To think this school Dad doesn't need to wear body armour for the school run?!

Just that really. He commented that 'it keeps him warm' but it looks like metal! He also has it showing through his zip quite openly rather than zipping his coat to the top! It wouldn't protect him in event if being stabbed because you can see where it is (and therefore where to avoid). Could there be some logic I am not considering or would you expect it's a mental health/general oddball thing? (Not saying the two are the same!)

You don’t mean under armour? A brand of base layer and sports stuff. Actual armour??!

Elfinablender · 06/12/2018 19:05

Like a stab vest or like a ye olde knight?

BellsAreRinging1 · 06/12/2018 19:07

Kind of like this but it looks thicker and more like metal. Military DH said it's a stab/bullet proof vest.

In case anyone is wondering, this is a white man, quite alternative, potentially a white supremacist style character though that's just how I would cast him in a role for example based on how he comes across rather than based on facts.

Depends where you live, east end of Glasgow HINBU. Milngavie HIBU.

UhUhUhDennis · 06/12/2018 19:08

Where do you live roughly OP?

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 06/12/2018 19:09

Maybe he's got a contract out on him.

Nicknacky · 06/12/2018 19:09

Hmmmm I know of certain types of men who have been known to wear body armour. There is usually attempts on their life at some point!

Sethis · 06/12/2018 19:09

Nutter. Unless he's about to go on shift as riot police or a bouncer, he's just trying to show how hard he is. Bit sad, really.

littleducks · 06/12/2018 19:10

Are you sure it's not a weighted vest. I saw a guy running and it looked like a bullet proof vest I was very confused til I saw my friend doing sports in same thing and realised it was weighted to make you burn more calories.

BellsAreRinging1 · 06/12/2018 19:10

In a small seaside town north England, no troubles with major violence and it's rare when things happen and big news. Crime rate isn't great but attacks/murders & knife/gang crime is pretty much unheard of. X

I don't mean that in a funny way, my sisters neighbour who was really nice or so we thought turned out to be a major player in a gangland feud.

LemonRedwood · 06/12/2018 19:11

If it's my school it's probably sensible. I think staff should be provided with them alongside their ID badges and whiteboard pens.

only half-joking and I work in primary

NancyJoan · 06/12/2018 19:11

How odd. We have hardly any Dads at our school gate, and none of them wear armour. Feel a bit sad about that now.

LilMadAgain · 06/12/2018 19:12

Is he likely to hurt himself or someone else op? If not than YABU and nosey. Maybe he thinks your coat/shoes/hat are ridiculous?.

Anythingforacatslife · 06/12/2018 19:12

If I saw this, I would imagine he leads the sort of lifestyle which might mean he needs such protection and probably not walk out of the school gates next to him!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 06/12/2018 19:13

Maybe he's just got a new kitten at home and is trying to avoid their bastard needle claws drawing blood

Abouttime1978 · 06/12/2018 19:13

It might be a weighted vest. Those who do cross fit often have them to make work outs more difficult - so there is a possible explanation

RangeRider · 06/12/2018 19:13

Could be an autistic weighted vest?

BellsAreRinging1 · 06/12/2018 19:13

Someone commented that 'the kids won't attack him' and he just said that it keep him warm. He is not a runner or into fitness from what I know of him and he's worn in daily for 3 days. He's a labourer buy unemployed with 3 kids. He walks with his girlfriend who is pushing a pram, they are dressed normally.

Nicknacky · 06/12/2018 19:14

I do crossfit and yes, there is weighted vests but I have never known even the hardcore to wear them when just normally walking about.

UhUhUhDennis · 06/12/2018 19:15

I imagine he's into drug dealing. Like a lot if unemployed people these days sadly.

Eilaianne · 06/12/2018 19:18

I would assume a weighted fitness vest OR involved in drugs/gangs if I saw this in some places I've lived.

user139328237 · 06/12/2018 19:18

No drug dealer will be walking with kids though. Could be a weighted vest for sensory reasons).

BellsAreRinging1 · 06/12/2018 19:19

@RangeRider

Perhaps? What would that look like? He has pens attached to it like a utility vest.

He's a carpenter by trade so dresses that way generally though doesn't really get much work. He did some work for us last year so I have a bit more of an insight into him. He wanted more money after completing a job, sent demanding texts and out notes through the door but then avoided my husband when he tried to speak to him so he might fancy himself as a hard man but he definitely isn't.

It's the fact that if I had reason to wear such a vest, I would zip my coat right up or hide it. He seems to want it on show which I find bizarre and unnerving(i've started wondering if he's planning on doing something sinister and trying hard to keep my anxiety low!!!).

Of course drug dealers walk with kids. We had an organised crime group member gunned down outside his kids school in Glasgow not that long ago
