To take my toddler with me to get my nails done?

bumblebee39 · 21/12/2018 21:33

I desperately want to get my nails done for Xmas because I'm blooming miserable and feeling not xmassy at all and sometimes getting my nails done helps...

Thing is I don't have a moment away from my toddler. Can I take him with me? Hopefully whilst he naps but maybe while he eats.

AIBU to take my toddler to a nail bar?
Thanks

I've taken my 3 year old with me while I had my nails done but it was in a quite salon with no other clients in at the time and no smelly chemicals.

My good friend who works in a salon has mums bring their babies/toddlers in all the time. She says all of the therapists love looking after them while the mum has her treatment.

So I don't think YABU, you just need to find the right salon.

TinyTickler · 21/12/2018 22:34

I took a toddler to the hairdresser with me once. It was fucking awful.

mammmamia · 22/12/2018 05:27

Are you a single parent ? Why can’t your partner watch him?

knittedjest · 22/12/2018 05:44

If I walked into a nail bar and there was a toddler in there I would walk straight back out again. No thank you, I would take my money where I can enjoy what I'm paying for.

bridgetosomewhere · 22/12/2018 05:58

One client at a time salon absolutely!
I've taken my two dc before and they say watching a tablet.
The girl was lovely and chatted to them

Busy salon with others and all the fumes?. No.

Monty27 · 22/12/2018 06:01

Absolutely not OP yabvu.
That's the last thing anyone needs in a nailbar. Think about it.
It's not all about you.
Hmm

Shitonthebloodything · 22/12/2018 06:03

No. It's not fair on other clients, the nail techs or him.
Make a mobile appointment and have them done at home.

Dimsumlosesum · 22/12/2018 06:21

Why is it some parents just can't accept that for some things after having kids you just have to wait until the kid is older and there are some of the stuff you used to do that you have to give up for a while?

No you can't take a toddler to a nail bar.

Dimsumlosesum · 22/12/2018 06:24

The people who don't agree with it are the people who let their kids run riot in public places and don't believe any child can sit still, do as they're told and generally be good

HA! No, love, some of us have kids who are kids no matter what we do that are bored to death with being forced to sit in an adult environment for however long it takes to get nails done. Not every kid is placid.

thefuriousfuggler · 22/12/2018 07:49

I had my nails done this week - at a nail bar in a very big shopping mall. The lady next to me had a 3 year old with her. He sat there and watched something on the ipad and then they went off to get an ice cream as a treat.

Biologifemini · 22/12/2018 07:53

Acetone and the dust is extremely bad for the people who work in nail salons. So it is certainly not something you should expose your child to. And the other people are unlikely to want a kid about either.
Can you just paint them yourself?

knittedjest · 22/12/2018 08:01

Yeah, no. It's got nothing to do with my childrens behavior. Has to do with the fact that I don't know you or your loin droppings. And have no interest in doing so. Have no idea if they are brats or angels but there is no guarantee. Either way I have to pay for the experience whether they ruin the it for me or not. So would rather spend my money where that is not a risk.

SPR1107 · 22/12/2018 08:05

People often take toddlers where I do. I would if I was desperate at other times of the year, but at Christmas they are heaving, so your wait could be well over an hour on top of the time it would take to have them done.
I know our local nail place yesterday were so busy they couldn't fit everyone in the shop and were having to give tickets out, so people could leave and come back

Escolar · 22/12/2018 08:05

Can you get someone to come to your home to do your nails? If not then personally I would take him.

Playdonut · 22/12/2018 08:06

Everyone takes their kids with them to the nail bar and hairdressers round here. The more expensive ones do have signs on the door saying no kids though 🤣

Fruitbatdancer · 22/12/2018 08:10

I think it depends on the nail bar so don’t The the mumsnet massif put you off! Depends what it’s like? Mine is in high steeet, opposite McDonald’s, always completely rammed, noisy etc no one is getting quiet me time! - often a child or two in there ( often the owners child too) often a child with. Happy meal.
Will he sit in a pushchair/ be strapped in? Watch something on a phone? I think it depends if they’ll sit nice or cause havoc!

Bluebonnieblue · 22/12/2018 08:11

I would if I had nobody to look after him. I dont see why someone else bringing their toddler would ruin a stranger's "me" time either - I always think people who say stuff like this are so funny. Are there really people out there who are upset or offended by the very sight and sound of toddlers/small children? Living abroad at the moment and I've not been a parent in the UK yet but where I live, a cute child coming in to literally anywhere will cheer everyone up! In the opinions of the locals, any place WITH a baby is better than any place WITHOUT a baby!

Bungleinthejungle · 22/12/2018 08:14

I went to a nail bar once where a woman brought her young child along. Of course they didn't bug her but everyone else. I was really hacked off as it was 'me time' away from my own children. I've never been back there.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 22/12/2018 08:19

The nail bars round here look like the seventh circle of hell to me. I walked past one last night and there was a woman right next to the window having the hard skin shaved off her feet, by a woman in a face mask wearing blue plastic gloves, while she stared gormlessly at her phone. I thought it looked a miserable little snapshot of modern life tbh. Good luck to you if you think having your nails done as a treat!

bumblebee39 · 22/12/2018 08:26

Choice of a few but think the very quiet beauticians might be better than a noisy nail bar plus less fumes etc. Hoping to go while he's asleep but he is very easy going so easily bribed to be good 😂🙈

I haven't done it myself but lots of women take their kids with them. I would
Prob try and find someone that's mobile and would Come to the house I can imagine that would be a lot easier to keep toddler entertained.

LotsToThinkOf · 22/12/2018 08:32

I always take my toddler with me, I've checked with the salon and it's fine...

Clearly I've been poisoning him with all the fumes and nail dust though.

Spotsandstars · 22/12/2018 08:41

You are being very selfish. Nails are not a necessity, as many people have said going for many women is a precious time without children around, I would be v annoyed (as someone who rarely has time without her toddler and loves getting her nails done) to have a child there. Paint them yourself then arrange a new year treat instead.

TheGlitterFairy · 22/12/2018 08:42

Lots of women bring their children to the nail bar I go to - it’s fine. No one minds!

Youmadorwhat · 22/12/2018 08:45

A friend of mine takes her Dd sometimes she just sits with the iPad and done crisps and is fine.
