My husband and I picked out a name for our son and a few days after he was born DH said he didn't think the name fit. So now we are back to the drawing board!

We have two other children with classic children's names and a surname that has two syllables.

Names we narrowed down to are

Arthur (husband no longer likes this one!)

Jonathan

David

Andrew

Feedback and suggestions welcome.

God I'm glad I had a girl, I hate all boy's names apparently Blush

Wouldn't go for any of these except David. You definitely don't seem like you're after giving him an 'unusual' name... But if your husband has gone of 'Arthur' (a name I always think sounds a bit dough-y and adenoidal) but you still like it, what about Archer? Same basic idea but butches it up a bit, and you can call him Archie when he's a biby which is quite cute if you like that sort of thing...?

Andrew

Jonathan was on our shortlist. I thought Jonty was cute but DH disagreed Hmm

Myusername101z · 12/12/2018 13:57

Don’t call the poor child David

NonExistentFox · 12/12/2018 14:21

Or Cameron.

Your replies have been great so far. Thanks so much, really helpful. I especially appreciated your opinions on the name Arthur! I personally don't like dated "trend" names.

Thanks for the perspective on Jonathan. I really like the name and nicknames (Jon, Jonny, Jonty) so it has good potential.

I think we have narrowed it to Jonathan and David for now unless we find something else.

I will chat about Alexander with DH as I have always liked Alex and Alec as well as the full name.

Re Theodore I loved that one but DH doesn't like "Theo" or "Teddy" and thinks the name is too much of a mouthful in long form.

Re Frank - that was my grandfather's name. Isn't it typically short for Francis? (It wasn't in his case.). I just can't see myself using it for this generation but interesting that it's making a comeback.

  • without Hmm
Davros · 12/12/2018 16:19

Someone earlier suggested Liam. That is short for William btw

dinodiva · 12/12/2018 16:29

Jonathan. Might be a bit biased there. 😉
Have had nothing but compliments on his name as well - there aren’t many out there but people have heard of it. We liked the different nickname options.

Thesmallthings · 12/12/2018 16:43

Jonathan is my favourite from your list.

Also really like.

Harry
Frankie (for girl or boy)
Albert
Quin
Eugine

BertramKibbler · 12/12/2018 16:46

I’ve never known a nice Andrew, known a few horrible ones though.

I like Jonathan

SilverySurfer · 12/12/2018 17:04

Amgelima · 12/12/2018 17:49

Ha! Ichabod! I always think of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.... and the Headless Horseman..
