To think I have solved the wretched brexit deadlock?

MedicinalGin · 10/12/2018 21:27

It came to me in a dream- I’m seriously thinking of ringing Theresa tomorrow and putting it to her.

Basically- England should declare independence from the U.K. and leave the union. England and its Brexity voters can then be removed from the EU, not as a Brexit, but simply- an Exit. The U.K. of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales (if it wants to), can remain as it was before and carry on as an EU nation. All the people and companies from England who wish to remain in the U.K. can repatriate to fill skills shortages. The capital city can be somewhere tbc (I agree that this is a slight wrinkle in the plan) and yes- there would potentially be two hard borders across the island of Britain. However- given how utterly bonkers and shit everything is going to be otherwise, I think my plan has legs.

AIBU?

(Caveat- I had had some wine last night and this may have affected the logic and good sense of this plan. However, I stand by it as an elegant solution to an intractable and ridiculous problem).

Fastest way to bring down the cost of diesel? make the government pay for there own

Talkinpeece · 10/12/2018 21:54

Does anyone know what that NHS bus does nowadays? Could that just be repurposed as our new parliament and it can trundle round, much like a mobile library?

THIS IS THE ANSWER

MissWilmottsGhost · 10/12/2018 21:56

Have you ever considered becoming PM Gin ?

There may be a vacancy coming up and you certainly couldn't do much worse....

Would we have to keep you topped up with Wine to maintain this level of competency?

MissWilmottsGhost · 10/12/2018 22:04

Yes! Mobile parliament!

No one could complain about london-centric politics then, it would be local wherever you are Grin

The bus could have a special tune like an ice cream van to let you know it was coming....

I nominate this tune ....

marvellousnightforamooncup · 10/12/2018 22:12

I'd vote for that plan. Seems more sensible than anything TM's come up with. Unless we make a new island for brexiters like they made in Dubai but bigger.

Or, maybe it's time for Scotland to rule England for a bit. Let Holyrood take over from Westminster for a couple of hundred years.

RJnomore1 · 10/12/2018 22:15

Could we swap London with Newcastle build a few houses and hoof all the Londoners and businesses up here

Next to Scotland

blackteasplease · 10/12/2018 22:16

Actually that's fine by me as I was wanting to move to Cardiff anyway.

blackteasplease · 10/12/2018 22:17

Ooh yes I like Newcasltle let's put that in the non brexit bit and move the border South. Beautiful city.

blackteasplease · 10/12/2018 22:19

The Welsh leave voters can move to England, see, to make room for the English (london) remainers.

gerispringer · 10/12/2018 22:22

London should be an independent city state and remain within the EU. The population is bigger than some countries and we could build a wall round the m25. The EU goods would have to be airlifted into city airport though.

steppemum · 10/12/2018 22:27

well now, loads of people in east Anglia voted leave, so we could draw a line down England, all those who want to leave go and live east of the line, and those who want to remain go west.
Bit of a curve round London obviously. Then there is only one border, between England (now the east side of old England) and the rest of UK.

Best idea anyone has come up with.

steppemum · 10/12/2018 22:31

Oh yes, forgot abotu wales.
Rebuold Offa's Dyke may be the way to go.

MedicinalGin · 10/12/2018 22:33

Great idea Steppemum- love the idea of the wonky line round London.

Honestly, this idea just keeps on giving. See what you can do with a bit of lateral thinking and a good Malbec? #nailedit. Am yet to see a single brexiter complaining too- everyone will be so happy and we can all just get on with life.

The Welsh voted to leave. The SNP has already dreamed up the idea of Scotland leaving the UK and then joining the EU. And the Irish are already thinking about Northern Ireland leaving the UK and joining Republic of Ireland. Wait a couple of decades and this may all have happened.

LilithTheKitty · 10/12/2018 22:36

Um can Liverpool/Merseyside stay in too please? We voted remain too.

Coggle · 10/12/2018 22:39

After the UK leaves the EU, I reckon that people like Rees-Mogg and D Davies will sponge up vasts sums of money by selling off big chunks of the UK to the Americans, and will then scarper abroad to live off their billions somewhere much nicer than what the UK has become. So why don't we just throw the right-wingers out of the country now, and cancel Brexit? Job done.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 10/12/2018 22:47

Sorry won't work. I live inside the M25 but work outside the wall M25.

Talkinpeece That's hilarious and I've got a mental picture of the bus going round in jerky double speed...

Disquieted1 · 10/12/2018 22:48

I think we should deal with this the old fashioned way - let's declare war!
Send in the Marines! Our tanks would soon overrun most of these puny European states which will become part of the UK. Only France would be left isolated (they've got the bomb too) but I'm sure we could negotiate some kind of backstop at the border between France and the expanded UK (what is currently known as Germany, Italy, Spain and Belgium will be renamed Harryshire, Williamshire, Kateshire and Meghanshire).

Problem solved.

MayhemandMadness01 · 10/12/2018 22:53

I second Merseyside staying in, Liverpool would make a fab place to park up the parli bus - we could just chuck them in the Albert Dock afterwards

MsJaneAusten · 10/12/2018 22:57

I think Scotland should stay on the EU. And the Scottish border should move 150 miles south

Yep. South Lakes voted to remain. We’ve got Farron too. He’ll help pull together a government, so long as you don’t ask him any difficult questions about gay marriages.

Maybe we could draw up some kind of split based along the virgin rail network? To keep Scotland and London in it together? Branson’s a remainer isn’t he? He’ll help too.

StealthPolarBear · 10/12/2018 23:03

I'm in the North East. I suspect Sunderland will resist.

LuluJakey1 · 10/12/2018 23:15

I live in the north-east. I don't want it to be in Scotland and I don't want everyone who lives in London to move to Newcastle. God knows how Sunderland would react. Move London to Middlesborough - that would scare the Tories like Rees Mogg and Johnson.

Talkinpeece · 11/12/2018 10:17

DH has always suggested that we declare war on Ireland, try to invade, surrender to them and thus become part of the Republic Grin

StealthPolarBear · 11/12/2018 13:05

Excellent suggestion. We will join your army and bring nerf guns and a plastic roman sword.
