They edited out my linea nigra...

Me and DP paid to have photos taken whilst I was pregnant. Waited until I was quite far gone as I've had a late loss before and in general the whole thing really meant a lot to us,

Am I being utterly silly to be upset that they edited out my Linea Nigra? I didn't notice this when we chose the photos we wanted. It was part of me when I was pregnant and feel a bit sad they've got rid of a bit of my body without even asking me. I would understand editing out a spot. But a Linea Nigra in a pregnancy shoot?

Oh I don't know. Maybe it's these post partum hormones!

Probably a bit of a pointless post as I've already paid for and received the photos so there's not much we can do. Just feels weird looking at my overly airbrushed belly and not recognising it...

i'd contact them and ask why!!!

Hengine · 03/12/2018 16:39

Can you ask them to unedit the image?
If you wanted pictures to celebrate your pregnant body then they should look like your pregnant body!

Yannina · 03/12/2018 16:39

I really want to @TheLittlestLightOnTheTree but I fear they will just say 'well that's what it looked like when you chose the photo' - I honestly didn't notice. Really wish I had as they cost a lot of money... ugh!

Aww I know how you feel, it's a part of you and understandable to be upset about it. Just don't let it ruin the photos for you. I have some that are heavily airbrushed and look nothing like me I put them away in a draw and have not looked at them since and it's a shame especially when the photos are capturing such a magical memory like pregnancy

Yannina · 03/12/2018 16:40

@Hengine they've already been professionally printed and sent to us. I feel like I have no leg to stand on. I don't know why I'm so upset about it.

Second contacting them, I'd be furious and so upset if that were me! A linea nigra is a perfectly normal part of pregnancy that many women get, why on earth did they see the need to edit it out?!

AintNobodyHereButUsRavens · 03/12/2018 16:41

@Hengine you won't know unless you ask!

AintNobodyHereButUsRavens · 03/12/2018 16:41

Sorry wrong poster there Blush

@Yannina you won't know unless you ask!

Yannina · 03/12/2018 16:42

They even edited out my belly button piercing hole! Again, what is wrong with it? It's part of my pregnant belly... or was anyway,

YANBU!
I would want my pic to be a true representation of me whilst I was pregnant! Contact them

Rattinghat · 03/12/2018 16:42

Depending how big the images were when you chose them. If they were too small to see the details you might be able to prevail upon them to reprint. But I would still give feedback that they should ask before photoshopping.

Yannina · 03/12/2018 16:43

@Rattinghat they were shown to us on a massive screen. I don't know how or why I didn't notice... :(

Surfskatefamily · 03/12/2018 16:44

You definitly just need to ask. Theyv probably been asked to edit one out and assumed. Most professional photogs will want a happy customer

Mumof1DS · 03/12/2018 16:45

Yanbu. I loved mine and am gutted it's nearly faded away so I can see why you feel emotional about it! It's a typical part of pregnancy, it should be in your pregnancy shoot!

Kintan · 03/12/2018 16:58

I guess enough people have asked for it to be removed for them to do it as standard? It's definitely worth contacting them though. Good luck :)

Rattinghat · 03/12/2018 16:58

Sad sign of the times that they think that photoshopping/filters are the norm.

Missingstreetlife · 03/12/2018 16:58

It's only airbrushing, they should reverse it
Prints cost them nothing, you pay for professional and studio time

ForgivenessIsDivine · 03/12/2018 17:00

They should never do this as standard, it's not unreasonable that you did not notice every detail in the viewing. Speak to them, tell them you are unhappy with the photos.

PositivelyPERF · 03/12/2018 17:02

Dear god! Is it any wonder so many young women are having issues with how they look. They are essentially saying that having a linea nigra during pregnancy is wrong and unattractive. What a message to send a pregnant woman.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 03/12/2018 17:03

It’s possible that the “photoshopping” hadn’t been done to the images you chose from. I know my last shoot I chose the pictures I wanted from the raw shots and THEN they did some gentle touching up before printing my chosen images.

PerfectPeony · 03/12/2018 17:04

I would contact them. Just say you didn’t notice when they did the screening.

When we had a newborn shoot for our daughter, the photos came through and they were very airbrushed. I wish now that I’d requested the unedited version, newborn babies and pregnancy bumps shouldn’t need editing!

MattFreisCheekyDimples · 03/12/2018 17:14

I would contact them and ask them to reprint without the alterations too. It's so depressing that they just assumed you would find it unattractive. Completely understandable that you're upset.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 03/12/2018 17:17

That's bonkers, def. complain.
(Makes me think of BIL & SIL's wedding pics, the photographer made her lovely grey/blue eyes a cartoonish shade of topaz. Confused )

EbayConundrum · 03/12/2018 17:21

As the wife of a professional photographer - ask them. They should have them on file and they'll want a happy customer if they're worth their salt. My husband wouldn't hesitate to re-edit things, especially if it might avoid a bad online review.
