...or can my DS have a sandwich for dinner?

I’m knackered.

My baby is sick and not slept two nights in a row (3 hours sleep total each night which isn’t enough for me).

My 5yo DS has asked for a sandwich for dinner. He’s Autistic and getting food down him can be a massive challenge so I usually ensure a ‘proper’ dinner but I can barely keep my eyes open.

Can I just give him a PB sandwich (which he’ll eat NO problem) yoghurt and save myself some work?

Do it!

Emergency here is popcorn chicken and fries or peanut butter and raspberry jam sandwich with fruit

Yep. Even if you had slept like a queen the last 2 nights, you could still do it. We put waaaaay too much pressure on ourselves these days.

Canibuildasnowman · 10/12/2018 21:08

Of course you can! We get hung up on what to eat for certain meals, my kids eat chopped up veg for brekkie sometimes and scrambled eggs for dinner. Really doesn’t matter so long as the nutrition is there.

StealthPolarBear · 10/12/2018 21:39

Ragwort and the necessity ro have one hot meal. I have never understood that. Apparently its more nutritious Confused

And people say MN is a pit of vipers. You’re all so kind.

It’s truly so hard managing the sick baby and my older DS - I don’t feel like I get anything truly right.

Of course, kids need a balanced diet, but occasionally we all take short cuts - whether a sandwich, something canned, a ready meal or chips from a take away they can be a life saver. Do consider having emergency food in your freezer - I always kept fish fingers and frozen potato products and peas for those days when cooking alluded me

Sandwich is fine. Mine had it tonight (12 & 10yo so I don't even have the excuse of having a baby).

My other go to cheat one is Ham Egg, Chips and Peas.

Which is - potato waffle in the toaster (yep it works), slice of ham, egg (not for DD though as she doesn't like them) and warming the frozen peas in a cup of boiling water.

Hope you get some sleep

DS1 has a sausage sandwich every single day for dinner so you are doing better than me. Give yourself a break and try to rest OP. Sandwiches are fine - well the paediatric nutritionist I see certainly thinks so, so who am I to argue!

Youmadorwhat · 10/12/2018 23:48

Of course!! Go for it!! ❤️

My 3 year old had cereal for tea tonight!
She had a decent lunch and she asked for cereal so that’s what she had.
It’s not a regular thing. As long as your kids are fed.
I have very little time on a Monday with work, school runs and activities, so I wing it Grin

@Tryingtothinkofaclevername. I put on freezer mode and then just do a couple goes at number 2 on our toaster. Just see if beginning to brown slightly. They are not perfect but such an easy cheat 😀
