...to want a new political party so I actually have someone to vote for that's not one of the existing shower?

I can't be the only one to think that this would be a superb time for a new political party to emerge. I know the UK generally doesn't do new political parties because of FPTP, but this would surely be a great way to get out of the impasse caused by the current imbeciles- mediocrities.

Even in this time of national division over Brexit, I think that one thing that unites us as a country is surely agreement that all our current party leaders are crap (OK, Corbyn cultists aside).

I ALWAYS vote but if we have an election now there is literally no-one I can face voting - they're all shite. Tories - utterly incompetent, pro-Brexit, cruel, racist; Labour - utterly incompetent, leader pro-Brexit, anti-Semitic; Lib Dems - can't even be arsed to turn up to Brexit votes and don't have any other policies; Greens - serious problems with attitudes to women and safeguarding. I'd vote Monster Raving Loony if I could but they don't tend to stand in my dull local elections, and I'm not lucky enough to have a regional alternative so that's not an option.

Who's with me for a new party? What should it be called? Policies??

The Greens have a BIG problem with their attitudes towards women and safeguarding. Google Aimee and David Challenor - really horrific. The Greens ignored the safeguarding risks and tried to cover it all up. They also refer to women as 'non-men' as apparently that is more 'inclusive language' or something (though not to women, obviously).

I'm another one who has nobody to vote for. In my constituency the nematode worm would be wearing a red rosette Grin. What's happened to all the clever, capable people? Is it because people nowadays tend to go into a political career straight from university with minimal experience of doing anything else?

Greens - at one point the Young Greens tweeted about men and non-men, which was nice. Lots of disciplinary hearings for members detected in wrongthink. (Just like Labour and the LibDems, of course.)

Then there was the scandal of David Challenor, now serving a life sentence for rape of a child, but continuing as a Green party activist and election agent during the two years between his arrest and his trial. His eldest child (aged 20) was the Greens' national spokesperson on Equalities and the two of them devised Terfblocker to use on Twitter so that anybody saying anything gender critical or even following somebody on the list could be automatically blocked and an echo chamber created. 50000 names on it. There were also some really vile revelations about fetishes.

Said spokesperson is supposed to be facing an investigation but I don't know how far that got, because Challenor Jr jumped ship and is now in the LibDems.

The Greens would have a lot to do to convince me they were a safe pair of hands after that.

As for the Women's Equality Party, they brought Heather Brunskill-Evans in for a disciplinary hearing at the behest of a trans woman on their executive because H, who was a spokeswoman at the time, expressed caution about the huge rise in numbers of children and teenagers going to gender identity clinics. So no, not voting for them either.

I agree OP.

But the real shame is that we didn’t need a new party of the sort so many want and would vote for. We had one: Labour pre-Corbyn.

I had hoped we could oust Corbyn. But we can’t. Ever. Because of the rabidly single-minded, otherwise-empty-life activism of the far left.

So a new party it must be. If the centrists of the PLP broke away I think they’d destroy Corbyn in a General Election. Get on with it!

lucydogz · 10/12/2018 17:27

I totally agree.
But Corbyn will not last beyond the next GE.. imo. At present he is being kept in power by party activists. When they lose the next GE he will be ousted.
I would like to start the PMW Party. The mp's would have to be post menopausal women who tend to have more common sense than any other cohort in society, and a higher amount of not-giving-a-fuck about what other people think.

