Expecting Amazon to sort this?

Gorja · 18/12/2018 19:14

I apparently had a rather large and valuable Christmas gift delivered by Amazon today.
Delivery tracking says it was delivered to neighbour - garage door and signed by - garage door!
I live on a main road and when I got home there was no parcel. I’ve checked with neighbours and nobody has it.
I have emailed Amazon who are telling me I have to wait 48 hours before they will do anything in case a mistake has been made.

This is a Christmas present for my son that I need in time for Christmas.

I just want them to redeliver it so I have it for Tuesday.

I have had this twice, once it was £400 curtains, the delivery driver said I signed though it was nothing like my signature. I lost that case, pay pal took their word for it.
Just a few months ago the same thing, signed by neighbour, neighbour who is a friend of 20 years said she did not sign for it. Amazon refused my refund.
Im sorry OP

ViragoKnows · 18/12/2018 19:32

Well obviously a garage door can’t sign for a parcel, so the lie is indisputable. Be very assertive.

turnipsaretheonlyveg · 18/12/2018 19:35

We have a lot of amazon parcels, recently we had a delivered but not there parcel. Amazon customer care said that often delivery drivers sign all of the parcels as delivered at the start of their shifts to get a time bonus so they don't turn up until later.

We have always managed to get refunds if needed.

Gorja · 18/12/2018 19:39

I’m just so cross that they would leave an expensive and large item in plain view of the road and then admit that they have by saying the garage door has signed for it!

I need it for Christmas.

This happened to me last month, Amazon said it was left in my secure place and it wasn't there when I checked. After the 48 hours they agreed to resend, although I asked them to send to an alternative delivery address. They also gave me £5 gift voucher for the inconvenience. I spoke to them on the phone initially (filled a form online and they called me back) then emailed after the 48 hours. You've got a good argument as the garage door obviously didn't sign for it so be firm if you speak to them.

yunalis · 18/12/2018 19:41

I'd go on live chat and ask them again. They always go above and beyond for me and other people I know.

malmi · 18/12/2018 19:45

Have you spoken to the garage door to see if they know anything about it though?

Gorja · 18/12/2018 19:47

Lol. The garage door is claiming innocence and I can confirm it has no tell tale ink smudges in it!

You're going to feel like a fool if you discover your neighbour is a Mr G. Door

Knittink · 18/12/2018 19:51

I had exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Amazon order, supposedly delivered 'securely to my shed' by Hermes (at a time when I was in the house Hmm). I don't have a bloody shed! Amazon agreed to replace all £140 worth of items, to my amazement. Next day a random neighbour I didn't even recognise turned up with the original parcel!

MummyPig89 · 18/12/2018 19:59

Go on live chat. Last week the driver apparently left my parcel outside my front door but it wasn’t there. They asked if I minded waiting a few days to see if it turned up, I said yes I do mind as the driver had posted a card to say it was at the front door and I pay for Amazon Prime to get free next day delivery. He said that makes sense and gave me a full refund immediately!

GobblersKnob · 18/12/2018 20:03

Don't panic, if they have to replace, they'll do it on a priority delivery, they'll be plenty of time.

On the other hand I've had several similar weird cryptic deliveries from Amazon (I use Amazon far too much) and often they just turn up the next day.

tabulahrasa · 18/12/2018 20:05

probably a stupid question... but have you tried inside the garage?

Gorja · 18/12/2018 20:12

Nobody can get inside of the garage it’s an electric door. I have been in the garage and it’s not there.

Today I had a parcel signed by 'back door' - I laughed quite a lot when I received that notification! Said parcel was on the doorstep with the door mat placed precariously (and rather amusingly) on top of it. I agree to having a search around the vicinity of the garage for it - I often have parcels left in the bin, under the hood of the bbq and in a bush that is next to my front door.

FinallyFree123456789 · 18/12/2018 20:24

@Gorja
This happened to me today.

I went online and got them to call me back - they have me the option of a refund or a priority 1 day delivery. Think their customer service phone call back is shut now but do it tomorrow op :-)

PylonsPylonsPylons · 18/12/2018 20:30

Me and dh both got notifications that amazon orders had been delivered through our letter box at 18:14 - we were both in the living room waiting for friends to arrive and had been watching the drive for 10 minutes. We both used online chat, were asked to wait 2 days, we both insisted on the courier being contacted or an immediate refund. We both had refunds.

UhUhUhDennis · 18/12/2018 20:32

Wow £400 curtains?! I don't get why people risk expensive stuff being delivered when you're not there. Get expensive stuff delivered when you know you'll be in or to work or a neighbour or family member etc. Be sensible people.

cardibach · 18/12/2018 20:38

UhUh you can’t always pick a time! I expect a company to have sensible delivery policies.

TheRedFox · 18/12/2018 20:38

I usually find Amazon very reasonable as long as you explain exactly what the issue is.

The driver said he's delivered to the garage. You say he can't have done as it is electric so he couldn't have opened it to deliver it. You can therefore show that the item COULD NOT have been delivered to where he says he delivered it.

I think you're on pretty firm ground and Amazon will refund / send you another.

Good luck.

UhUhUhDennis · 18/12/2018 21:18

You don't need to pick a time though? if something is worth that much money that you couldn't afford to lose you would have it delivered somewhere guarenteed to be delivered safely like I always get stuff delivered to work for that reason. Or I get it sent to my parents who are generally at home but even if they're not they live in a warden controlled estate very safe so it could be left in their porch safely. Or have it delivered for a day you're at home then stay in til it comes. Its just logic - I know I'm out Mon to Friday 8am til 6pm so I don't have stuff delivered there as it's 99% certain things will get delivered between 8-6. Logic.

grandmistressflashette · 18/12/2018 21:32

I've hit brick walls on the couple of occasions I've emailed Amazon about missing deliveries - both in the last year, having been a regular customer for about 12 years. Perhaps I got lucky, but on both occasions as soon as I phoned them (not that it was easy to find the contact details, mind!) the person I spoke to immediately arranged replacements to be sent the next day, with no real questions asked, which seemed a bit open to abuse if anything.

Once I had the same issue as you - a parcel simply not being where it was supposed to be at all, and the other time I received a completely empty cardboard package.

I was in! I dont work, they were Kylie Minogue curtains 3 pairs paid with pay pal. They took the drivers word for it. We have electric gates so I asked them to prove how he managed to get on to my property for me to sign for it but they still believed him.
I dont buy on-line any more.

birdladyfromhomealone · 18/12/2018 21:54

I miss read the OP sorry, I bought my curtains fro a curtain shop via Ebay on pay pal.
I wish I had bought them off Amazon but they were dearer on there :(

RebelWitchFace · 18/12/2018 21:59

@birdladyfromhomealone was your case with ebay or paypal only? I found ebay to be conveniently (but worryingly in a way) in favour of the buyer.
