I've always been lucky but it sounds like that is not always the case.

@katseyes7 Shock that's gross!

Littlebluebird123 · 21/12/2018 11:23

The worst one I got was a mug which had a man on and when you put hot water in, he stripped. I was the youngest one in the office and am really straight laced and shy, which everyone knows, so I was not only embarrassed by opening it in front of everyone but was never going to use it. I'd have preferred generic chocolate. Lol

My DH has had a load of awful SS presents. Just no thought whatsoever. But the worst one was when he was at a school where loads of people were leaving en masse (ie 20 people, Fresh Start nightmare - thanks LA) so instead of leaving collections they did SS type leaving gifts.
Everyone knew everyone else and even if you didn't know that person particularly well, there would have been 5 or 6 people who worked closely with them to ask about them.
He got a best teacher mug and coaster set. (The ones which you get about 6 of a year from the kids! Plus, he doesn't drink hot drinks so never used mugs anyway.) That was pretty rubbish.

LordPickle · 21/12/2018 11:30

Not me but my DH got a harmonica for beginners kit and it was clearly used 🤢

Avrannakern · 21/12/2018 11:35

A generic skincare set. Person who bought it knew me well and knew I couldn't use a lot of products due to allergies so they knew I'd never be able to use it.

katseyes7 · 21/12/2018 11:40

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie lsn't it awful! l never looked at him the same way again.

XmasHolly · 21/12/2018 11:46

One year we did SS for up to £5 where we had a "wish list". On my list I had a cupcake shaped mug or other funky shaped mug from Poundland (office was right opposite Poundland) or chocolate.

I got a plain white used mug (from the cupboard at work) and the giver had scrawled "fucking precious cupcake" on it.

That really upset me! The next year I drew my name and kept schtum so I got a nice present. Grin

iamthewalrusgoogoogjoob · 21/12/2018 23:04

@XmasHolly wtf! Did you know who it was from?!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 22/12/2018 01:56

A child's novelty night light, a green plastic frog I think, I was 33, single with no children!

animallikeyou · 22/12/2018 14:11

I spent ages on mine.

I got an elf hat and an inflatable reindeer ringtoss.

LadySlytherin24 · 22/12/2018 17:25

29p Prosecco lip balm from home bargains 🤔

Kellymumto2 · 22/12/2018 17:27

This year I got an inflatable man with a photo of a particular celebrity as the face - should have been the worst gift ever, but I loved it!

Wholovesorangesoda · 22/12/2018 17:35

Worst one for me wasnt actually awful - it was lovely bottle of really good red wine, that the giver very proudly told me was one of their favourites. She was also a really good work friend...but an absolutely useless listener as I had loudly and semi-regularly mentioned to everyone I hate wine of all descriptions (in general conversations throughout the year). It just felt like she had bought a present I should have liked, rather than one I actually did.
I also once received some really cheap smellies, as in budget was a tenner and I had seen them in the shop for £2.50. I know that sometimes having yet another present to buy can stretch the budget, and if you don't do secret santa people often give you jip for it, but it was a bit crap to get something so cheap when I had spent the whole budget

showmewhatyougot · 22/12/2018 17:39

An unbranded can of Gin and tonic and a tiny Santa stuffed toy keyring.

A very expensive ugly bauble, Santa with sunburn, bathing on top of his car, with a flamingo?

Beautifulseren · 22/12/2018 17:40

A train timetable ! I travel to work by car as there is not a train station where I live or work ( think rural).

SewingJen · 22/12/2018 17:41

À tacky plastic stiletto with a bit of fluff on top; which I think is supposed to hold your mobile phone... but didn't fit my phone (even if I had wanted to use it) -it looked like a tiny hooker's lost footwear! Naf & really offensive as it came from my stepson's mother!!!!!

Saltylandcat · 22/12/2018 17:42

This wasn't mine but my (at the time) 5 year old daughters. It was a sew your own doll. So to a 5 year old a bald and naked (ie: terrifying) doll, the kit included pins and a needle and was totally not age appropriate (said 7+ on the packet). It was 2 weeks before Xmas at a party where "santa" came and gave out the gifts and to make matters worse one of her friends got a my Little Pony set she had on her Xmas list. She was SO upset and was crying "why has Santa given me a bald dolly? Have I been bad?" Just awful! The following year I got the gift myself, this year she was old enough to understand about secret santa and to be grateful for whatever she was given.

whitechocolatespaceegg · 22/12/2018 17:56

I once got penis shapes marshmallows with a lot of chocolate to dip them in. ShockHmmConfused

TovaGoldCoin · 22/12/2018 18:01

A half empty Hotel Chocolat wallet thingy.... Missing the big bar and some nice chocs

Cab65 · 22/12/2018 18:44

I got a copy of the New Issue, it had even been already read. I was mortified, and no one ever owned up.

MrsHandles · 22/12/2018 19:03

Someone where I work got a single Christmas themed toilet roll. She was livid. The recipient had upset a few people that year and quite liked looking down on her colleagues, so whoever bought it for her must’ve thought she’d shit on them from a great height at some point.

Just to clarify, I did not buy the toilet roll.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 22/12/2018 19:07

Fake snow in a test tube, and a box of Milk Tray. The whole team knows I am allergic to chocolate...

Not me, but a colleague was given a copy of the New Testament this year. She is an atheist and was very bemused.

Mummadeeze · 22/12/2018 19:10

Someone bought me the Bridget Jones soundtrack when I was single in my 20s with a hopeless love life, always drunk and on a constant diet. I was a bit offended at the time but I can see why they thought it was a suitable present now looking back!

ButtMuncher · 22/12/2018 19:12

My DH was once bought a gimp mask. To be fair, they're all bonkers IT bods and it was a joke present but i don't think it ever made it home!

kazlau · 22/12/2018 19:12

A sleazy boss turned out to be my secret Santa. Bought me a pearl necklace and made smutty comments about it not being the first “pearl necklace” I’d had round my neck. No one knew where to look. I was mortified. I gave it to a charity shop. Horrible creep.

MrsJacksonAvery · 22/12/2018 19:18

£7 budget. I got an egg timer - the sort you put in the saucepan and it changes colour. I knew it was from Poundland as I'd bought myself one a few weeks before. Livid, I tell you!