TeacupDrama · 10/12/2018 17:29

no one with brains or integrity goes into politics

I would like honest politicians even if I don't agree with them people who vote for what they stand for and told the electorate they stand for whether the party whip likes it or no; not selling their principles or suddenly being absent at crucial votes

You have to live in your area so no living in islington and standing for a safe seat in Liverpool or the cotswolds those more than 60/90 minutes commute can have weekly accomodation in London
where I live ( 70% of council are independents) so although I don't always agree with him I know him to see have his email address will speak to him in local post office so he maybe not the best but he is local and accountable

we need to get basics right before tinkering with the less important stuff,
living wage set a level that no one working 35+ 5 needs benefits
one simple tax system combine national insurance and income tax
everyone needs 35 years for a pension, you get credits when actively job seeking, SAHM until end of school year when youngest child is 7, sick etc, partial top up credits is working part-time until child is 12
housing build more 2-3 bedroom flat houses look at rental system so landlords not penalised for having social tenants
build bungalows near transport and the facilities so elderly can actually downsize conveniently freeing up family homes no elderly person wants a flat 3 floors up and half a mile walk to nearest shop doctors bus stop
Serious discussion on NHS what it does and doesn't provide as no bottomless pit it is absolutely not possible to continue in present form
Education stop keep changing things let teachers teach and have effective discipline so pupils can learn and stop silly rules about uniform
stop making new laws for the sake of it

TeacupDrama · 10/12/2018 17:32

or perhaps all MP's need to be 35 so have life experience of a real job etc no people that have just worked in politics all their lives moving from researcher to local government or unions to politics several politicians on all sides have no idea of real world

KissingInTheRain · 10/12/2018 17:33

True. But only deposed, or stepping down, for another emissary from planet Momentum.

lucydogz · 10/12/2018 17:34

Yes kissing there's also a chance of that...

CigarsofthePharoahs · 10/12/2018 17:37

I voted raving loony last time. It was them or Lord Buckethead. I'll have to find out where he stands on Brexit and self ID.
Not that it matters, I'm in the RT Hon Theresa Mays constituency.

KissingInTheRain · 10/12/2018 17:37

Teacup

I agree with that too.

PebbleDashed · 10/12/2018 18:27

There's Renew. I don't know anything about them beyond the name, they're new.

PebbleDashed · 10/12/2018 18:34

They are pro-EU, albeit aware of EU problems, and pro a second vote. www.renewparty.org.uk/brexit_and_britain_s_place_in_the_world

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/12/2018 18:41

YANBU, OP

Yet another homeless voter here ...

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 10/12/2018 18:50

I second Renew as well - seems that most people in that party have also had real jobs too.

PebbleDashed · 10/12/2018 18:52

There seems to be a couple of hints that Renew might listen to women as well. pg 5 of their blueprint refers to a Labour party hijacked by misogynists. One of their leaders is a women and there seem to be a number of women candidates. They've come on since I last looked at them, I think I'll go look some more.

Mishappening · 10/12/2018 18:59

They would not stand a chance - look what happened to the SDP. The FPTP system would kill them off. I have given up voting here - it is a Tory stronghold with a split opposition - why don't they get together and field one candidate? - madness!

WickedGoodDoge · 10/12/2018 19:07

I can’t stand the SNP in Scotland, but right now wish they ran the U.K. which makes no sense at all and is completely against everything they stand for. Grin

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 10/12/2018 19:56

I’ve thought this for a long time. How does one go about setting one up?

ciderinsideher · 10/12/2018 23:21

Thanks for the tip on Renew - never heard of them. But only useful if they stand candidates locally - if they can only afford or only have enough people to stand the odd candidate, they will have zero impact.

Loving lucydogz idea of the PMW - would vote for that! A proper matriarchy!

Agree about Corbyn but don't see him being easily ousted as the decent members who would have voted against him have all left in disgust, to be replaced by a bunch of ex-SWP, ex-Militant, anti-Semites.

Otherwise, I'm with Frazzy and keen to set one up or better have someone else set one up.

feesh · 11/12/2018 08:39

Didn’t that bloke from the Lib Dems miss a crucial Brexit vote because he was in meetings about setting up a new party?

PebbleDashed · 11/12/2018 20:37

There's a certain amount of inconsistency between 'will have zero impact if no local candidates' and 'no new party stands a chance in Britain because of FPTP' on the one hand and 'I want to start a new party' on the other.

Here you go though, but beware: it doesn't mention how much money or social networking is needed!
