He made DS a peanut butter sandwich and put a thick layer of butter on the bread first

It's not just me is it? That's weird to the point of perversity. What kind of freak would do that?

DS very sensibly refused to have anything to do with said sandwich. I was cross at the waste but not at DS.

Peanut butter, real butter, and honey. Sammie of the Gods.

I thought everyone knew you need a think layer of banana or strawberry jam before the peanut butter.

My youngest DS always asks for his sandwiches to be "cheese and butter" or "egg and (mayo) butter". He doesn't understand that butter is the norm in sandwiches, so you don't need to ask for it. He hates mayonnaise but has not figured out that his favourite sandwiches are not egg and butter but egg mayo.
As for butter with peanut butter. Why add another oily substance when PB is full of natural fats anyway?

No way does PB require any other fat. It has peanut oil in it.

You can add jam though. (Or as it is known in the US 'jelly'). Or mashed banana.

Best is 'grape jelly', though blackcurrant jam would also be good.

it’s not a peanut butter butter sandwich

I fear it's even worse than you thought - as the OP nowhere states that her DH only butters one slice of the bread, we can sadly only conclude that it must actually be a butter peanut butter butter sandwich.

Oh, the huuuuuumanity.......

Not only does PB need butter, it needs to be unsalted butter.

Thick butter with mild grated cheddar in a cheese sandwich is a true abomination. Horrible textures.

@1MillionSelfiesTakenByMyKids you have to have butter with peanut butter, makes your mouth all dry otherwise! I'm with your DH on this one!

Dd doesn’t like butter on her bread. She’s the same with any filling even with something as dry as ham.

I'm not a butter fan unless it's just plain toast.
All my sandwiches have different dressings to stop them being dry without needing butter.
😳 I have cheese with my peanut butter to stop it being so dry. The calories, I don't even want to know.

OMG. All this 'peanut butter doesn't require...' nonsense! Since when was it about requiring? Your chocolate fudge cake doesn't require a dollop of ice cream on the side- it's already got plenty of sugar in it. Your roast dinner doesn't require yorkshire puddings as well as roast potatoes - it's already got plenty of carbs and fat in it.

You object to butter but would add honey or jam?? Now that is truly vile.

Peanut butter does not have butter in it, you need to butter the toast first.
