O come all ye faithful is such a lovely carol - isn't it most people's favourite?

No, it's a bit of a dirge IMO

Something lovely (Christmas) was turned into something tacky quite a few years ago OP
some people enjoy over spending and bright lights and too much too drink.

Others like quiet prayer, a few candles, bit of natural pine smell and gifting home made cushion covers.

I'm a Christian but recognise not everyone is, and Christmas means different things to different people.

For some they will be drowning out memories of crap childhood Christmas's with vast amounts of prosecco. I can't get offended or judge people for that anymore than how they choose to spend their summer holiday.

GobbyMcGobshite · 04/12/2018 18:20

I literally don't know 1 person who celebrates Christmas because they're religious

It is not the birth of Christ

It has nothing to do with 'Jesus' or 'mary' or 'joseph' or any other fictional character

It's just a time to be with family and have a laugh/drink/give presents to the kiddies

I can't believe you're getting so irate over a play on words on a card for a holiday that you're celebrating for a reason that has been proven not to be true - Christ was not born at Christmas

Get over yourself and let people be merry you Scrooge

HippoEvans · 04/12/2018 18:34

Why would you be offended? Just don’t buy them, not everyone is religious and some people do enjoy a tipple at Christmas!

Dairyqueen2 · 04/12/2018 18:34

For those interested in buying them, they're in Dunelm, of all places. I think the 'o come' one has the same effect on me as theoretically going to see a kids' nativity play and finding it was all jokes about getting sloshed instead of the nice traditional version

Nah, that's not offensive.

THIS is offensive. And YES I laughed. And laughed. Naughty me.

It's appalling how the original meaning of the feast on 25 December has been taken over.

Don't people remember that it is the birthday of Mithras before all this Christmas stuff jumped on to the bandwagon and hijacked it?

And completely overshadowing the ORIGINAL celebration of the Winter Solstice a couple of days earlier.

ShatnersBassoon · 04/12/2018 19:56

Yeah, it's unfathomable that people don't remember the (probably not) birthday of an obscure sun god.

festivedramallama · 04/12/2018 20:00

Not offensive. Pringles Prosecco flavoured crisps on the the other hand are utterly offensive. Probably the worst crisps I’ve ever eaten. Can’t get worked up about a card though

whoamitojudge · 04/12/2018 20:00

You are offended by a card?? Seriously???

CoughLaughFart · 04/12/2018 23:58

O come all ye faithful is such a lovely carol - isn't it most people's favourite?

At school we used to sing ‘Oh come Ellet us ignore him - Christ, I’m bored’.

CoughLaughFart · 04/12/2018 23:58

Let, not Ellet.

TheFaerieQueene · 05/12/2018 00:09

I don’t see how some not very ima(gin)ative cards can create so much ire (see what I did there!). In the scheme of things it just isn’t important.
