And would you recommend?

Ours has faults that are not financially worth fixing so thinking of upgrading to something reliable and with a decent size boot.

2014 Qashqai. Hate it. No power. Boot far too small (well it's an odd shape so can't fit much in). Now the kids are teens, it is far too cramped in the rear. Blind spots all over the place. I just don't feel I can trust it.

bridgetreilly · 06/12/2018 08:41

8 year old Corsa. About 56000 miles. Never had a moment's trouble with it. It's had new tyres due to age, but that's it, pretty much.

VW Passat
Third one I’ve owned
My previous one is still being used by DP it’s 16 years old has done over 250,000 miles and last month passed MOT with no work needed

Audi A3 Quattro S-Line 2L ‘11 plate
Cracking car, goes like shit off a shovel, very comfortable for normal people I’m told (I have back and knee and hip problems so it’s too low for me now), relatively good on fuel with a huge boot and looks lovely. We have had a few mechanical problems with it tho, and iys currently in the garage again, and we’ll be selling it once it’s out.
Mitsubishi L200 Warrior, ‘10 plate.
I love it so much I can’t even tell you, but judging by your requirements/budget etc, it’s not something I’d recommend for you.

We have a Kia Sportage. It's really nice to drive and spacious too. We need to replace our second car at some point in the not too distant future so reading the replies with interest!

BikeRunSki · 06/12/2018 08:49

Golf Estate. Love it. Will be replacing with a younger model next year. It’s a company car, so I have to change ever 4.5 years, but there’s nothing wrong with it. Great size - not too big, not too small. It’s a diesel and very economic.

nutellalove · 06/12/2018 09:03

Vauxhall corsa 2008 model. 10 years, still going strong (touchwood). Haven't needed to replace anything in those 10 years besides the air con system once. And It's driven a lot.

newcarsmells · 06/12/2018 09:59

Not in London and would only be able to stretch the budget a few £100. The Kia Sportage looks popular so far...

I have a Citroen Ds3 and I absolutely love it. It’s got custom decals and a soft top and it’s so much fun to drive. I am very precious about this car because I love it like a child. It’s a massive step up from what I had before (2002 very bashed Nissan Micra that I learned to drive in and adored so was reluctant to upgrade until this year 😂) and it has a lot of power for a small car, easy to park, roomy interior. However, the boot is the size of a postage stamp. I think the model without the soft top has a proper boot but mine is like a weird little hatch that I have to cram my groceries into. It’s fine for me but if you need to prioritise boot space then I wouldn’t recommend it for that.

Mini Countryman hybrid, its brilliant.

TheRattleBag · 06/12/2018 12:37

@elQuintoConyo I had a 1998 Saab 95 and absolutely loved it. It died on the A1 one day and I still salute it whenever I go past the spot.

I now have a 58 plate 95 and love that too ( not quite as much as red Saab, but don't tell it!)

Popsicle434544 · 06/12/2018 12:51

I have a ford mondeo titanium, huge boot, huge amount of space throughout and great on fuel

AdamNichol · 06/12/2018 12:55

2007 Ford Focus. Comfy, bombproof reliability, bit heavy handling, quite noisy by newer car standards (though is over 100k mark now)

2012 Ecoboost Focus - lithe, fast, comfy, quiet. Our particular ecoboost Focus - riddled with recurring intermittent faults and ate it's coolant system on multiple occasions...so replaced with...

2018 Nissan Qashqi - I don't like cars (I'm a biker). I like this car. Comfy, loaded with useful goodies.

@domtom DH loves his Mazda 2. His is 10 year old and has done over 100,000 miles. We were beginning to worry that it was 'getting to that age' but garage bills have been minimal and they said it's got loads of life left in it yet. It's also loads of fun to drive. The plan when replacing mine was to get the CX5 but budget said no.

Bluearsedfly36 · 06/12/2018 13:28

I have 2014 Vauxhall Zafira, got it in March for £6500. Love it, it's a 1.7 diesel and is very good on fuel.

Bluearsedfly36 · 06/12/2018 13:31

Before that I had a 2003 Skoda Octavia but I have 4 children now and needed the 7 seats. I loved that car, it was a 1.9 diesel and cost nothing to run. Would definitely recommend Skodas.
