£40 on a cheesecake??!

AIBU to be willing to pay this for a cheesecake all for myself at Christmas?? I have slices often and it’s genuinely the best thing I’ve ever tasted (I have a massive sweet tooth). It’s baked by a boutique Italian bakery near me - bit overpriced but so is everything in the area. I didn’t expect it to be that much and it sounds ridiculous but.... I’m tempted!

I’ll be spending Christmas alone (my choice) as DP goes to in-laws and I’ll be eating poached Salmon and potatoes (my fav meal) but means I won’t be going all-out with turkey/stuffing/alcohol etc (I don’t drink).

Should I treat myself??? Grin

YABVU to not include the name and location of the bakery! :D

Cutesbabasmummy · 04/12/2018 14:09

Just to add: yes OP, Do It!

gaggiagirl · 04/12/2018 14:10

Can you tell me more about the cheesecake OP? Is it like a new York baked style? It looks amazing! Naturally you should go for it!

kmc1111 · 04/12/2018 14:12

I’d just buy a few slices. I love cheesecake and have a huge sweet tooth, but proper cheesecake is one of those foods that’s so rich and heavy it’s very easy to turn yourself of it by overeating.

That also doesn’t look like it would freeze as well as Polish cheesecake does.

Bluetrews25 · 04/12/2018 14:14

Why not see if you can negotiate a discount for buying a whole one?
If you get a whole one, you will see the box / manufacturer, so may be able to let the rest of us know where they are made.....

Why is your DP deserting you to go to ILs? Do you not get on with them? Why does he not want to be with you?

Magicstar1 · 04/12/2018 14:16

Why not! Freeze half of it in slices and enjoy it at your leisure.

What flavour is it?

StarBurstx · 04/12/2018 14:17

Do it - I would! I adore cheesecake and that looks amazing! Enjoy

RangeRider · 04/12/2018 14:17

Only if you'll eat it all before it goes manky. Which is about two days max for a good one.
Cheesecake lasts more than a day?! And there was me forcing it down quickly to not waste it...

PinkHeart5914 · 04/12/2018 14:21

If you can afford it, why the hell not? Life is for treating yourself

I’d freeze say half though as it would be a shame to waste it if you don’t eat it all in about the 2 days before it’s no good. Imo even a decent cheesecake lasts 2 days max

JennyOnAPlate · 04/12/2018 14:22

Do it do it do it!

RibbonAurora · 04/12/2018 14:24

xRe the freezing, be sure it hasn't been frozen and defrosted by the store already. We buy a whole gourmet cheesecake to take to inlaws at NY, we always buy it frozen from the store, so, over an 8 hour drive, it's defrosted by the time we get there. You're very lucky to have a whole one to yourself, I never get more than a slice out of the ones we buy because DH's family are numerous and possibly willing to shed blood over any remaining slices after we've all had a piece.

HollowTalk · 04/12/2018 14:24

I'd go for it, but why isn't your partner spending Christmas with you?

thinkful · 04/12/2018 14:25

It looks yummy!

If you can buy half then I'd do that else treat yourself, buy it and maybe freeze some or save some for your DP.

FrenchJunebug · 04/12/2018 14:25

absolutely do it! You need to treat yourself.

BlytheSpirits · 04/12/2018 14:28

I'm not as big a fan of cheesecake as you, so I'd go for the 3 slices option and spend the rest of the money elsewhere, but freezing it for later is a good idea as well.

oh4forkssake · 04/12/2018 14:32

Do it Grin

You deserve that treat!

secondarymincepie · 04/12/2018 14:33

Do it. An entire cheesecake is my idea of heaven and I could easily get through it before I got sick of it. This is going to be my first Christmas alone after a breakup and now I feel inspired - I can eat literally whatever I want and won't have to share it with a smelly man Grin

DrinkingTeaLikeTonyBenn · 04/12/2018 14:38

Many people wouldn't bat an eyelid at spending £40 on a night or two out. That delicious looking cheesecake will give you many instances of festive cheer Smile

Tartyflette · 04/12/2018 14:54

God yes. Any chance the bakery would part with the recipe?

Merrychristmasyoufilthyanimals · 04/12/2018 14:56

this so reminds me of the rachel and chandler episode on friends

19lottie82 · 04/12/2018 14:56

Is anyone else thinking of that episode from Friends? Grin just tuck in with a fork, rather than cutting it into slices!

19lottie82 · 04/12/2018 14:57

Cross post with merry!

VisitorsEntrance · 04/12/2018 15:13

Sweet baby cheeses that is a big cake.

Could you just buy half?

Historydweeb · 04/12/2018 15:19

Wow!!
That's definitely your money's worth though, I'm in awe. I bet that's going to taste delicious 😂😂 I'd probably have it instead of Christmas dinner

Merrychristmasyoufilthyanimals · 04/12/2018 15:22

hahaha 19lottie
