To think closing the door back on an advert calendar is madness

I was discussing this in work today as one of my colleagues mentioned that she opens her advent calendar, removes the chocolate and then re-closes the door.
I said it makes no sense as you don’t know what you have already done. I then admitted I actually rip off the door which was met with a torrent of abuse by four other colleagues, who all return the door to its closed status. One of the reasons being that the picture on the front is messed up. I have to admit I don’t look at the picture as blinded by the excitement of the chocolate inside that awaits me.

Am I adventing all wrong!?

The world has truly gone mad! Of course you leave the doors open and certainly don't rip them off!

Having said that, I haven't had an advent calendar for many years and am of the 'pictures behind the doors' generation. Am very glad to report that the one DP gave me this year has chocolate but also pictures behind the choc and the traditional Christmas story printed on the back of the doors Smile

Closed here but admittedly mine is because of my OCD (yes, diagnosed). I closed everyone else's when they're left open too. Ripping of is total madness!

But what do you mean you can't tell what you've done? The whole point of an advent calendar is you eat one a day. The doors/windows are numbered so that really shouldn't be the reason. It could be a good visual to see what's left the closer you get to Christmas but it looks messy and disorganized IMO.

Always close the door

Junkmail · 20/12/2018 14:12

You’re supposed to rip them off? They are perforated. You’re supposed to enjoy all the pictures inside (do they still do that? I haven’t had an advent calendar in years) and know at a glance how many days until Christmas? This closing the door thing is pure madness.

I rip the door off, hate a flappy door!

Dc have lovely wooden calendars. Pretty and I find lovely things to fill them with. But it's not a proper count down.

The dog has one. The doors are left open. The more fucked up the picture the closer Christmas is.

MargoLovebutter · 20/12/2018 14:35

OMG!!!!! You can't leave the doors open....... shudders. You have to open each door really carefully, so that they can be sealed neatly closed again, so the lovely picture isn't spoilt and it doesn't mess with my ocd about such things !

SassitudeandSparkle · 20/12/2018 14:43

Who knew this would be such a contentious issue?!

Doors open (on reuseable calendars) or ripped off her (prosecco/choc/beer/lego type).

namechange1984 · 20/12/2018 21:28

I close them up but thinking about it they do have perforated edges, I assume to rip off Shock

DrCoconut · 20/12/2018 22:48

So glad others remember picture advent calendars and closing the doors to reuse next year!

ILoveChristmasLights · 20/12/2018 22:59

I leave them slightly ajar, then from one side I can see the picture on the front and from the other side I can see the little pictures inside. Win/win.

I had a nativity scene when I was little (when you just had a picture) I was very gentle with it and loved getting it out each Christmas. I had it for years, sadly I’ve no idea what happened to it.

BumDisease · 20/12/2018 23:02

Doors stay open you animals.

AGHHHH · 21/12/2018 00:02

Why would you close the doors on a calendar which is meant to be counting down?

melj1213 · 21/12/2018 00:28

I just leave the doors ajar - close up you can see which ones are open and which ones are still to go but from a distance you still see the picture as I'd rather see that than a load of white squares and plastic tray when the choc is gone

Were you born in a barn? Close the door*

No, a hospital with swing doors. 😆

TheOxymoron · 21/12/2018 09:03

Another one for doors open.
