to think that they will remake Harry Potter?

I’m not sure how I would feel about a remake/when it would happen if it ever did though...

How long do you think it would likely be before they did?

OP posts:
Cubrrt · 15/12/2018 22:27

It'll happen when it makes financial sense.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 15/12/2018 22:29

Harry potter would work much better as a an online Netflix style series.

MyPatronusIsAHyena · 15/12/2018 22:30

Love the idea of a Netflix series HP!

Pachyderm1 · 15/12/2018 22:32

I want them to do it as a tv series, on GOT scale

BigBoringWedding · 15/12/2018 22:33

I never bought into Harry Potter. Read the books when they first came out and couldn’t believe people were wetting their collective knickers over something that seemed deeply, deeply derivative. Have just read first HP to DS and am still of the same opinion.
Films were utter pish though.

Amaaboutthis · 15/12/2018 22:33

I think My family are literally the only people in the world who have no interest in either the books or films. We read the first one and didn’t find it interesting and watched the first film and switched off

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 15/12/2018 22:34

You're just so edgy, Ama.

ohwellinthatcasetryprunes · 15/12/2018 22:36

I can see Matthew Bourne doing something based on the Harry Potter stories.

WinterfellWench · 15/12/2018 22:38

The 'Lord of the rings' saga, is a load of overrated, long winded, drawn out shyte. Each film was about an hour too long.

Just saying.

Harry potter shits all over LOTR and the equally boring 'hobbit' I would rather have a root canal than sit through another chapter of LOTR or the hobbit.

And the young actors from Harry Potter haven't done too badly for themselves, seeing as how they apparently can't ACT! Hmm

WinterfellWench · 15/12/2018 22:39

@Amaaboutthis

I think my family are literally the only people in the world who have no interest in either the books or films.

Don't bloody watch the films, or read the sodding books then! Hmm

SweetSummerchild · 15/12/2018 22:42

GOT is a fucking horrendous adaptation of a book series - and that was with the largest budget of any TV series, ever. Too many cuts had to be made ‘because of the budget’. Most book snobs absolutely loathe GOT as an adaptation. HP, on the other hand, is already a successful movie series. It is not without its flaws (as was the original book series), but the movie adaptation was hardly ‘horrendous’.

It just won’t float as a TV series.

HestiaParthenos · 15/12/2018 22:44

Boneyback; are you saying the Harry Potter films were no good?

Oh, come on.

Are there really people who actually liked the sexist, nonsensical shit they did with Goblet of Fire, turning the only magical school in France into an all-girls and the only magical shool in ... well, wherever Durmstrang is, into an all-boys school, even though Hogwarts, which only caters to British children, is co-ed?

It makes no logical sense, the way the girls from Beauxbatons were portrayed was misogynist, and it didn't add anything to the story, or save any money, or do anything at all.

Oh, and they put Hermione in a pink dress when the book clearly said her dress was blue, for no good reason at all.

You are welcome to like the movies, but that you don't even understand why someone would dislike them does surprise me. Confused

lunar1 · 15/12/2018 22:46

I think it will be a tv series and hopefully in the HP world but a new incarnation. I hate the lack of creativity that makes the entertainment industry remake the same characters instead of building on it.

WinterfellWench · 15/12/2018 22:49

Do pipe down Hestia. You sound ridiculous.

I have never heard such a load of histrionic OTT bollocks in my life.

Chill the fuck out. Wink

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 15/12/2018 22:51

Oh, and they put Hermione in a pink dress when the book clearly said her dress was blue, for no good reason at all.
I can explain this.
It was because of the Christmas trees.

Because they were green blue was used for the chroma key (green scren). If she was in blue any digital background addition would have shown through her torso.

That's why it wasn't blue, it doesn't mean it couldn't have been purple of red though.

WinterfellWench · 15/12/2018 22:53

What is making ME laugh, is how some posters are so insistent that Harry Potter films are all shit! And are pouring scorn on anyone who likes them, like they are somehow beneath them.

Fucking laughable! Wink

NEWSFLASH: not everyone will agree with you that HP films are crap. You carry on trying to be a trendy 'right-on' hipster if you like hun, but 100's of millions of others don't give a fuck about your opinions and LOVE Harry potter films (and books!)

Chloe84 · 15/12/2018 22:56

What is making ME laugh, is how some posters are so insistent that Harry Potter films are all shit! And are pouring scorn on anyone who likes them, like they are somehow beneath them.

But you're shitting all over LOTR?

I love HP and LOTR equally and I'm not offended if people don't like one or both Confused

SweetSummerchild · 15/12/2018 22:57

What is making me laugh is how some posters are holding GoT up as some sort of ‘gold standard’ in adapatations when it is, in fact, far from it. As a book snob, HP films are a far better adaptation of a book series.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 15/12/2018 22:59

Best book adaptation I've seen is that 1970's BBC adaptation of Dracula.

Unihorn · 15/12/2018 23:11

I think the films are atrocious and I have never understood how fans of the books could possibly like them. Huge parts were cut out or altered, the acting was awful and much of the scripts were horrendous.

I've read every book 10-15 times and went to the midnight releases for books 4-7. I still fucking hate the films.

HestiaParthenos · 15/12/2018 23:14

Do pipe down Hestia. You sound ridiculous

No. You sound rude, and I will ignore you from now on. I thought you were a reasonable person, but it seems I was very much mistaken.

I should have take the clue when you decided to shit on LotR. You are just rude and not worth talking to.

Because they were green blue was used for the chroma key (green scren). If she was in blue any digital background addition would have shown through her torso.

Ahhh, interesting.
Good to know at least there was a reason they didn't go with what is in the books.
Though I do think purple would have fit better. Hermione never was the pinkified sort of girl, it just didn't make sense.

What is making me laugh is how some posters are holding GoT up as some sort of ‘gold standard’ in adapatations when it is, in fact, far from it. As a book snob, HP films are a far better adaptation of a book series.

I haven't read ASOIAF, much too cruel for my taste, but from what I've heard, the films took everything wrong with the books and made it worse.

In that case, I agree that the HP films are better - I dislike a lot about them (though I suppose it is no one's fault that many actors don't look at all like the characters they portray), but they didn't make things that were bad about the books worse, and actually managed to get some good plotlines right.

DarkDarkNight · 15/12/2018 23:17

I’m a bit too old for Harry Potter (The Worst Witch was more of my time) so don’t have much of an opinion other than to say I think it wouldn’t be for a long time and the cost would be prohibitive.

But I have recently been watching The Witches and Just read tonight that they are remaking it. I’m a bit sad about that, I love the original. I think this one is going to stick to the original ending, and not have the happy ending Ronald Dahl disliked so much.

BigBoringWedding · 15/12/2018 23:19

ASOIAF??

HestiaParthenos · 15/12/2018 23:20

You think there might be a remake of The Worst Witch? I only saw snippets of it, and would like to read the whole series, but I don't think they have the book series (there was a book series, right?) at my local library.

Never seen the film on TV.

It's a pity, there were so many bad HP ripoffs, they could have tried to make The Worst Witch popular again with magical schools being so trendy.

YesILikeItToo · 15/12/2018 23:23

For children who didn't tackle all this "in order" like adults did, they come to the whole world already populated by the vision in the films. Using the Pottermore website they are really encouraged to think about the actors and the filmmaking at the same time they are reading the books. I cannot imagine my daughter even wanting to see a movie with different actors or a different vision. She has had one bad experience of a remake (Swallows and Amazons) and she'd be much more protective of HP. The audience wouldn't be core fans, I don't think.
