To take my toddler with me to get my nails done?

bumblebee39 · 21/12/2018 21:33

I desperately want to get my nails done for Xmas because I'm blooming miserable and feeling not xmassy at all and sometimes getting my nails done helps...

Thing is I don't have a moment away from my toddler. Can I take him with me? Hopefully whilst he naps but maybe while he eats.

AIBU to take my toddler to a nail bar?
Thanks

Is it a big nail bar with all the nail dust and chemicals from doing acrylics? If it is then I doubt they would allow it. If it’s somewhere small and you’ll be the only one there having a nice safe file and polish and he won’t be running all over the place then fine.

So basically I’d say it depends. But YANBU at all to want pretty Christmas nails. I LOVE Christmas nails.

19lottie82 · 21/12/2018 21:35

No. You can’t take your toddler to a nail bar. Sorry.

HeartShapedBox · 21/12/2018 21:35

I wouldn't, the fumes won't do him any good.

user1493413286 · 21/12/2018 21:36

Realistically will he settle? I’ve done that before my DD was walking and was genuinely going to sleep or be ok just in her pram. I wouldn’t now but that’s because my DD won’t stay still/stay in her pram for 5 minutes.
Could you find someone who would come to your home?

Cherries101 · 21/12/2018 21:37

No.

MoistCantaloupe · 21/12/2018 21:37

You can get mobile nail techs?

Oblomov18 · 21/12/2018 21:38

No.

Aquamarine1029 · 21/12/2018 21:38

Please don't do this. Most women go to the salon for some precious "me time" and your toddler would ruin it. I think it would be very rude.

Orchidflower1 · 21/12/2018 21:39

Nope sorry

JeNeBaguetteRien · 21/12/2018 21:39

YWBU to take your toddler.
Quite apart from the fumes they are very busy this time of year, staff barely get a break between clients and it will probably take longer to do your nails and put them back.
It's not the place for a toddler but hope you can find someone to look after them for a while.

Noqont · 21/12/2018 21:40

Yep I'd bung him the tablet and some food and get it done. Absolutely.

Etino · 21/12/2018 21:40

Where do y’all go?! Most women in my local nail bars have children in them!

CarolineForbes · 21/12/2018 21:40

I doubt they’d allow it and I have to say I’d be pretty annoyed if someone bought a toddler to a salon while I was treating myself!

BringBiscuits · 21/12/2018 21:41

I wouldn’t. You will be on edge the whole time and the salon won’t be impressed. Can you get a mobile beautician to come to you? Or do your own at home?

carly2803 · 21/12/2018 21:41

i wouldnt. at the risk of sounding like a dick - i go to hair/nail salons for a pamper and im skint so its a rare treat

if i had to put up with a screaming baby/toddler mooching about i wouldnt be impressed.

also the fumes....but mostly being selfish - it aint cheap!

Cherries101 · 21/12/2018 21:42

If it’s a salon, the last thing you want is him running around opening the doors to bikini waxes and the like. In my salon they don’t allow kids for that very reason.

Dextrodependant · 21/12/2018 21:43

The salon I go to is a family salon and or an has children in, including this of the people who work there. I take DS all the time bit he is 6 and can sit quietly with YouTube on the promise he can get his nails painted if he is good.

You know your toddler and the salon better than us.

Daria32 · 21/12/2018 21:44

I would- and have! It’s a big salon, so fumes aren’t a problem, there’s a sofa and a tv and he watched his tablet, ate snacks and chatted away to me, perfectly happy. I asked to be sat down the back end by the sofa, so he could sit there but they didn’t bat an eyelid! I did ask first when I booked appt and they said no problem at all

HopeGarden · 21/12/2018 21:45

Would he realistically stay still long enough for you to get your nails done?

My toddler has a pretty short attention span and would probably be trying to explore the nail bar in no time, unless someone was sat with him to keep him amused.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 21/12/2018 21:46

I would hate to encounter a noisy toddler in a nail bar. And I'm generally tolerant.

Is there really no one who can watch them for 30 minutes?

mammmamia · 21/12/2018 21:48

I wouldn’t just because of the fumes. Why expose them to that if you don’t have to? Get a mobile technician to come when he’s in bed if possible.

bumblebee39 · 21/12/2018 21:49

Salon (never more than one client In there) is an option

I have taken DD to get her nails done at about age 3.5. File and polish. Nobody said anything. My kids are very good in those situations though...

Can't have anyone out to me & really nobody to watch him. Otherwise I would do that. Might have to do them myself and hopefully have them done for a New Years treat instead

THIS brings back memories of when my DC were younger and I would escape to the salon on a Saturday for some me time. Lovely friendly local place, great coffee and chat, except for 1 woman who always brought her DC in every time I was there. She thought he wasn’t wonderful and entertaining as he misbehaved spread food around the place and generally disrupted everything. You could feel and hear the sense of relief when they left. The staff were reluctant to say anything as she was a regular who spent loads (think footballers wife style maintenance) so in the end I changed salon and I wasn’t the only one.

UhYeahISureHopeItDoes · 21/12/2018 22:07

I took my DS to the nail bar when he was a week old. Stupidly got rid of my long acrylic nails on the advice of a midwife who thought I'd scratch my own child to death and wouldn't be able to care for him properly but I was lost without them so had them put back on. He whined once and one of the staff was very happy to put him dummy in (I would have done it myself - she was very eager to offer so she could have a quick look)

He is now 2yo and he has come with me every 3 months of his life to have my nails soaked off and re done. The people who don't agree with it are the people who let their kids run riot in public places and don't believe any child can sit still, do as they're told and generally be good.

He also sits happily in the living room when my neighbour comes over every few weeks to do my refills.
