To not understand why 'incels' attract such a lack of empathy on here?!

Let's start with defining an incel

  • A man or woman who has trouble forming a romantic or sexual relationship with another person for any reason.

What it doesn't necessarily mean is that they use prostitutes, are creepy or socially awkward.

Many are just shy people who lack self esteem.

Some are highly successful, outgoing and friendly people who just freeze up when it comes to expressing themselves or their feelings to others in a romantic context.

I know of many many and women who this applies to - lovely people and to see the comments on here directed towards them is outrageous in some threads.

Why can't people understand that some people just aren't lucky when it comes to relationships?

Why are people still slagging off the OP? She admitted she'd got it wrong (or at least only had the original definition ).

Butcowsdontgetmarried · 07/12/2018 07:38

Damn it, came here for a bun fight, found out that not only had OP got the wrong end of the stick but also had acknowledged that several times, and got myself an education on the origin of the word Incel which I didn’t know! Fascinating. Just shows that it’s worth asking the question sometimes and having a bit of a chat about it.
And yet there are people still posting “why didn’t you google what it meant” well there’s a bit more value in a grown up q & a where both sides interact, isn’t there?

DarklyDreamingDexter · 07/12/2018 07:50

Butcow If the OP had done a tiny bit of googling first on the word 'incel' she would no doubt have phrased her post differently and the discussion would have been somewhat different. As it is, using this loaded term has not really delivered the discussion the OP was hoping for, has it? Another lesson learned!

Zfactorstar · 07/12/2018 07:52

Fun fact, the person who invented the term incel was a lesbian going through a rough dry spell. Understandably, she has been appalled by how it got hijacked.

TheSilentLamb · 07/12/2018 08:27

The discussion wouldn't have existed if I had done some research yes! I have admitted that numerous times.....But let's be fair. I was right in my definition if using the original spirit of the term.

This is the same as any other poor person who hasn't kept up to date with what is currently politically correct language who gets pilloried for using a word which was previously acceptable. Give me a break!

Maybe just report and delete seeing as I got it wrong?

OP don't worry about it.

Remember most of what is posted on FWR is for the lurkers, this is a prime example. Scratch the surface and what is actually underneath is a horror show.

"Maybe just report and delete seeing as I got it wrong?"

No, don't do that, Op.

If only the people now posting that you should have used Google had themselves taken the time to read all your comments...!

^ This! It's the trouble with people not RTFT, even when an Op accepts they may have been incorrect or had misunderstood something you still get people on page 20 coming out with 'you're wrong that's not what it is and you need to educate yourself' type comments.

Glad you've been given some clarity Op. Only venture to the incel boards of reddit if you have a strong stomach, some of it is incredibly shocking to read. I've read it to my DP before who was adamant at first it had to be some sort of twisted satire because he struggled to believe people would post like that seriously.

Butcowsdontgetmarried · 07/12/2018 19:40

Oh good. I make a point about how daft it is that some posters are banging on about “why didn’t you google it” and immediately someone posts “but she should have googled it”.

It’s AIBU to “why didn’t you know something that you didn’t know before someone answered the question you just asked, why, why, why”

Butcowsdontgetmarried · 07/12/2018 19:42

It’s AIBU *not
