To ask if you hate bras as much as me??

I’ve gained weight over the last few years (4 stone, cheers citalopram) and I literally can’t find a bra that doesn’t dig in. The ones fitted in 2 separate places are even worse. It’s the underwire.

Think I may have to resort to one of those stretchy ones. Any recommendations?

I hate that society says we must wear a bra

I wear a bra because I have naturally very saggy breasts, even as a teen my nipples pointed downwards. I would not be able to wear the majority of tops and dresses without a bra because my tits would not fill it, instead they’d create a bulge just above my belly button. Also when need to reach over the stove I’d be at risk of burning one of them! BlushGrin

Harry2006 · 16/12/2018 13:25

I like Vercella Vita shapewear from QVC (although i have brought them from ebay too). Bit of squeeze to get into at first but better than not being able to breathe from underwires. I am on the big side but i wouldnt go back to proper bras

YeOldeTrout · 16/12/2018 13:29

My brain only functions after I put bra on; love my bra.

Hope you find something comfy soon, OP.

SureIusedtobetaller · 16/12/2018 13:38

It is a bit of a social construct isn’t it- yes we need enough support to be comfy but we don’t need to be poking people in the eye with them.
Despite huge boobage I have switched to soft stretchy crop tops and I double them up for more support. Works well. Marielle stretchy bras on Amazon are great.

DrPeppersPhD · 16/12/2018 14:14

I actually love wearing my bra since I found one that fits me properly. I'm not overly large, I just prefer the shape I get with a bra, though I do go without a decent amount too.

possumgoddess · 16/12/2018 14:58

I am a pear shape with huge tummy and hips but not very big boobs. If I don't wear a bra I just look like a wax model that has melted....However I can't bear underwired bras as I find them so uncomfortable. I have started to wear post-surgery bras, they are well shaped, supportive, quite often pretty and most often slightly padded (which I need). It works for me.

cavycavy · 16/12/2018 15:42

I probably need to spend a day in M&S trying on every style (after measuring myself via boob or bust). I don't actually trust the measuring service there anymore. But as with all things boob-jail related, even trying on bra's brings on a rage inside me. The taking a selection into the changing room, getting totally undressed, seeing naked body in mirror, then totally redressed, coat on and bags... back out on the shop floor and repeat until madness sets in.

In the mean time the shops in my middle of nowhere small town are very limited... Sainsbury's and Asda probably have the widest selection of bras for the larger breasted woman. (I've always classed myself as a DD but according to boob or bust I'm a G which no supermarket would stock).

Losing weight would be the simplest solution!

This was timely Cavy, I've just impulse bought some bra clips to hold my bloody straps up, SICK of it I am!

Asda do fairly decent bras up to a G - I used to get the majority of mine from there because there's lots of choice, but my straps always slipped so I did the Boob or Bust thing and instead of being a 36G, apparently I'm a 32J.

Well I could barely do a 32 up so I bought quite a few in 34H instead (at £30 or so a pop, as Asda cheapos only go up to a G). Now not only do my straps still slip, they're too bloody tight and the wires dig in as well.

Asda bras were perfectly fine fit-wise, it was just that my straps slipped and I thought the Holy grail would be to go down a band size and up a cup size. But no its still a bloody contraption of torture, so today I bought a lovely glossy bra for £4 from Asda and some strap clips.

Stupid poxy tits.

treaclesoda · 16/12/2018 16:01

I would be in agony without a bra. I can't even tolerate not wearing it in bed. Even taking a shower for ten minutes feels horrible, I can't bear the feeling of not being held in place, it's so uncomfortable. I dream of having small boobs. Since the age of about 13, if I could have one wish in life it would be to have small boobs.

BuffaloCauliflower · 16/12/2018 17:23

I would never trust an M&S measuring, they’re always wrong.

cavycavy · 16/12/2018 17:37

Thank you for all the recommendations! Going to have a good look around on the net once my little one is in bed.

Bloody dangly external glands.

I wear M & S without wides, very comfy.

