ABIU to ask what you're don't for NYE if you have children ?

Mine are aged 7-13, we usually go to av friends house but we can't do that this year. Both sets of grandparents are away, there is no other family and no other friends to go with the children
What is everyone else doing?

Steak dinner at home with hubby, a dvd and then if we manage to stay awake we'll watch it on tv

This year I am working.

The last two years we have gone to a friends but all the years before that we just stayed at home and watched TV and had a few drinks and something nice to eat.

We have a 10 &16 yr old . We are inviting friends round ( 3 couples ) , some have kids some don't . We'll have some lovely food, lots of wine & play games & possibly do some terrible dancing in the kitchen . I will go to bed pretty tipsy, come down in the morning and say "never again"🤢😂

Nothing this year as I'll most likely have a newborn, but in the past we've had two couples friends round to ours. None of them are big on going out on nye so this has worked quite well for us.

We go to an early evening Pantomime then home for mulled wine and party food

We stay over at a friend's place. The kids go to bed (late for them but not midnight, maybe 8.30) and then the grown ups get pissed and play board games. We have a rota for who has to get up with the kids while everyone else lies in!

We usually have a night of board games, party food and let the dc stay up with us to see the new year in. It's lovely 😊

Probably go my parent's for the bells and then (try) to get an early night. I usually go to a house party on NYD so like to keep myself fresh for that but it doesn't always happen!

My son is only 5 and to be honest we have a fairly normal evening. Nice tea at home then DS goes to bed at normal time (he doesn't cope well with late nights). Then we watch a film or chill, sometimss out neighbours come round (no small children). All pretty relaxed but I am not a fan of NYE and never have been.

We are staying at our friends' house. We'll have a buffet, some drinks and some games and see in the NY with the fireworks on the TV Smile

We might do a fake countdown before bedtime. DH and I won’t bother staying up late.

We don't have kids, but BIL and SIL have a 6 year old and 2 x 2 year olds.

MIL is babysitting the kids for a couple of hours over bedtime while we go out locally for a few drinks, and we'll be back for about 8pm to have food at their house and a few more drinks while watching a film or TV or playing board games (then DH and I will walk home just after midnight)

Dp will be working he always does.
My dc range from 16 to 4. The 4 yo will be in bed usual time. The others will stay up playing games and eating party snacks until dp comes home usually just as it's turning midnight we all say happy new year then bugger off to bed.
Its become a bit of a tradition now, although the oldest might have different plans this year.

When my children were that age, DH worked NYE late or night shift (so he could have Christmas Day off) so we all went to bed at normal time and ignored NYE!! I confess to having always been a right misery about it - have hated it for a long time and was delighted once we had children to have a bona fide excuse not to go out. Since the children have grown up I've been out a couple of times to friends houses but always ended up thoroughly disappointed with the way everyone else sees the new year in.

Games night and party food. We usually get a few new board games at Christmas so we play them at new year. This year we have friends from across the road (with child the same age) coming to join us.

We're planning a takeaway feast and film-marathon. Each of us will have whatever they fancy. No doubt there'll be some bizarre combination of pizza, pad thai, sag aloo and Christmas pudding!

By the end of the year we always find we have a stack of new DVDs, or recordings that we haven't yet got around to watch, so we'll watch a film between courses - stopping for bubbly at midnight, and then either watching more films or going to bed whenever we fancy afterwards.

Blobby... same here. I really wish I could look forward to it and have a good time like everybody else seems to do but I just don't like it. Never have, never will. I'm the New Year's equivalent of Bah humbug, whatever that may be!

We will be staying home this year with 4 year old and 10 year old, we will probobly get takeaway, play games and nibbles out Smile oh and lots of wine Grin

We will stay in. I doubt I'll still be awake at midnight. It's just not a big deal for us at all.

Going out early for a curry. Kids can stay up after but won't make it much past nine, and I'll be in bed by about ten!

Going to a show in the afternoon. Out for dinner and that's all. I will be alone with dds 6 and 9. Lots of treats Grin

We go out for a curry early evening, then go home, play a few games and then watch a film until midnight. We usually manage to stay up until about 12:15!

We will most likely go to our friends house. My parents don’t do New Year so are happy to have the kids (7&9). We go to our friends and sit in front of their fire and drink and talk and listen to music and then bicycle home after a few and try and remember to swerve round the wild ponies.

it's an arbitrary passage of time, do whatever you'd normally do on a dank Tuesday in January.
