AIBU mums and sons

I've noticed this year lots of me and mini me outfits so matching mum and daughter outfits but nothing mum and son. I'm sure one mum out there would like a dress with matching shirts for her sons.
I love being a mum of boys but sometimes it feels like the commercial world wants you only to pair up with same sex children.
Ps - light hearted and my ds are too big to match me at Christmas now

There were some in Matalan!! Not exactly the same design obviously, but matching pattern blouse/shirts!

knittedjest · 07/12/2018 08:04

I think Norman Bates killed that dream for mothers and sons every where a long time ago when he took it a bit too far.

I do this by accident

I wash and dry in colours obviously and always seem to end up matching us to the point it's a little embarrassing

Please don't anyone make it easier for me

Roaring · 07/12/2018 08:23

Icall i do the same!

Hisaishi · 07/12/2018 08:31

It's a massive thing in Asia and has been for years.

We have entire family matching outfits (me, husband, daughter).

Friends in the west always ask if we were at a fancy dress party when they see it on insta and I always forget that it's not really a thing anywhere else and they probably think it's mad that we were just out shopping but just...in matching t-shirts/hats.

You see it in every combination: just couples, daughter-mum, daughter-dad, son-mum, son-daughter, siblings, entire families.

I used to be cool when I lived in the UK, but Asia will knock any notion of coolness out of you. My dog wears clothes and I have matching couple jumpers with my husband and I wear stupid hats with moving rabbit ears on them.

I can never come home.

IrmaFayLear · 07/12/2018 08:45

You know, I think this will catch on. I have seen "family outfits" for sale (can't remember which shop) and for a bit of a laugh at Christmas I'd do it (not sure about the teens, though...).

As for "mini me" outfits the rest of the year... er, no. Cutesy is embarrassing.

There’s matching dress and shirts in George at Asda at the moment :)

NewishMum85 · 07/12/2018 09:32

Ha ha I had completely forgotten about Motherboy 😆

FishFingersAndCustard11 · 07/12/2018 09:40

There are matching pyjamas for the whole family in Asda. They're all the same outfit but the one for the father says 'daddy Claus', the one for the mum says 'mummy Claus' etc.

Also I've dressed my daughter in boys pyjamas so she's matching with her dad. The boys pyjamas are pretty unisex, there's nothing about them to say they aren't suitable for girls!

Thurmanmurman · 07/12/2018 09:41

But a few mums and sons wanting it is not a big enough market. My 6 year old DS is very much a mummy’s boy but would be horrified at wearing the same clothes as me. DD, aged 8 loves our matching Christmas dresses though!

user1484424013 · 07/12/2018 09:49

Creepy on both sides

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 07/12/2018 09:52

I'm sure there is nothing more my teenage son's want than to wear matching clothes with me. That's all their Christmas presents sorted.

I can just imagine the glee on their faces when they realise they get to look identical to their loving mummy. Grin

EmmaJR1 · 07/12/2018 10:02

I've got Mr elf/Mrs elf/2x elf in training tops for Christmas Day- M&co!

Lazybonita · 07/12/2018 10:04

It’s cheesy as hell but my boys and I all have matching pj’s for Christmas Eve. With sloths on! They are very excited. DH could have been matching too but for some reason chose not to... (There will be no social media posts).

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 07/12/2018 10:04

If you're dressing to match your child there is something wrong with you. It's as bad as dressing children in matching clothes.

It doesn't look cute, it looks silly and ridiculous.

Literally came here to post the Motherboy picture Grin

"It doesn't look cute, it looks silly and ridiculous."

Would love to know what you wear that is so amazing. Must be something quite special to be able to pass judgement so succinctly.

My 4yr old DS thinks matching with his mum is the best thing ever! I suspect he'll very quickly grow out of that though :)

I've found a tops in Matalan that are a matching pair but they're a bit crappy and a bit meh compared to the mum and daughter stuff.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone. Very fitting username judging by your post. Why would you think there is something wrong with people having a bit of fun with their children with matching Christmas outfits once a year?
