Expecting Amazon to sort this?

I apparently had a rather large and valuable Christmas gift delivered by Amazon today.
Delivery tracking says it was delivered to neighbour - garage door and signed by - garage door!
I live on a main road and when I got home there was no parcel. I’ve checked with neighbours and nobody has it.
I have emailed Amazon who are telling me I have to wait 48 hours before they will do anything in case a mistake has been made.

This is a Christmas present for my son that I need in time for Christmas.

I just want them to redeliver it so I have it for Tuesday.

Ah in that case YANBU birdlady didn't realise you were in etc. You definitely should have fought that harder though but I guess if you have electric gates and stuff maybe you can afford to begrudgingly lose £400. I would have gone to small claims court as I couldn't afford to lose £400.

birdladyfromhomealone · 18/12/2018 22:07

I posted about it on MN at the time.
Good luck OP sounds like Amazon are better than paypal.
Please update.

birdladyfromhomealone · 18/12/2018 22:09

uHuH
You cant argue once paypal makes a decision it is final even if its a wrong decision.

TubbsAndEdward · 18/12/2018 22:11

I tracked my parcel this weekend and online it said "handed to resident".
I was in all day and no one handed me anything !
I called amazon and they were able to work out from the coordinates where the parcel was scanned that it wasn't my house it was handed to someone at.
They refunded me but the items had gone up in price so they gave me £10 promotion credit and free delivery.

peachgreen · 18/12/2018 22:15

@UhUhUhDennis Not everyone has local family who don't work or a workplace that allows personal deliveries. And you can't always (or even usually) specify a delivery day.

OkOkWhatsNext · 18/12/2018 22:20

Yes ask them again. I have always found them very helpful. I ordered a Nintendo Switch on Black Friday which didn’t arrive, it had apparently been handed to the delivery company but just never turned up. As soon as I spoke to Amazon they agreed to send a new one, no questions. And when it was out of stock, they promised to phone every day to check if it had turned up, until
It was back in stock when they immediately resent it.

UhUhUhDennis · 18/12/2018 22:22

@Peachtree click and collect? Secure box collection? Loads of options really or everyone knows at least 1 person at home a lot/a friend willing to take a delivery. Otherwise for expensive stuff I think I'd just go to a shop and buy it/click and collect in a shop.

OnceUponATime000 · 18/12/2018 22:22

I've had this a few times. I find that if it is something Amazon supply themselves you normally get a refund straight away or another sent. If it's on behalf of someone who sells through Amazon then they ask for the 48 hours.
I would phone again tomorrow and explain your predicament with needing it by Christmas and you may find they can find away around it. Also do check everywhere I've found parcels no where near where they said including neighbours garages when they said it was in my garage and in my locked garage ( I've never worked that one out). Good luck op

Amazon put a £45 parcel in my recycling bin recently and yes, you guessed it, it was emptied! Took a while to get a refund - Hermes insisting it was delivered to a 'safe place' (not one I'd specified)and provided a picture to boot! Now in dispute about another parcel that hasn't arrived. Will be using a locker in future. Only reliable company I find for deliveries is DPD.

Itsanewme · 18/12/2018 22:37

I have had a very good experience with Amazon this week . I ordered a camera for my dd for her birthday . It hadn’t arrived and I used live chat and someone rang me back. They gave me a refund as I had bought something else instead for her . Two days later the camera arrived.
I rang to tell them and they said I could keep the camera as I was so honest and apologised for my inconvenience.

Fruitbatdancer · 18/12/2018 22:44

This time last year Photobox delivered some stuf (mugs, cards, canvas etc) except it never arrived. I complained after two weeks late as it was Xmas presents, they gave me money off and resent, said definitely dispatched couldn’t understand it.
In May we opened the bbq for the first outdoor feast of the year - and voila you guessed it some muppet had gone round back, ignored porch, wood store, shed, bins etc and put it in bbq. And not left a note! It was very mouldy And very soggy!

I had a notification from Amazon to say I’d had a delivery. Was expecting a small box with a doll in it but the picture was of two enormous boxes I’d had delivered the week before. I queried it with Amazon live chat and said I definitely hadn’t had the doll delivered that day and they refunded me immediately.

Opened the enormous parcel a day or so later and it was the doll in masses of packaging. Blush

I sent a hamper to an elderly friend, it was signed for but she never received it. As she lives in sheltered housing I phoned the office to be told “yes we have someone of that name”. She went to talk to them but no it wasn’t them, they asked if it was Hermes as they have had lots of problems with them previously. To be fair Hermes are looking in to it.

seventhgonickname · 18/12/2018 23:34

With Amazon especially it is difficult to organise delivery times when prime next day delivery translates to any time this week to anyone Inthe street but will be left by your door if it is tipping it down but will not ring the doorbell to see if you are in.
Still better than last year when thing we're left on the pavement Infront of our houses, seemed to affect quite a few if us.Luckily a cul de sac with friendly neighbours.

stinkypoo · 19/12/2018 00:35

This happened with something I ordered for work - said it was delivered,we asked all of the local places , the address & person who apparently signed for it was completely imaginary- business address and city centre so not hard to find.
Opened a case with Amazon, to be fair they were great and we got another item delivered the next day - was a pain but it seems sometimes the delivery drivers aren't 100% honest.

Ontheboardwalk · 19/12/2018 01:24

I ordered several packages over a number of days to come today (Weds) as named day delivery through Prime. They’ve all been delivered Mon and Tues which is really annoying as I knew I wouldn’t be in these days. They’ve ignored the delivery instructions completely.

Luckily I’ve got nice neighbours who take in parcels but that’s not the point. I wanted them delivered on Weds

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 19/12/2018 10:52

I’ve only had it happen the once but delivery driver said he’d left a package in our greenhouse. We don’t have a greenhouse and it never did turn up. Mystified as to where it went.

birdladyfromhomealone · 19/12/2018 15:43

OMFG what coincidence, today my DH was waiting for xmas presents to arrive.
No delivery.
Electric gates were not buzzed nothing.
He went out to walk the dogs and guess what he found out in the rain, thrown over 6ft high electric gates?
MY xmas presents which are electrical.
Just waiting for a call back from logistics in Uxbridge after complaining to live chat.

Vanillaradio · 19/12/2018 15:58

Recently got a package from Amazon that said delivered securely to back porch. We don't have one. What they actually meant was chucked over back fence. Fortunately not broken due to huge amount of bubble wrap as it was made out of china......x

Gorja · 19/12/2018 17:52

Just spoke to Amazon Logostics and they are sending a replacement which should be here in time for Christmas. Hats off to their customer services even if their delivery drivers are hopeless.

OP posts:
XXcstatic · 19/12/2018 17:58

Gotta say that Amazon's customer service is superb, even though they are evil tax-dodging bastards who treat their staff like shit.

Dvg · 21/12/2018 01:14

I once had a coffee machine left in a black bag in my front garden by my bin for a week which I got a refund for as they said delivered to neighbour but I had no neighbours, didn't notice the extra black bag next to all the other black bin bags full of grass trimmings -_-

MilkyCuppa · 21/12/2018 01:37

Telephone. The people on live chat barely speak English and work from scripts. The telephone people are altogether more helpful and not only understand your complaint but actually deal with it. Insist that you don’t need to wait because it’s already obvious that the delivery driver lied, because it’s impossible for your garage door to sign!