HestiaParthenos · 16/12/2018 17:46

I never even started wearing bras. As I am blessed with small breasts, that works fine for me so far.

I'm all for a revolution to overthrow the social expectation that we wear bras.

Sure, some women need bras for support, but a lot of women just plain don't.

I know dozens of women whose breasts aren't larger than mine, and yet, they all wear bras because society expects it.

cavycavy · 16/12/2018 18:14

For me, it’s the wire poking into my armpits. I need a large cup (G apparently), but I’ve definitely tried an F before and it’s like the width of my rib cage - and I consider myself naturally m large framed under all the podge - doesn’t allow for 2 massive semi circles. So the wire has to sit directly under my arm pit’s and, inevitably, into my armpits. It bloody hurts.

Like jeans, I just feel like my body doesn’t fit the typical ‘model’ form, even in the larger sizes. I’m a 20 at the moment (5ft8in) and NOTHING fits me.

I have to wear a tunic for work which, without some kind of bra, my boobs would fall below the dart designed to go under the boob.

I vote for moo moo dresses and no bra

I bought some nursing bras when pregnant a couple of years ago and, much to husband's dismay, never went back to a real bra again. Now pregnant again so he can't complain any more.

evil laugh

Before I got pregnant I was a 36G. I am bigger than that now, but will worry about looking for a bra in a year or so. 😂

This is what I bought:

Squall · 16/12/2018 18:46

I can honestly say I have never seen or heard of someone being poked in the eye with a boob, unless they deliberately put their head into them.Confused
I never wear a bra and have no experience of flying boobs Grin

ChristmasWrappingTheWaitresses · 16/12/2018 18:48

I get these really comfy quite supportive bras off eBay at 3 for 10 quid. I absolutely love them they're so comfortable I can even wear them in bed which have never done for years. I'm never going back to wearing anything underwired again.

BumDisease · 16/12/2018 18:55

As a HH (down from a JJ!) you can pry my bra from my dead body.

Unusualusernames · 16/12/2018 19:07

I hate bras with a passion. I’m a 32FF and they cost me a fortune because I can only find them in department stores or specialist shops. I have a hiatal hernia which causes problems with my digesthon which I think is made worse by the fact I’ve been wearing bras with really tight bands. I also get suffer with neck pain which I think is made worse by bras.

I have recently discovered M&S DD+ bralettes which are much more comfy and give surprisingly good support.

Basically I feel your pain Confused

cavycavy · 16/12/2018 19:29

christmas wrapping i like the look of those. Without sounding too much like a weirdo from Tinder, how big are your boobs??

OP posts:
FinallyHere · 16/12/2018 19:45

I probably need to...

Made an appointment at rigby and Peller, take a day off go and find your comfortable, properly fitted.

Yes, it is worth it. Enjoy.

PipGoesPop · 16/12/2018 19:46

I have massive boobs that aren't pert so I do need support. I hate the feeling of nipples rubbing against fabric and without a bra anything more than a sedate walk is uncomfortable - forget running for a bus. I could wear a non underwired bra but urgh to looking like a great aunt harriet with her comely bosom.

I have a great fitting bra that is comfortable for about 8 hours then wham it's not. I think the body expands during the day and then the wires dig in.
.

When when when will someone invent an alternative? All this technology and fuck all in the bra dept.

ChristmasWrappingTheWaitresses · 16/12/2018 19:47

Hilarious cavycavy

Well I'm a 36c and wear a large.

They are perfectly supportive and give a nice smooth shape IMO.

In the summer they were really good under low cut dresses in bright colours they looked like an additional under top. I don't like flashing cleavage.

And cheap as chips but original ones I bought still going strong 8 months later. I did buy one in every colour.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 16/12/2018 19:52

Mine aren't massive (C or a D cup), but I'm currently wearing my favouritest one, which was very cheap from Matterlan. It's a t-shirt bra, so no underwire.

It's literally like having my breasts being cuddled when I wear it!

And it gives me a fabulous cleavage!
