My friend, who has recently passed her driving test, sent me this photo asking me how she should have navigated this roundabout.

I replied with what I thought but now after looking again I've got myself all confused.
I'd like to think I'd know the correct route if driving it in person, but it does seem confusing.

She is the blue line and she needs to get to the red exit.

Any thoughts?

Pp said tg9ey funnel out, but what about new entries while you're going around

no one should be entering to the side of you when going around Hmm they have to give way to you.

I hope you don't just drive straight on to roundabouts? you know you should give way to traffic from the right, right?

pilcrow I know that one in Hemel, I am terrified of it Grin

Magic roundabout just looks like a series of mini roundabouts on a road that goes in a circle and isnt really a roundabout.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Stairfoot roundabout in Barnsley. So bloody awful that there is a song on YouTube about it

A couple of people looking at op roundabout have mentioned starting in inside lane to go straight on or go right. You'll cause an accident!
Thr on road markings make it clear that lanes 1 and 2 are left turn only.
If you try to go straight you'll get a car to your right quite correctly following the lane markings driving into the side of you!

With complicated roundabouts, you have to observe the lane arrows

The Magic Roundabout in Colchester is horrific! Anything else is a piece of cake in comparison! 5 small roundabouts that form 1 massive roundabout, and you can go in either direction ShockShockShock

Pilcrow · 09/12/2018 08:59

Ellie, it's really fine, you just have to ignore all the other roundabouts and treat the one you're currently navigating as a normal roundabout subject to all the usual road rules. The problems come when other drivers suddenly do something unpredictable.....I've had many a near-miss because someone randomly decides to whizz straight out in front of me when it's my right of way!

Taking it carefully, anticipating and being super-watchful is the key, I think.

I don’t mind Hangar Lane. A friend who has lived in London all her life and has driven there since she was 17 and is in no way a nervous driver absolutely hate it though.

@user1471462428 I live near stairfoot roundabout so use it regularly and I still can’t work out which lane I need to be in when I’m on it coming from Worsbrough/Aldi towards Tesco. I try a different one each time and still end up in the wrong place. I can do every other exit fine 🙄

I don’t mind Hanger Lane, I know my lanes now (Ikea addict) and stick to them.

There’s aroundabout in the way into Staines that completely confuses me, I can’t ever work out the right lane and always take the wrong exit towards Hounslow rather than Sunbury.
