It's had some good reviews some really bad-mostly about clothes. So though I'd try it out spent about £25 on some okay looking stuff. Anyone bought stuff from them is it just a massive con or just miss and match somes good somes bad kind of thing.
This is what happens when I don't sleep!

I bought some wool, which is fine- what I would expect from a store. The free gift I selected didn’t turn up though.

ShadowHuntress · 12/12/2018 08:46

I’ve ordered quite a lot from there and been happy with everything. I do check all of the product reviews before I purchase though. I recently bought a long glitter sequin jacket thing for a Xmas party and it arrived about 10 days later and was excellent quality it’s the most expensive thing I ever got from them and was £20

LowbrowVictoriana · 12/12/2018 09:02

I've looked on Wish a couple of times: the advertised price is never what you're asked to pay.
I selected a dress advertised at one price, but when I clicked on it it said more. After I selected my size it went up again! It was around 60% more expensive than first advertised, so more than just the added VAT.

To heck with that.

ChocolateTearDrops · 12/12/2018 09:07

@BehemothPullsThePeasantsPlough... has it spot on.

Neverunderfed · 12/12/2018 09:11

Absolutely. But as seen by this thread more people are likely to think 'ah well, why not' when something is £1.20 than walk in to John Lewis and spend £12.

Looneytune253 · 12/12/2018 09:40

I’ve bought loads over the years. Mostly ok. Bought a phone and tablet last Xmas. Tablet is still ok and well loved. Phone didn’t work at all but got an instant refund when we told them. Worth the risk I would say.

bookmum08 · 12/12/2018 09:43

The difference between buying from John Lewis is the buyers will know exactly which factory in China the products will have come from and what the conditions/wages are for the workers andthe products will have been safety checked. Something from a website - who knows where the products have come from. That cheap 'Lego' could be made from some dangerous chemicals that could kill children. You simply don't know.

sabrinathethirtysomethingwitch · 12/12/2018 09:44

I've bought random bits!! I was quite surprised how good they were. Took weeks to come though

Avegemitesandwich · 12/12/2018 09:44

Absolutely. But as seen by this thread more people are likely to think 'ah well, why not' when something is £1.20 than walk in to John Lewis and spend £12.

Exactly. That is pretty obvious isn't it?

Plus with Wish you get the really weird stuff where you can't even tell what it is, that people just end up putting into their basket because it's like 70p and they are 'intrigued' or whatever.

SlowNorris · 12/12/2018 09:57

Yeah yeah, plastic shit, we get it. Why repeat the same comment over and over?

Neverunderfed · 12/12/2018 09:59

It's kind of important? Hmm

flamingofridays · 12/12/2018 10:01

It is important but shoving it down peoples throats doesnt help because it just annoys people.

Avegemitesandwich · 12/12/2018 10:09

What annoys me is people being like 'OMG David Attenborough is so right, look at this video I am sharing about global warming, isnt it like so shocking, ah I just love the Iceland ad much those poor orangutans, look at my necklace, its made from plastic that was found floating around the sea, think of the turtles, if we don't do something soon there won't be a planet for our grandchildren to....... Oh my days Wish is just so amazing, look what I bought off there, it was like a pound, I don't even know what it actually is but I thought for a pound it's worth a punt isn't it, you have to wait weeks whilst the stuff is shipped from the other side of the planet, and pretty much everyone has said that the clothes are so small they will never actually fit me, but it was so cheap and......... Oh look at this new video I am sharing about why using brown paper not patterned wrapping paper for Xmas is better'.

flamingofridays · 12/12/2018 10:13

But thats the real world. Not everyone can afford to solely shop in john Lewis.

Not everyone has the time to only buy fruit veg and meat loose from their local highstreet (i would have to drive to get my local butcher which again wouldn't meet your exacting standards.)

Surely doing something is better than doing nothing?

Youll win nobodys respects with an attitude like that.

Titsywoo · 12/12/2018 10:14

I've bought lots of clothes for dd from wish. They've all been pretty decent quality. I only shopped there as they had stuff from a certain Asian band she likes that you can't get over here.

bookmum08 · 12/12/2018 10:29

I can't afford John Lewis either so I buy at retailers like Wilkos or B+M. Cheaper but actually following Trading Standards rules and Health and Safety rules etc.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 12/12/2018 10:31

I’ve bought lots off them from clothes to sunglasses to shoes.

As long as you read (and take note of) the buyer reviews of each individual product you should get what you pay for.

flamingofridays · 12/12/2018 10:33

The things from wish could easily be made in the same factories...

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 12/12/2018 10:35

the advertised price is never what you're asked to pay. I selected a dress advertised at one price, but when I clicked on it it said more.

LowbrowVictoriana I don’t think you understand how it works. If it says £8, they are starting from that price. Larger sizes or more expensive colours will cost more.

Take a dress I just bought. Starting price £8, in my size (6). If I was a larger size and say wanted to purchase a 12, I would have to pay extra.

Avegemitesandwich · 12/12/2018 10:42

It's not the buying stuff that gets me, it's the buying stuff you don't need or you know is highly likely to be utter shite and get thrown away, just because it's cheap or a bit of a novelty.

The other thing is, at least if you buy tat from your local Home Bargains you can see what you are getting in real life and therefore make a judgement about the quality. Even if it is shipped from China.

KikiMadeMeDoIt · 12/12/2018 13:00

People have mentioned plastic tat - what is it? What sorts of things are being bought?
