To tell you about something life changing for HSBC customers?!

I paid some cheques in today .... via my phone! No need to trudge into town with angry DC, queue for ages, pay for extortionate parking !

Apparently they will cash overnight rather than the 3 working days of old too!

Lloyd’s do the same, but there’s a limit of £500 I think!

santababyconvertible · 09/12/2018 13:54

Limit of £750 a day with HSBC !

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/12/2018 13:54

How does that work?

brizzledrizzle · 09/12/2018 13:56

How is that life changing? I can't remember the last time I saw a cheque book let alone was given a cheque - I'm surprised that many banks still issue cheque books TBH; mine don't.

ElainaElephant · 09/12/2018 13:58

I'm not with HSBC, but I've been able to do that for a while with both the banks I use.

santababyconvertible · 09/12/2018 13:58

@ThroughThickAndThin01 you take photos of the cheque and upload them via the app to your chosen account, they are then processed electronically and get cashed quicker.

Shitlandpony · 09/12/2018 13:59

I had no idea- thank you for letting me know, I still get given lots of cheques.

santababyconvertible · 09/12/2018 13:59

@brizzledrizzle I've just cashed 15 cheques from Premium Bonds on the app, also cheques from elderly relatives especially at this time of year.

OP posts:
m0therofdragons · 09/12/2018 14:01

That's definitely life changing! Post Christmas we will have cheques. Thanks OP

NeverTwerkNaked · 09/12/2018 14:01

Do you have to take the original to the bank as well? Or can you just upload? I find it nearly impossible to get to the bank as I work through lunch in order to work around school hours!

DGRossetti · 09/12/2018 14:01

Tell Nationwide Sad

I can't put into words how much I detest cheques. Any trip to anywhere where there's a branch is out of our way and usually costs for parking.

santababyconvertible · 09/12/2018 14:02

@NeverTwerkNaked it does say to keep hold until you can see they have cashed on your online banking statements but then shred I suppose like normal. No need to send them in.

OP posts:
NeverTwerkNaked · 09/12/2018 14:03

Wow Santababy that’s awesome. I still get quite a few cheques from time to time and that is a huge help.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/12/2018 14:10

That’s really handy, thanks OP.

Fizzyhedgehog · 09/12/2018 14:23

Cheques?? I don't think I've used a cheque for 10 years...

cdtaylornats · 09/12/2018 14:24

santababy you know you can get premium bond wins paid straight into your bank account?

olympicsrock · 09/12/2018 14:26

It’s brilliant. I use the HSBC app to pay in cheques on my phone !

Gwenhwyfar · 09/12/2018 14:28

I thought you were already able to post them in and just sign the back?
I don't have trouble getting into town, just sometimes getting there when the bank's open so putting through the letterbox would be fine for me. (but now I'm wondering if there is a letterbox for the public).

santababyconvertible · 09/12/2018 14:33

@cdtaylornats I do but these were from someone else's account who is deceased so they have to be manually paid in.

Billben · 09/12/2018 14:36

Wow, I wonder if Barclays does this? We’ve got Christmas cheques and January and March birthday cheques and I always wait until the March ones arrive to make the trip to the bank to cash them in because it is such a pain.

mydogisthebest · 09/12/2018 14:39

Thank you so much for this post. DH gets quite a few cheques from customers and I usually get the job of having to go to nearest bank (6 miles away) and pay them in.

It is great too that they clear quicker. Paying them in is still 4 working days before clearing which really in this day and age is ridiculous

DGRossetti · 09/12/2018 14:42

I thought you were already able to post them in and just sign the back?

You can. Suppose the cheque gets "lost in the post" ?

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/12/2018 14:43

Halifax do it too. Not been to a branch for ages.

DGRossetti · 09/12/2018 14:44

Wow, I wonder if Barclays does this?

I think they were the pioneers ....

PhannyMcNee · 09/12/2018 14:46

Barclays do do it. If you have the banking app on your phone it should be there BUT mine wasn’t so I had to go into branch and they added it in less than a minute!
