To think closing the door back on an advert calendar is madness

I was discussing this in work today as one of my colleagues mentioned that she opens her advent calendar, removes the chocolate and then re-closes the door.
I said it makes no sense as you don’t know what you have already done. I then admitted I actually rip off the door which was met with a torrent of abuse by four other colleagues, who all return the door to its closed status. One of the reasons being that the picture on the front is messed up. I have to admit I don’t look at the picture as blinded by the excitement of the chocolate inside that awaits me.

Am I adventing all wrong!?

Were you born in an advent barn?!

LollySox · 19/12/2018 17:22

Rip 'em off! Xmas Grin

LittleScottieDog · 19/12/2018 17:22

I leave them open. I wouldn't rip them off! But I wouldn't close them either though, because the excitement (apart from the chocolate) is seeing all the doors gradually open and count down towards Christmas. If you close them, you can't see the countdown!

TeenTimesTwo · 19/12/2018 17:23

Errol Yes - the doors got closed when the advent calendar got put away with the decorations until next year.

Precisely!

SugarPlumLairy · 19/12/2018 17:32

I don’t open the doors at all. They stay pristine and closed because I remove the entire tray from behind the doors and eat them all on the same day. Is that not right way? 🤔🤣🎄

Close the door and complete the picture again. I have OCD and Asperger’s syndrome so the incomplete and broken calendars set me on edge.

purplecorkheart · 19/12/2018 17:38

Close the door/drawer for me. I accidentally torn part if a door last year and it really annoyed me.

Ghanagirl · 19/12/2018 17:41

Leave them open never tear doors off though

SarahSissions · 19/12/2018 17:42

You have to close it if it is a chocolate one with an ugly plastic tray, if it is a traditional picture one with windows then of course you leave them open to count down

TulipsInbloom1 · 19/12/2018 17:44

I rip them off. Its neater.

Frosty66611 · 19/12/2018 17:45

You are meant to leave them open to count down the days until Xmas. At least that’s what I’ve always been brought up to do

HildaZelda · 19/12/2018 17:46

I don't rip it off, but I leave it open. Surely that's the point? That the open door indicates how many days?

Andylion · 19/12/2018 17:49

We have one in the office and I was ripping off one of the doors when all hell broke loose from my colleagues, saying you had to open it neatly and nicely and then close it again - apparently I am an animal!

You have one in the office? Is it shared?

RavenLG · 19/12/2018 18:08

Claudia but baby Jesus was so out of respect for him at Christmas....

I’m letting you off just for that comment

Asthenia · 19/12/2018 18:29

Always leave the door open, to see how many days are left! Why would you close them again?!

Tighnabruaich · 20/12/2018 10:12

Andylion yes, we take it in turns each morning to open/rip off a door.

FreezerBird · 20/12/2018 10:18

The only time it's acceptable to tear the door off is on a Lego calendar, where you might need the picture (on the back of the door) to help you make the toy, and you need to take it somewhere else to do so.

Otherwise, no.

Oysterbabe · 20/12/2018 10:25

You guys aren't going to like this.

To think closing the door back on an advert calendar is madness
LittleSF · 20/12/2018 10:36

Door stays open of course - back in days of yore when I was a kid there was no chocolate in them, just a picture of something like a candle or Santa or a tree. Oh the excitement to see what the picture was each morning... so closing the door would be madness as you want to have all the lovely pictures showing.

RandomObject · 20/12/2018 10:51

I bet door closers iron their socks as well

causeimunderyourmistletoe · 20/12/2018 10:56

No! Leave the door open and marvel at the ever growing number of flaps as you get closer to the big day!

madnstressed · 20/12/2018 10:57

I rip mine off Grin in my defence the picture of the back of the door always makes up a jigsaw so closing them back over means you don't get to to the jigsaw Confused

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 20/12/2018 11:00

ItsJustASimpleLine ....the tragedy in those few words!!

When I was small I had to share a calendar with my brother, we had to take turns to open the Advent Calendar and he NEVER worked out that by insisting on going first he NEVER got to open the big 24door window

and it was a picture one, we had to fold the flaps back and it was recycled the next year.
I must ask him if he ever realised. :o

CookPassBabtridge · 20/12/2018 11:14

I've never heard of people closing them or ripping off before! I just leave them open as does everyone elses I've seen.
