Hickey?

ernjas · 16/12/2018 10:05

After a rare baby-free night last night, I've woke up with hickeys on my neck.
I've argued with DP about this as I find it so embarrassing for an adult to have hickeysConfused and I have to go to a fairly new and professional job tomorrow.
He's in a mood as he claims it wasn't intentional and I'm being unreasonable to be so pissed about it.
AIBU??!

Side note: does anyone have any ways of effectively covering these???Envy

Turtleneck

Ohyesiam · 16/12/2018 10:07

I doubt he did it on purpose.
Concealer, or a scarf?

Bambamber · 16/12/2018 10:07

YANBU I don't think it's entirely possible to professional with hickeys. Did you not realise he was doing it at the time?

ernjas · 16/12/2018 10:09

Work has a fairly strict uniform so I'm not sure how subtle a turtleneck could look but I'm going to give it a go.
@Bambamber I didn't which I'm more annoyed about! They're not very dark hickeys, they're fairly light so easily done, but there's a couple and they're more central on my neck than off round the side so definitely noticeable. I was hoping hair down would cover the things!!

I would be going absolutely mental if that was me, that sort of thing could get me fired!

You don’t give hickeys accidentally, you just don’t. Clothes are the best thing to cover them OP, I’d be too worried about makeup wearing off.

THEsonofaBITCH · 16/12/2018 10:11

its a bruise so stimulate blood flow by taking hot shower/bath and using a hot compress alternating with gentle rubbing with a soft toothbrush or wash clothe to stimulate refreshing the site with fresh blood flow, caffeine tea bags placed on the site, etc anything to vasodilate the area and get the blood moving again. Try a dressy scarf for tomorrow?

Reaa · 16/12/2018 10:11

Hold a 2p coin on them. I think you hold the coin for a minute then wait 5 mins and hold it on again for another minute.

ernjas · 16/12/2018 10:12

@Jammydodger1981 exactly what I said. You can't give them accidentally. With it being a new job and still making first impressions I'm so mortified!!!

My ex used to do this, basically his way of 'branding' me. I find it interesting your DP has done this as you're about to start a new job...

Sunnysidegold · 16/12/2018 10:18

But how did you not notice at the time?!?!?

Arnica cream is meant to help bruised I think.

Plump82 · 16/12/2018 10:19

Why didnt you stop him when he was sucking at your neck!! Hickeys arent exactly done unnoticed.

user1473878824 · 16/12/2018 10:20

Unless he did them while you were asleep I’m not sure you can totally blame him!

THEsonofaBITCH · 16/12/2018 10:21

if anyone notices - a funny story about how you and partner were so excited about starting a new job you "celebrated"?

ernjas · 16/12/2018 10:21

Yes I should've noticed but as I said they're light so it wasn't major sucking and definitely just felt like kissing. We'd had a few drinks and he was kissing my neck for total of about 10 seconds. It's also not a common occurrence and I always trust him not to give me them as I don't believe they're accidental and he knows that I despise them

OP posts:
insideoutsider · 16/12/2018 10:22

Sorry - honestly clueless about this. I'm dark-skinned and I've always wondered why people have such a bad reaction to hearing about or seeing hickies...

What is wrong with them? Doesn't it come from someone kissing or sucking on the skin?

ernjas · 16/12/2018 10:22

@user1473878824 yes, I don't think I can totally blame him either. It was just a shock of anger when I woke up and saw them!

OP posts:
ernjas · 16/12/2018 10:23

@insideoutsider they just don't look pleasant at all to me, let alone professional. I'm very pale too so they show up very easily!Blush

I think hickeys happen easier when you're drunk. You bruise easier too. I've only ever woken up with unexpected hickies after drinking!

Put arnica cream on it a few times today and use concealer and a neck scarf tomorrow. It's cold enough that nobody will think anyone of it. Harder in the summer!

Oysterbabe · 16/12/2018 10:27

Yuck! I would be furious.
I still burn with shame when I remember proudly strutting around showing these off as a teen Blush

ernjas · 16/12/2018 10:28

@AnchorDownDeepBreath yes it must be, so obviously not completely DP's fault.

@Oysterbabe and yes, I am! Trying to calm myself down and think of solutions rather than just stressing about it!

OP posts:
ernjas · 16/12/2018 10:30

Would arnica cream help the bruising go down by tomorrow? And is it safe to use on the neck?

This is the first I'm hearing of arnica cream!

Ansumpasty · 16/12/2018 10:37

You need to go out and buy a turtle neck.

I agree with the others- they’re done on purpose. You don’t just accidentally suck someone’s neck so hard that you bruise it.

Someone was marking his territory, IMO

Stephisaur · 16/12/2018 10:42

I think a scarf would be better than a turtleneck.

Completely against the grain, but I do believe they can be an accident. I’ve accidentally hickeyed my husband before - it is easier when you’re drunk. Maybe because you bruise easier, or maybe you don’t realise how hard you’re going.

If they’re light, you should be able to cover them with makeup. If you can get a colour correcting concealer with a green base, that will help :)

My very first thought too.
