To hate nest doors cat

I can't leave my bathroom window open without it bloody coming in!!!!!

I am tired of finding dirty paw prints in my bath or paw prints on the window from where it's climbed in and out again while I've been out of the room

Makes me cringe cause I have to buy new toothbrushes often as where the cat seems to climb in is right by our toothbrushes.

Surely I can't expect ndn to control their cat (I know that's unreasonable) and I'm not closing my window as I'm avoiding the damp after a hot shower or bath!

I know there's not much I can do- probably just wanted a little bitch and moan Grin

Put a screen in the window.

peakSafeSpace · 20/12/2018 03:32

Why should the OP spend money changing her property?

Shut the cat in the bathroom and give it a shower. Scare the fuck out of it. It'll learn.

steff13 · 20/12/2018 03:35

She shouldn't have to, but I doubt locking it in the bathroom would scare it permanently. It will come back eventually. As long as people insist on letting they're cats roam, this is what you get. 🤷. Besides, what about bugs? Don't they get in thought the open window? We'd have wasps and flies and all sorts coming in through the windows if we didn't have screens.

Shriek · 20/12/2018 03:38

Motion detector water squirter! Or get a dog!

Shriek · 20/12/2018 03:39

You seriously don't leave your gf window open in this weather though do you, and in the dark? Be more worried about intruders climbing in!

erykahb · 20/12/2018 03:42

Have had a look online for a screen, will look into getting one more.

Peaksafespace that might be next on my list, I've just brushed my teeth and feel like I have a mouth full of fucking fur

We only leave it open to let the steam escape and then close it, bathroom door is always closed too but that hasn't stopped the cat coming in through the patio doors in the summer AND FINDING IT IN MY BLOODY KITCHEN. Angry

I hate them. I'm not a pet person, but can't understand how having a cat is enjoyable. They're just pests who shit in everyone's gardens

"I doubt locking it in the bathroom would scare it permanently. "

The method worked for me. Banging, shouting, a shower, more shouting, more banging etc.

Shriek · 20/12/2018 04:16

If you only open it to let steam out how on earth, or mores to the point why, would it jumpnin whilst you are there?

Just scream at it or squirt water. It will scare it off.

Shriek · 20/12/2018 04:18

Please don't lock it in and scream and bang and shout and bang and shout, you could give it a heart attack!
Which, whilst possibly making you happy, would be extremely cruel, and possibly devastate your neighbour.

crispsmonster · 20/12/2018 04:33

I used to have this problem but I read that putting a mirror by the open window would scare it away. I tried it and I think it did work! Not sure if the mirror just blocked its way or something though.

toomuchtooold · 20/12/2018 05:44

You seriously don't leave your gf window open

How do you know it's the gf? Our neighbour's cat used to come in the little vent window of our bathroom, on the first floor and the little window was about a metre above the ledge. I watched him doing it once, it was like Mission Impossible.

PurpleFlower1983 · 20/12/2018 05:51

Does the window have to be wide open?

IAmMumWho · 20/12/2018 06:57

I hate my own cat going in my kitchen my bathroom. It's disgusting. I close all doors DH and Kids leave them open. Fur everywhere worktops, I have to disinfect all my work surfaces before I prep food.

Only thing I can say is get a window latch it'll allow you to open it so far and the cat shouldn't get in x

Good luck @erykahb

erykahb · 20/12/2018 07:29

I'm obviously not being clear. I haven't caught the cat in my bathroom yet. I've found it's foot prints- the window is open for 10 minutes or so after a bath to let it air... I am not in the room. Or after dh has had a shit.

It probably hears me coming and legs it. I have a casement window but only leave the small window at the top open a little and shit you not I come back and it's wide open

I'm not going to fucking kill a cat, Jesus, I just don't want it coming in. I have small kids and am due to have another in 4w so the thought of that cat being in my house and around my babies makes me sick, only because it's not my bloody pet!!!!!!

You hate animals?

LittleAlbatross · 20/12/2018 07:36

I've got one of those sonic things that makes a noise when it detects movement, seems to be keeping nextdoors shitting furball from destroying my vegetable patch at the moment.

gladheart · 20/12/2018 07:45

Could you start with a motion sensor air freshener thing and point it out of the window? Cats hate that sort of thing.

Sparklingbrook · 20/12/2018 07:56

Firstly I would move the toothbrushes away from the window.

It seems a bit odd that the cat would want to go in your bathroom. I wonder what it wants?

Holidayshopping · 20/12/2018 07:59

Get a window lock so you can open it just one inch enough to let the steam out.

XmasPostmanBos · 20/12/2018 08:04

Get some cat proof screens for doors and window and they will also keep flies out in summer.

EvaHarknessRose · 20/12/2018 08:10

I completely understand OP, I liked next doors cat until one of them became a nuisance messing in the garden. Neighbour told me to ‘just point the hose at her’, but honestly, does he think I am waiting in the garden all day?

erykahb · 20/12/2018 09:00

I'm assuming it's coming in as it's warm in there since we've just bathed, and it's so cold outside? I'm not sure.

Santaispackinghissleigh · 20/12/2018 09:12

My dcat's fav place for a big poo is in the bath!!
I doubt there is only 1 dcat in your neighbourhood so beware of blaming ndn's. Get a couple of stick on air fresheners and stick them on your window sill. Dcats hate them ime!!

erykahb · 20/12/2018 09:27

It's definitely NDN, as I've said this cat in particular likes to stroll in through any open door downstairs and have a little explore of the house and I've caught it by the bathroom window before! In the summer when I've been bathing with the window ajar a little he's been sniffing round the window.

I know it means no harm, I can deal with the cat shit and it leaving rubbish in my garden (it's weird) but just not infecting my toothbrushes !
