To think I have solved the wretched brexit deadlock?

It came to me in a dream- I’m seriously thinking of ringing Theresa tomorrow and putting it to her.

Basically- England should declare independence from the U.K. and leave the union. England and its Brexity voters can then be removed from the EU, not as a Brexit, but simply- an Exit. The U.K. of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales (if it wants to), can remain as it was before and carry on as an EU nation. All the people and companies from England who wish to remain in the U.K. can repatriate to fill skills shortages. The capital city can be somewhere tbc (I agree that this is a slight wrinkle in the plan) and yes- there would potentially be two hard borders across the island of Britain. However- given how utterly bonkers and shit everything is going to be otherwise, I think my plan has legs.

AIBU?

(Caveat- I had had some wine last night and this may have affected the logic and good sense of this plan. However, I stand by it as an elegant solution to an intractable and ridiculous problem).

Brilliant idea.

However I keep thinking most of the urban centres voted remain. So why not return to a time of city states, ruled by enlightened toga-wearing types while the serfs (Rees-Mogg, Johnson, Cameron and their ilk) grub around in the mud? The serfs exit while everyone else stays in.

Otherwise everyone is grubbing around in the mud in ten years.

You're overthinking this.
Just draw a straight line up the Uk. As Wales voted leave and London remain, It's prob easier for the left side to leave and the right hand side to stay. Cancel stamp duty for a couple of years so that people can move to whichever side they prefer. Sorted!

Ps. Not sure about the Isle of Wight's voting record. They could eith join a side en masse, or been the middle too.

As people have already pointed out it should be Wales and England that leave, Scotland and NI remaining in EU.

Apart from that, excellent plan.

Joining Scotland and Northern Ireland together for Brexit purposes was suggested by the Irish Times not long after the Referendum.

I've always liked this plan but the Tories would never go for it - they are Unionists until forced to choose otherwise.

Dammit I forgot to phone Theresa this morning and update her on this new plan- it’s too late now, she’s gone and pratted about in Brussels all day and done it all wrong 🙄.

I like your plan, but I wouldnt bother Theresa with it yet. Just go straight to Donald Tusk with it, and he can tell her thats the new deal, take it orleave it.
Sorted

Can't we just send all the Brexiteers to Wales and they declare their independence from UK and EU? Jacob Rees Mogg can go too along with his off shore investments. The rest of us stay as we were?

Donnnerbox · 12/12/2018 00:50

I like the left/right idea. After all, the partition of India / Pakistan went so well. The Welsh remainers can swop houses with the Norfolk leavers. The Kent leavers can swop with the Cornwall remainers. That way they'll all still be able to enjoy living by the seaside.

the flaw is the question of who gets custody of the North sea oil. the Scottish independence campaign was built on the assumption it would belong to Scotland but I suspect England would disagree.
