To be pissed about my Eve mattress?

NinjaTurtleMikey · 12/12/2018 00:28

I bought an Eve mattress in February and by March/April it started to dip! It was on a brand new oak framed bed so no blaming that. Took until a few weeks ago to get it across to their customer service and they sent an “engineer” out. Engineer came over, took a picture of a spirit level on the bed and one of the bed slats. He agreed it had dipped and left.

I then receive an email from Eve to say that they’re glad I signed the paperwork in agreement with the engineer that there was no dip in the mattress. I wasn’t even shown a statement let alone signing one! The response being basically “take us to court then”!

I might add a few points. 1) I weigh 8st and partner 16st - nobody exactly obscenely over weight. 2) the mattress has a removable zip cover, so as the photo was taken from the edge of the bed and the zip pulls the cover tight to the edges it’s not going to show a dip in the middle!

Has anyone had similar with one of these newfangled boxed mattresses? I have musculoskeletal problems and this is not helping.

The engineer did take his shoes off before walking on the carpet though which was nice of him.

Definitely contact them on Twitter. They can delete posts on their Facebook wall, but can't delete any Tweets you make.

Also, go to MoneySavingExpert.com and find out your rights. There will also be information on how to resolve consumer issues, so should always be your first stop for advice.

Send them an email every day (forward the previous one so you have a long chain), tweet them every day. Make yourself an annoying problem that they will want to get off their backs asap.

Use a template from Money Savings expert quoting Section 74 of the Trade Act. You will win

Wow thank you everyone! Glad to see I’m not actually unreasonable. My partner broke his spine in 3 places a few years ago and the fact that he chose the sofa over the bed speaks volumes! Especially as the sofa is so uncomfortable. I’ll go through their pissy link and see what they say then I’ll get onto them via social media. I don’t usually get sucked into these “fad” things (simba, eve and the rest are the same in different boxes) but I let my partner choose. It’s so comfortable if you get a bit that hasn’t actually been laid on 🙄 it’s only the dips letting it down. Hated it when I was pregnant though because all my weight was on the middle and I’d get so stuck lol

My OTTY mattress has done the same! There’s a comfy stretch down the middle but we sleep in pits of doom

UhUhUhDennis · 12/12/2018 20:45

Anyone buying these foam unroll out the box mattresses must know they're getting ripped off and they're not going to last. Come on you must know! Get your money back and go back to a spring mattress.

NinjaTurtleMikey · 12/12/2018 21:04

@uhuhuhdennis out of curiosity why? Memory foam mattresses have been about for ages and I’ve mever heard of this or I wouldn’t have bought one

@thehop oh no doom pits! Can I ask when yours started and if the company said anything?

Because there's loads of companies offering the same thing suggesting it's cheap to make and people are trying to cash in. The foam is obviously low quality and any mattress that you unfold from a box is clearly going to be a load of crap. Great maybe for a cheap option for a guest bed used occasionally but not for everyday and not for £700. Get a refund somehow then buy something decent to replace it with. Good luck.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 12/12/2018 22:00

If / when you contact them on social media it's probably worth linking to this thread. They're really not going to want bad reviews on Mumsnet so it might help to concentrate their minds.

BouncyTigger85 · 12/12/2018 22:06

@UhUhUhDennis Memory foam mattresses don’t only come in boxes, there were many available before Eve, Simba etc. all come out that are not boxed. My current memory foam mattress came flat, like my previous spring based one did.

BifsWif · 12/12/2018 22:11

Find an email address online for the CEO, someone will pick up the complaint and I’m willing to bet you’ll have a satisfactory response within days.

UhUhUhDennis · 12/12/2018 22:13

@BouncyTigger85 yep I know that I didn't say there aren't decent memory foam mattresses out there, but they're more money/better quality foam/not mass produced in the millions by many companies and they don't come in a box Grin

ScienceIsTruth · 12/12/2018 22:14

I have severe back problems, and out of all the beds I've slept in, I've found memory foam to be the worst. I'm not overweight, but my memory foam mattress dipped within 2 months; it was also a 'Which Best Buy' at the time.
It was really uncomfortable and I woke up in pain every morning, but the manufacturer wasn't interested as soon as they had my £800 (10 years ago) and wouldn't accept there was anything wrong, so I spent the next 6 years sleeping on a recliner.

Keep fighting. Wish I had.

BouncyTigger85 · 12/12/2018 22:19

@UhUhUhDennis Fair point, I apologise, I get very defensive my my memory foam mattress Grin

BouncyTigger85 · 12/12/2018 22:21

of my* Blush

UhUhUhDennis · 12/12/2018 22:29

No need to apologise

UhUhUhDennis · 12/12/2018 22:30

@ScienceIsTruth that's awful hope you have a nice comfy mattress now

TweedAddict · 12/12/2018 22:34

Ikea spring mattress comes in a roll. My son has one- we used too, everyone who sleeps on it loves it. We’ve got a 10year old hybrid spring/foam top thing, it’s the most softest mattress ever, but no one else like it.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 12/12/2018 22:45

Oh god, memory foam wrecks my back, too! I'm comfiest on a mattress so firm it could be cement.

Suggest you give a very precise complaint, OP, once you've had a good look at what you "signed" and if you get no where, pester power via social media. I can't believe they're getting away with this.

Ollivander84 · 12/12/2018 22:50

Mine is a spring one topped with memory foam - I find it really good for my back and I've had a major spinal op in 2017. Memory foam alone doesn't work for me

heeblejeeble · 12/12/2018 23:01

I have a Simba mattress and I love it! We had an issue when we moved in that the top layer bunched up underneath the cover when the removal men stored it on its side. But within a week we had a brand new mattress plus pillows and mattress protector to say sorry for the inconvenience.
Do eve have a phone number for customer services? I always find it easier to be arsey on the phone and things get done quicker. They certainly shouldn't claim you've signed something I'd be livid! I hope you get it sorted OP.
