They edited out my linea nigra...

Me and DP paid to have photos taken whilst I was pregnant. Waited until I was quite far gone as I've had a late loss before and in general the whole thing really meant a lot to us,

Am I being utterly silly to be upset that they edited out my Linea Nigra? I didn't notice this when we chose the photos we wanted. It was part of me when I was pregnant and feel a bit sad they've got rid of a bit of my body without even asking me. I would understand editing out a spot. But a Linea Nigra in a pregnancy shoot?

Oh I don't know. Maybe it's these post partum hormones!

I’ve told this before - we had a Venture pic done when our twins were babies. They edited out one’s birth mark. I think they genuinely thought it was the same baby.

I only noticed when we received the large photo - the next day. It niggled at me all night until I realised.

A manager came round, apologised, said I could keep it and reduce price by X amount or they’d redo without the edits. I chose to redo it.

Any photographer should be fine to redo this for you.

I agree with PP who said that they've probably been asked before to 'edit out' this detail,so they've probably wrongly assumed that this is what all women want! I would contact them and ask them to reprint it in it's original, natural state.
Excuse me for going off-thread a little, but this subject has reminded me of something that has puzzled me on and off for years. I don't have a linea nigra! I remember reading about it when I was pregnant with my DD (many years ago now, back in 1983),and waiting for it to appear. But it never did. Not even the faintest shadow of one. Every woman I know who has had a child/children has one, except my DD! Is it hereditary not to get one? I am quite pale skinned, with grey eyesand blonde hair,so wondered whether that was why.

Presumably you'd seen examples of their work before booking the shoot? What are the others pictures on their website like? Some photographers are a bit more heavy-handed with photoshop while others keep things quite natural. Both perfectly fine, just caters to different tastes and styles, but something you should always take into consideration when choosing a photographer.

I would imagine that they also smoothed out wrinkles and lumps and bumps, slimmed waist / hips / legs, evened out skin tone, erased fly away hair, etc? If those things were done as well and you didn't mind / were happy with them, it's really a bit of a balancing act for photographers to know which bits are okay to retouch and wich aren't. Just ask nicely and I'm sure they'll be happy to send you a couple of raw or less heavily edited shots.

I'm going to give them a call but not banking on them helping me out here! I haven't left a review yet...

I just think it's an odd thing to edit out. I've still got it. Maybe I'll have to pay another photographer to do a shoot of my flabby after belly just so I've got one with my LN in 🙈

Honestly I don’t think your photographer will mind you asking - it’s an easy thing to “unedit” (they can simply go back to the point in time before they erased it without any effort)

Ask for an unretouched digital version, and say you only just noticed it was removed so you wanted another version with it on.

AintNobodyHereButUsRavens · 03/12/2018 19:21

@RaspberryRipple1963 I never got one either and I know several women who didn't get one. I seem to think fairer skinned women don't tend to get them, but women with a bit more pigmentation do.

GummyGoddess · 03/12/2018 19:24

I have very fair skin and did get one with my first, but not second.

Ask them, the worst they can do is say no.

Yannina · 03/12/2018 23:19

Funny you say that as I am fairly dark skinned (half Caucasian half Afro Caribbean). Mine was super dark and I loved it! So sad it's fading...

I hope you're going to ask them, as the last poster said, the worst they can do is say no. Just explain that you only just noticed that it's been edited out and it's really upset you. They should give you the unedited ones imo as they're at fault for not checking whether you wanted to keep it or not.
