What side is your hand soap ?

AIBU or is it a bit control freaky to move someone hand soap? A friend came round for a coffee and used the downstairs toilet. When I used it later on, I noticed the hand soap was on the wrong side.

I have an antibac pump hand soap, nothing fancy, but very easy to use, doesn't need picking up to operate. I have it on on the left, but she moved it the right hand side- this is weird behaviour right ?

Yes. You are weird. But each to his own

HappyEverIftar · 07/12/2018 17:43

Perfectly1mperfect yes! I suppose I must be Grin

MumW · 07/12/2018 17:46

Hmm, we live and work abroad and in this house the hand soap is on the left.

In our house in the UK it's on the right. Wonder what that says about me?

Don't know what it says but chez MumW, it's on the right in the downstairs cloakroom and on the left in the en-suite!

ToffeePennie · 07/12/2018 17:47

It’s not weird at all. She just has a preference for which hand she uses. I keep my downstairs soap on the left, in my kids bathroom it’s on the left, but in our ensuite its on the right.
This is mostly because our oldest son is left handed and finds it easier to pump into his left hand

Yellowbird54321 · 07/12/2018 17:48

snappedand farted well yes in that case what else can you do. I have obviously been very blinkered about sink / tap combo diversity Blush

MumW · 07/12/2018 17:49

And in the family bathroom - with a teenage girl there are a mountain of jars, bottles, bath bombs, make-up - it's wherever there's space.Grin

poppyseed2 · 07/12/2018 17:49

Ours is on the right. For a while I had a cleaner who would move it to the left each week, used to annoy me no end!

MistyMeena · 07/12/2018 17:50

Hmm ours is on the right downstairs and on the left upstairs 🤔

hohohobags · 07/12/2018 17:50

I've checked and all sinks including kitchen has soap on the left. I'm right handed so maybe I'm doing it wrong ?!

fibonaccisequins · 07/12/2018 17:53

Kitchen? Right as it fits with the tap/sink/draining board situation.
Bathroom? Left as I'm a leftie and get to be in charge of this!! One of the few things I'm not totally cack handed at using as it's designed for right handed people! But I'm not bitter Grin (seriously, me with scissors is great fun!!)
Agree with the rest - probably knocked it and plonked it down without thinking. If she's a leftie she maybe shifted it so she could pump with her dominant hand? That would be weird though Wink

dippledorus · 07/12/2018 17:53

Mine is on the right because there's a depression on the sink on that side. I would prefer it on the left. #awkward

brizzledrizzle · 07/12/2018 17:57

On the right, next to the toothpaste.

Eminybob · 07/12/2018 17:58

Mine moves, left, right, sometimes (Shock) on the window sill above the sink.
Although when I clean the sink I put it back in the middle, it somehow ends up elsewhere.

NonaGrey · 07/12/2018 17:58

Goodness me you are overthinking this!

QueenDoris · 07/12/2018 17:59

I did my PhD thesis on the placement of soap dispensers. It is a very interesting and complex subject

hohohobags · 07/12/2018 18:05

@QueenDoris ohhh did your research take into account which hand was used to pump or pick up the soap?

I'm going to have to observe myself later, as I'm not 100% sure what I do. I'm chain drinking tea so I can use the toilet again soon. I think I reach across to my left sided soap with my right hand. So the soap goes onto my left hand. I'm right handed btw.. Hmm

QueenDoris · 07/12/2018 18:09

@hohohobags it was entitled "The social-economic impact of soap dispenser placement within the confines of a downstairs bathroom" and looked at all aspects including which hand uses the pump, placement relative to taps, if mixer or separate taps had an impact and the impact of Brexit

hohohobags · 07/12/2018 18:13

@QueenDoris I hadn't previously considered whether my soap placement reflected my political stance.

OP posts:
ApolloandDaphne · 07/12/2018 18:13

QueenDoris. Was there any correlation between the side the soap dispenser is placed and voting preference in the referendum?

PerkingFaintly · 07/12/2018 18:22

Ah damn. I soo wanted to believe you there, QueenDoris.Grin

Alfie190 · 07/12/2018 18:22

Mine is on the right.

Montsti · 07/12/2018 18:24

Always on the left! I’m right-handed fwiw

wombatron · 07/12/2018 18:28

Downstairs it's a corner sink so it's on a corner shelf which means it's in the middle. At the kitchen sink it's on the left, and in the upstairs bathroom it's on the right. The hand towel holder in each area also matches the soap placement so I don't know what to think!!

QueenDoris · 07/12/2018 18:31

@hohohobags The Brexit bit i just lobbed in as I got extra funding from the Department of Pissing Away Public Money

@ApolloandDaphne interestingly the results of my survey showed that regardless of political leanings 100% of people responded with 'fuck off and mind your own business you weirdo".

ApolloandDaphne · 07/12/2018 18:31
