To use this baby name

I know this has been done to death and no one can really decide but me but I’m so torn.

Baby no 1. I’ve liked a name since I was little. Always said that’s the name we’d use if we have a DD since I met my DH 14 years ago. Whilst pregnant a close family friend has called her DD a name which is sometimes used as a nickname for the name we’ve picked. Literally one letter difference. Think sue and susie or Nicola and Nicole.

We have no other names picked out, If it was one of our boy names that I’ve not been as set on or liked for as long id change it. But this one has been in my heart for so many years!

The friend knows the name has always been my fave and there’s a risk we’d use it - before her baby was born and I knew what they’d picked.

So can I still use it?! We see this family 5/6 times a year (my parents see her parents more often) but are in regular contact on social media/texts. Day guests to our wedding. Live fairly local and some of my friends know her - only to have on social media. Will it be riddiculous having two little girls running around family bbqs and the like called such similar names? And will I offend anyone?!

use the name you like
the end

chaoscategorised · 21/12/2018 16:54

Another one who hates these threads! If the names are Rose and Rosie, you're being ridiculous. If it's Nebuchadnezzar and Nebuchadnezzelle then you're not. If you don't say the name then you're not going to get a legitimate answer!

Tistheseason17 · 21/12/2018 16:55

I'd use it. You like it - use it!
One of my neighbour's children has the same name as mine and they are best friends. I think it is quite adorable and we clearly both have great taste.

jessstan2 · 21/12/2018 16:59

Of course you can use it, for goodness sake. We have three Davids, two Eleanors, two Jennifers (Jenny) and, amongst the old ones, two Winifreds and two Ivy's in our family. So what? We're not together all the time.

In any case your friend has not given her child exactly the same name as you have chosen.

PS: I love the name Rose.

MrsFezziwig · 21/12/2018 16:59

Nebuchadnezzelle would be a better alternative to just about any other name, OP, so why don’t you use that!

Seriously, if you only see them once every two months what on earth is the problem?!

Onestep2 · 21/12/2018 17:03

Arrghhhh what's the nammmee?

Eve and Evie?
Emma and Emily?
Rose and Rosie?
Jill and Jillian?
Vic and Victoria?
Lizzy and Elizabeth?
Izzy and Isabella?
Ella and Ellie?
Gabby and Gabriella?
Anna and anabella?
Kate and Kathryn?

WE NEED TO KNOW

cuppycakey · 21/12/2018 17:14

Just use it.

peachgreen · 21/12/2018 17:17

Evie and Edie, that's my guess.

Elllicam · 21/12/2018 17:22

Anna and Annie?

Crunchymum · 21/12/2018 18:45

I reckon baby 1 is Edith and OP loves Edie.

Crunchymum · 21/12/2018 18:47

Sorry other way around.

Baby is Edie and OP loves Edith.

Not sure why I'm finding this so confusing Grin

RobinHumphries · 21/12/2018 18:55

Angel and Angela

Dahlietta · 21/12/2018 19:13

Oo, that's an interesting shout, Robin. I like that!

ThatEscalatedQuickly · 21/12/2018 19:17

Ava and Eva?

recklessruby · 21/12/2018 19:19

I named my dd Emma in 1994 when I was 26. I loved the name since I was 14.
There are HEAPS of Emmas in their 20s now but I would have still used it even if my best friend had used it as I love it so much.
Just go with your choice.
Since I had my Emma I have become friends with an Emily, Ellie and Ebony. There are just so many E names I get them mixed up sometimes.
My own name was chosen to be unusual in the late 60s and nobody in my school had it.
It's old fashioned but really popular now with little girls. The old names are coming back.

Firstty · 21/12/2018 19:22

It's fine. Especially if she already knew you like it

Santaisonthesherry · 21/12/2018 19:24

I had a Jake, bff had a Jack, never an issue.

Clionba · 21/12/2018 19:49

No, but Jake and Jack are so common there are bound to be dozens around.
OP doesn't say if it's a very common name like Jack or something more unusual.

Santaisonthesherry · 21/12/2018 19:54

My Jake was always always the only one at his schools!
Nobody owns a name. Use the name op.!

Clionba · 21/12/2018 19:57

I agree. If you like it, use it.

CrashBandicoots · 21/12/2018 20:09

Anna, Annie?

WhatsUpHun · 21/12/2018 20:20

If I say the name and she’s on here it’s pretty outing and I could upset her anyway!!!

really?

Hezz · 21/12/2018 20:37

Olive and Olivia

Rainycloudyday · 21/12/2018 20:39

My guess is Sophie/Sophia

MsJudgemental · 21/12/2018 20:45

Use the name. DH’s father was one of 12+ and two of the girls had the exact same name, think Big Mary and Little Mary (although the Big one was larger rather than the elder)!
