And would you recommend?

Ours has faults that are not financially worth fixing so thinking of upgrading to something reliable and with a decent size boot.

A 1998 Saab 93.

I'll get my coat Sad

I have a bright red Vauxhall Meriva! I absolutely love it! I went from a tiny KA to this, and loving all of the extra room! Once the money from my divorce comes through, next year (hopefully!) I'm going to get myself a Kia Sportage!

SoupDragon · 06/12/2018 08:10

2010 Ford SMax. I love it and it's been really good.

This summer I got rid of my 11 year old clapped out seat Ibiza for a three year old Nissan note. I was on a budget but For a super mini it's an amazing use of space and you seemed to get a lot for your money. I have to cart a lot of kit for work and the boot is huge and the back seats can be pushed forward to make it slightly bigger. I can have a rear facing car seat AND 6ft2 DH can still sit in the front passenger seat. In my previous car no one could sit in the front. Nice luxuries like sat nav and DAB radio. £20 road tax compared to the £140odd I was paying. And it's so much more economical. In my Ibiza I was lucky to get 300mile from £55 worth of petrol. Now a full tank (usually about £40) will get me near 400 mile

SoupDragon · 06/12/2018 08:11

Had it for new and it's far better than the similarly aged Renault Laguna I traded in for it.

AmIAWeed · 06/12/2018 08:11

Shogun, best car ever.
Tows brilliantly, 7 seater, when back 2 seats are down we can fit the lintrans in for the dogs, I can easily pull off the road on the many single track roads without worry of getting stuck.
We have 1 that is 10 years old and picking up another this weekend that's 1 year old simply because they have stopped making them.
If you want a car that will do and go anywhere, you can Chuck dogs, boots galore in and wipe down without being concerned about faffy shiny plastic it's the car for you.

Doje · 06/12/2018 08:12

I've got a second hand Ford Focus. An 09 plate so almost 10 years old. I love it. No problems with MOTs. 5 seats, decent sized boot and I feel safe in it on the motorway with the DC's.

junecat · 06/12/2018 08:14

Mini Countryman, 5 years old. Never had any problems except new brake pads & tyres. Love it :)

Governoress86 · 06/12/2018 08:15

I have a 2001 Renault Clio . It's my first car as I only passed my test in September . It's the right car for me at the moment and is reliable.

My partner had a 2001 honda CRV . He likes his old 4x4 and he loves his car.

I thought I would prefer smaller cars but my next car is going to be a 4x4 and automatic.

PoisonousSmurf · 06/12/2018 08:16

I have a Mazda 3 Takara 1.6 (2008). So far it's been the most reliable car that I've ever owned and I've been driving for over 30 years!
Boot space is big enough, but then it's only a hatchback.

RTFT · 06/12/2018 08:18

2017 Qashqai Tekna and it's a bag of shite, so many problems. It's so bad that Nissan have agreed to pay all money back + deposit and folding the pcp agreement

Allyg1185 · 06/12/2018 08:19

We have a 08 plate Seat Leon which is a sturdy car and has never failed an MOT. And a 12 plate Honda Crv which is a big roomy car with good boot space we tow a van with this one

sijjy · 06/12/2018 08:19

I had a Peugeot 308 until June this year. Big enough for my 3 kids. Although only have one in a car seat. And the boot was big enough for everything. Had no problems with it at all and it was a 2008 plate. Have now got a Astra 64 plate. Still big enough for my 3 kids with plenty of boot space. Both had a smaller middle seat though so fitting 2 teenagers in the back and a boaster seat is a bit of a squeeze.

domton · 06/12/2018 08:20

I have a mazda 2. Boot is probably too small for you, but a shout out for mazdas in the reliability stakes. 6 years old, 98,000 on the clock, never broken down, never failed to start, only tyres and lights on MOTs, but a few advisories on this once wench will cost about £300, but fab since it's nearly gone around the clock.

Before that I had a 14 year old mazda 323, 140,000 on the clock, but i scrapped it because body work needed £800 worth of welding. I had it 5 years never cost me a penny on MOTs until that one. The engine was still relatively sound for the age and mirage!

I'm going to buy another mazda when this dirs, they have been uber-reliable for me. Worth thinking about a mazda 3 perhaps for a bigger boot or mazda 6 for a big family car.

PoisonousSmurf · 06/12/2018 08:20

@ElQuintoConyo Ah! I love SAAB. Had a few 900 models back in the 90s and early 2000s. Loved the 'wolf in sheeps clothing' feeling it gave me. Looks boring on the outside, but a real rocket under the bonnet!
Well, I did have the souped up versions.
My best one was 1984, all white, even the wheels.

sijjy · 06/12/2018 08:21

My husband has just got a Peugeot 2008 after having a Citroen ds4. The kids hated the ds4 as no room in the back at all. They all love the new Peugeot as it has 3 individual seats in the back and the boot is big.

blueskiesandforests · 06/12/2018 08:21

It's not what I have now, but my favourite big booted car was a Renault Megane estate - I could fit my enormous triple buggy in the boot and 3 babies/ small toddlers when I was a childminder :o

Jojobythesea · 06/12/2018 08:24

Volvo V40 cross country. Great boot size, economical, good space inside, quality all around. Love it.

tiggerbounce77 · 06/12/2018 08:24

Ford Kuga on a 13 plate, fantastic car, absolutely love it

RedDwarves · 06/12/2018 08:29

Kia Cerato.

Would not consider owning anything other than a Japanese or South Korean car.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 06/12/2018 08:30

Skoda Karoq. Really comfortable, spacious and you can remove the back seats altogether if you need to. It’s the smaller sister of the Kodiaq.

Whatjusthappenedthere · 06/12/2018 08:31

Skoda Octavia . Have had Audi’s, but switched to Skoda for the finances. Not disappointed. Boot is massive. Have also had a Ford Mondao estate for our camping days. Loved that too.

hiddenmnetter · 06/12/2018 08:31

At £7,000 are you in London? Do the ULEZ rules concern you?

Moominfan · 06/12/2018 08:35

Suzuki celerio feels like a shed but first car and cheap to insure

Newsername · 06/12/2018 08:35

Toyota verso. Really spacious with 7 seats, looks sleek on the outside and great drive. I have an automatic and it’s the best car I’ve had so far.
