We have finally deciphered that "those things that you go crash" are cymbals - FML
This is the only thing he has stated that he wants.
AIBU to think that I will be buying them over my dead cold body.....

SDTG that's what I'm planning on doing but he has very clearly stated he does NOT want this and the ice cream must be in his stocking. It will not melt because Santa is magic. You can't reason with a 2 year old Xmas Hmm.

catgirl1976 · 14/12/2018 18:45

I came on to tell you how mean you were. Having read your OP I have completely changed my mind.

CheshireChat · 14/12/2018 22:13

Trinpy you can sometimes get in b&m and the like, fake chocolate ice creams. So they're with normal chocolate, but look like ice creams.

If not, maybe an ice cream plushie?

CheshireChat · 14/12/2018 22:14

Or put it in his stocking and make lots of noise so he wakes up- maybe bells? (I'm too invested)

5SleepingLions · 14/12/2018 22:23

I wish my 3 year old wanted cymbals she wants a real unicorn that she can keep in the garden and feed carrots to Grin

highheelsandbobblehats · 14/12/2018 22:26

I'd say buy them, but I may not be the best judge as my 7 year old has a full sized drum kit and my five year old has a guitar. Both love music. We live in an Edwardian terrace, but our loft has floorboards and a window, so we put it up there and let the neighbours know. They can hear it, but it's not an obnoxious level for them. And he does have drum lessons.

They'll drive you bonkers for a bit and then he'll move on.

Missillusioned · 14/12/2018 22:31

Buy them. And then buy yourself a set of noise cancelling headphones. Bose are very good

Tellem2 · 14/12/2018 22:33

Can have a musical genius on your hands don't stifle it OP

KipperTheFrog · 14/12/2018 22:35

lions my 4 year old wants the same!

AnotherCleftMum · 14/12/2018 22:37

I'd get the cymbals. You can always tidy them up if it gets too noisey. And make sure the other toys are quiet ones!

Trinpy what about putting the icecream in a thermos flask? I've taken ice on a picnic before so I know they work to keep cold things cold.

Alwaysatyke · 14/12/2018 22:38

Finger cymbals are a thing, and they're the answer to your problem

cantkeepawayforever · 14/12/2018 22:57

DS was a year old when we filled his stocking with percussion instruments (triangle, cymbals, bells, shaky eggs)..

He's now 18 and just auditioned successfully for music conservatoire (though on a wind instrument). Little did we know what we were starting....

SadOtter · 14/12/2018 23:00

Do it, he'll lose interest soon enough, or you'll learn to tune it out and you can pick up kids ones pretty cheap.

I did decide to teach my DD recorder when she was 4 though, and she does have a drum kit, ocarina, harmonica, a guitar and a keyboard, so I am clearly a bit odd. (she can play them all pretty well too)

littlemisscomper · 14/12/2018 23:10

@Trinpy

How about something like this?

www.amazon.co.uk/Melissa-Doug-Scoop-Magnetic-Pretend/dp/B004KPKWKO?tag=mumsnetforum-21

With the chocolate one in his stocking and the rest of the box under the tree. That would be so cute!! Or it could lead to a massive tantrum, depending how he takes it...

£6.99 full band set including things that go crash!! 😁

Do it, he will love it!*

On the back of this post I have bought my 1 year old this kit! Sounds like a bargain at £6.99 and if I can learn to ignore the noise of a Vtech walker, I can learn to ignore cymbals right?

littlemisscomper · 14/12/2018 23:26

@CrazyOldBagLady

Is that the 'Hello Puppy calling do you want to play with me...?' one? That noise is permanently seared into my brain from working with toddlers.

@littlemisscomper

"...let's have fun together while we learn out ABC!"

Puppy says, what the fuck were you thinking when you brought that home.

Avonandice · 15/12/2018 10:02

Ill swap you a pair of cymbals for the electric violin that my daughter has for xmas.

Would be fine except that her dad has found a serious amp for it.

mogtheexcellent · 15/12/2018 11:12

Finger cymbals? Fills the criteria without damaging ear drums.

FWIW I hate pinkification but DD asked Santa for a flamingo outfit for Christmas so have bought her a pink flamingo onsie. It would be wrong to ignore what she asked for

pissedonatrain · 15/12/2018 11:41

I'd say go for it. He'll probably lose interest quickly. Buy a bunch of ear plugs too.
