Would you buy a house next to a roundabout?

House is nice...only a few years old too. But it's on the end of the road next to a roundabout. The town is a small town, but the road gets quite busy as it is a main road to other areas.

I don't think it would be noisy, and it's a 30mph area. Just interested to hear if anyone would consider it, or if we're likely to regret it?

Traffic will be stopping and starting at a roundabout so it might be pretty noisy.

Burlea · 01/12/2018 16:45

No

NoThankyouHun · 01/12/2018 16:48

No the noise and pollution of people queuing or just waiting even briefly at the roundabout would put me off. You want nice calm fresh air in a garden ( well I do) so I bought in a leafy area down a cul de sac

Worriedmum2468 · 01/12/2018 16:49

no

peachgreen · 01/12/2018 16:52

Noooooo. My house is on a busy-ish road and although I don't regret buying it I would prioritise not being near a road next time.

MotherOfMinions · 01/12/2018 17:02

No way. Far too much pollution and traffic noise to enjoy the garden.

SpoonBlender · 01/12/2018 17:05

Go hang around there at 5pm one weekday, see how it is.

WinterfellWench · 01/12/2018 17:17

You got a link for it?

Hard to say really.

Some may be OK, others would be a nightmare...

OohBabyBabeh · 01/12/2018 17:19

I wouldn't mind. I've grown up under Heathrow flight path in zone 6 of London so outside noise is like white noise to me. I can't stand silent areas!!
If you're not used to it though you might struggle in summer when windows have to be open

brizzledrizzle · 01/12/2018 17:19

No, the noise and pollution would put me off. We live at the end of a small cul de sac and all we can hear in the garden is bird song - it's lovely. I'd hate to live anywhere noisy.

tinselfest · 01/12/2018 17:19

No.

category12 · 01/12/2018 17:21

Worth going there at rushhour and seeing how you feel about it.

RedWineIsFabulous · 01/12/2018 17:23

Nope definitely not

No brainer for me

HopeGarden · 01/12/2018 17:26

Theres a few things that might put me off.

Noise.
Air pollution.
Difficulty getting in/out in car if the house has a driveway opening onto the road leading to the roundabout (don’t know if that applies here)

The suggestion about going for a look at rush hour is a very good one.

Oobis · 01/12/2018 17:29

Absolutely not. Stop start traffic = more pollution, people looking in, noise, difficulty getting in and out at busy times and extra noise when police/ambulances put their tones on to make it across.

Boomboomboomboom · 01/12/2018 17:30

The worst thing is likely to be night time vehicle headlights and indicators. Very irritating!

arranbubonicplague · 01/12/2018 17:33

Instinctive reaction, No but as PP say, a lot would depend on how busy the road is and just how close you are to the roundabout.

Are there trees in the garden to baffled the sound, air pollution, and light pollution from the traffic?

starzig · 01/12/2018 17:33

Do you have a drive? I would imagine it could be difficult to get in and out of.

Emmak789 · 01/12/2018 17:38

No way, think of all the pollution and noise! Also it would just take 1 bad driver to damage your house, not to mention difficulty getting out at busy times and risk of accidents.

DorisDances · 01/12/2018 17:40

I wouldn't as cars changing gears is worse than traffic going by at s steady speed

ChasedByBees · 01/12/2018 17:45

I was going to say the same as Dorisdances, it’s the people changing gear, accelerating and braking which would be most noisy I think.

VisitorsEntrance · 01/12/2018 17:50

All the stopping and starting would put me off.

namechangeforthisobviously · 01/12/2018 17:51

I lived on a busy junction once and hated it. So noisy .

BackforGood · 01/12/2018 17:51

All houses have pros and cons.
Being on a roundabout would be a big 'con' however if everything else were fab - lower price to reflect it, lot more space , everything else perfect about the house and the location, very few houses coming up that tick enough boxes, then those factors might sway me.

smerlin · 01/12/2018 18:01

I live only a few doors from one and it's fine. Yes you do get sirens but then I live in London so sirens fairly par for the course. Like pp said, I do see it as a con (being on a main road rather than the roundabout per se) but then I would say it was reflected in the price and so many other pros outweighed it. Don't notice much in the back garden.
