To hage thought PETA were a serious organisation?

Went on twitter and saw this

twitter.com/peta/status/1070066047414345729?s=21

and it's just a long line of tweets from them that seem to go viral from time to time. Surely this just undermines real discriminatory language?

But some of the comments are brilliant

Onemorefireball · 05/12/2018 15:42

But I love feed two birds with one scone!

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 05/12/2018 15:47

Have and the latest in a long line* FFS and I liked the reply with the best time to delete picture and pointing out that feeding a bird a scone is a bad idea one.

I'm vegan but that's a bit OTT.

It reminds me of this:

TwistedStitch · 05/12/2018 15:50

They recently wrote to the parish council of the village of Wool to request they change their name to Vegan Wool.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 05/12/2018 15:50

They seem to have gone the way of Stobewall where they started with good intentions but have lost what their focus should be.

I’ve seen a number of veggie acquaintances on FB/Twitter giving out that this type of stunt is what gives vegetarians and vegans a rep of being holier-than-thou.

AmericanEskimoDoge · 05/12/2018 16:04

I've only ever heard people comment on how bonkers they are-- a total joke, in other words. It's hard to believe even they take much of what they say seriously...

They give the impression that they care more about themselves (being the center of attention) than helping animals. They'd be more effective if they took a more measured approach.

Llanali · 05/12/2018 16:10

They are a hateful organization, a group of terrorists under a barely legal veneer of political activism.

TemptressofWaikiki · 05/12/2018 16:11

I will never support PETA. They are utter, hypocritical scum. Instead, I support genuine animal rescue organisations.

ALoadOfCodswallop · 05/12/2018 16:11

PETA are probably the worst people in the world, and that's saying something these days. they are probably the charity who is furest away from how they present themselves in public. They want every one to think they are do gooders trying to make animals lives better when in fact they kill over 90% of animals donated to their "re homing" shelters. Kidnap family pets and put them to sleep claiming they are strays. They want all dogs and cats to be neutered so that the animals die out, and regularly provide legal funding to people who have committed arson and terrorism acts.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 05/12/2018 16:15

PETA have never been a "serious" organisation.

MeredithGrey1 · 05/12/2018 16:15

You’re right, I think to equate the phrase “be a guinea pig” with racist and homophobic language is completely ridiculous.

Oysterbabe · 05/12/2018 16:21

The comments are very funny.

Nice work. You gave everyone a good laugh while simultaneously damaged your cause. You really fed two bird with one scone on this one.

Anniversarysavings · 05/12/2018 16:30

In my experience even those in the animal rescue / vegan / vegetarian type crowd think they are nuts and full of bullshit.

Never have been an animal welfare organisation, and the articles they release are often false and some are the result of their “reporters” encouraging or persuading people to commit atrocities to the animals they claim to be trying to protect.

Even their claims about farming are ridiculous - there was a picture a while ago showing a sheep badly mutilated after shearing with the claim it was normal for them to be left in that state, if someone tried to shear a farmers sheep and left them in that state they would be out of business and paying for damages before they had a chance to leave the area. It’s all laughable really and I would be surprised if anybody took them seriously anymore.

Valanice1989 · 05/12/2018 16:33

Yes, Codswallop - PETA tried to claim that they have to put cats and dogs down because they take in the "unadoptable" ones that the other shelters turn away. However, PETA have mysteriously refused to answer the question of what they actually do to try to find owners for those animals. Several of their former employees have confirmed that they've seen healthy animals put down. It just seems impossible that such a high-profile organisation would be incapable of finding homes for more than 5% of their rescue animals.

Pachyderm1 · 05/12/2018 16:36

They are horribly misogynistic!

Oysterbabe · 05/12/2018 17:55

I've just been reading about the number of animals they kill, including the family pets they have stolen and immediately killed. Basically because they think pet ownership is slavery. Bizarre.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 05/12/2018 20:23

Wool is my next door village, the letter they sent caused much amusement and the follow up one when the parish council refused to put the topic on the agenda

Huntawaymama · 05/12/2018 20:33

Can't stand Peta, their stance on so many things is so sos wrong and does my head in

BeachtheButler · 05/12/2018 20:37

PETA is a joke. It's got a lot of celebs to support it and pull stunts like this, but I'm not sure what it's actually done for the benefit of animals. The RSPCA gets a lot of flack but at the end of the day it does do something. I'd the Blue Cross/PDSA beat both of them IMO.

BeachtheButler · 05/12/2018 20:38

I'd say the Blue Cross/PDSA beats both of them

Fatasfook · 05/12/2018 20:42

They are lunatics

Fatasfook · 05/12/2018 20:44

Why does PETA kill cats and dogs by the thousands instead of finding them homes? Simply, PETA does not believe in pet ownership. Ingrid Newkirk has called pet ownership “an abysmal situation.” She further elaborated on her goal for destroying the human-pet bond: “If people want toys, they should buy inanimate objects. If they want companionship, they should seek it with their own kind.”

“In the end, I think it would be lovely if we stopped this whole notion of pets altogether,” she has said.

Ridiculously, PETA has argued that outdoor cats should be summarily killed instead of allowed to live. In a 2014 interview with the Washington Post, Newkirk argued that outdoor cats would be better off dead because they might contract a future illness or be hit by a car in the future. In PETA’s twisted mind, it’s more humane to just euthanize the animals than for a hypothetical harm to befall them in the future. Similarly, PETA has also argued in court that elephants are better off being killed than living in American zoos where they are well cared for.

PETA’s pro-killing attitude is part of its core—and it should shock any animal lover.

Didn't they recently have a campaign to get every Staffordshire bull terrier put down? Shock
