Teacup, yes I believe most mediums are fake too! I saw a show with Derren Brown and he did a reading like a medium would and was able to tell me all about my dog who passed away and when she was pregnant she loved a curry. He did it all through the tells and signals I was unintentionally giving off. He stressed how it's all fake and how mediums con artists do it and things. Was very interesting.

Frangalico Why were your children at school at night?!

radishingravish · 02/12/2018 03:34

I was once in bed trying to get to sleep in my student house. There was a mirror on the wall my bed was up against. I looked up and saw in the mirror a dark figure wearing a short top hat (forgotten the actual name of said hat) standing over me. I was terrified. I slept with the lights on that night. A few days later I got up the courage to the description of this figure. And there were so many descriptions of him online. He was a shadow person. I had never heard of anything like it before but apparently they are quite common. It was terrifying. The only saving grace was that they are only meant to be an evil presence when they have red eyes, which thankfully my shadow person did not. Anyway this was a few years ago, and over that time I have convinced myself that maybe it was all in my head, and I was just dreaming. But a part of me still knows it was very real.

I was invited by a friend to join some of her work mates on a haunted house tour, the leader of our group was a real queen bee type, very managing, and very rude and I didn't like her but as she was my friends boss I had to bite my tongue.

We were walking down the main stairway and I stopped to admire the wooden bannisters, she called up to me and said in a very rude tone -oh doooo try and keep up with everyone, I muttered under my breath 'I don't like you' a voice in my ear whispered 'I don't like her either' there was no-one there all the rest of the group were at the bottom of the stairs and couldn't have heard what I said .

We didn't see anything else on the tour, I told my friend later about it and she told some of her colleagues, now apparently its a running joke about the boss that even ghosts don't like her.

We live in and are renovating a house which my DPs stepdad’s dad built. He was a carpenter and built this beautiful house all my hand, but it has fallen into disrepair. StepFIL always would “joke” about there being ghosts of his dad and their dog here, but I’m not much of a believer in woooo. A few times I’ve seen shadows of a man or dog walking around that couldn’t have been my partner or our dog. If it is the old man who built the house I assume he’s happy the house is full of light and people and family and stuff, and I stand by my frequent loud assertions he had shit taste in wallpaper, fight me ghostoldman.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 02/12/2018 06:09

Love these threads.

Nothing ghostly to add but I often will have dreams when someone we know is about to die even if they haven’t been ill. I hate it.

EerieSilence · 02/12/2018 07:39

I was at a paranormal lockdown in a haunted house. We were using a tablet with Kinect in one of the rooms supposed to be haunted by a ghost of the daughter of the family who got mentally ill and spent the rest of the life in that room, handcuffed to the bed. We saw about four entities in that room, one small one jumping on the bed like a small child would do, bigger ones walking or sitting on a wardrobe. One responded when asked to raise their arm. Everybody got their turn on holding the Kinect so it wasn't like someone could manipulate it.
They didn't really interact with us except for the one time. I didn't feel scared or insecure in that room only very sad and I wished the girl to find peace and rest.
Apparently there was another lockdown when the group's experience was much more unpleasant, feeling threatened and not wanted there.
Not sure what to think about it. I went into the experience not believing in anything woo. The house is almost derelict and some of the rooms are unsafe to be in, wobbly floorboards etc.

Florries · 02/12/2018 08:32

What's a paranormal lock down? Is it like a lock in at a pub?

TenForward82 · 02/12/2018 08:34

Think we have a haunted cupboard that goes back into the eaves of our house (it's now a small ensuite). My DN once saw a person in there (asked me who it was). The back of the cupboard is partially sealed off with a hatch and a couple of times the hatch has been removed. Once there were leaves on the floor, no way they could have gotten there unless the dormer window was open.

Once heard scratching coming from the other side of that wall, isolated it to a plastic bag - ok, we have a mouse, no problem. Opened plastic bag, nothing there but scratching had stopped.

House was built 1920s on former farmland. Mostly been in the family with no grisly murders that I know of!

TenForward82 · 02/12/2018 08:36

Forgot to say since we've started phase 2 on renovating the room the ensuite is in, I've been seeing a lot of shadows and movement out of the corner of my eye. Once I thought I heard my DD come into the room, but when I turned around there was no one there.

Betsy86 · 02/12/2018 09:04

Scared but cant stop reading Grin

Does anyone else ever get these dreams i feel strange talking about it in real life so il ask here.
This has happened to me 3 times after the deaths of close family and a school friend. For a couple of weeks after they die and im obviously very upset dont sleep well am thinking of them alot and not sure where to go with my thoughts or how to move on and i get to the point of having nightmares about them and seeing them die and be struggling etc.
Then one night i will have a really calm dream, this dream seems to literally last hours. That person will come to me and we will talk for hours about happy times, sad times things that i need to be strong for and after a few hours they start preparing to leave.
My great nan for example began applying her make up as i used to watch her do often and started to fade away told me not to be sad anymore that she is safe and will be ok as will i.
My school friend told me to do my driving lessons and that he’s ok where he is now and not to be sad anymore. My grandad we just spoke about day to day things and that hes ok now and near the end of each dream they all started to just fade away but looking really warm and peaceful.
As soon as they were gone i would wake up and from that day i never dreamt of them again in a happy or a nightmare way and felt a odd sense of peace like we had our goodbyes.
I still miss them a great deal years on but often think of those dreams and im convinced they were more than dreams x

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 02/12/2018 09:20

That’s lovely Betsy.

Occasionally dream of loved ones - it’s soothing.

ElsieMc · 02/12/2018 09:35

Not very in tune with woo, but had complaints at my home which is a former vicarage. Not an old one more a sixties one, but I think sadness stays in house and our front room was the room used by the vicar to deal with funeral arrangements, counselling etc. It is a room we cannot get warm and rarely use it.

Strangely I have had complaints about someone running along our rather long landing. I dont know who they are, nor where they are going but my dd1 now in her thirties was the first to complain. My now teenage grandson rang me to come home when I was shopping because someone had just run along the landing. He sounded really scared.

Had strange smells as well and no, not teenage boy. It smells like someone has been wallpaper stripping, a hard to describe smell. My dd and me put up ladders and sniffed the walls trying to find a reason for it. I used to work at an estate agency and I knew one of the surveyors so asked him to have a look round whilst I was away one weekend. He took his damp meter and there was a nil reading so we cannot account for it at all.

I don't get a feeling of foreboding or anything here and I have never picked anything up myself. I think some people are more finely tuned in to this sort of thing than others and I must be thick skinned.

GertrudeCB · 02/12/2018 09:47

I had one of those dreams as a child after my Grandma died Betsy
I work in an office based in a converted Victorian house. Many, many people have reported strange goings on . For example I was first in ( key holder) one morning, turned the alarms off and saw a shape move across the reception area. Definitely the only person in the building. Several other people have seen a similar shape in the same location.
Footsteps on the 3 rd floor that hasn't been in use for years.
Alcohol smell that manifests in one area ( outside the meeting room) in December. Had maintenance in but can't find any cause.
Oh and the last time I opened up I felt 2 sharp taps on the back of my head and my colleague found me stood on the car park refusing to go in alone .

I read something once about stairs being a "transition" space - between floors - and therefore between realities @banggoesthattheory

We've moved into a new house this year and when I've been in the bathroom, I've seen someone walk along the corridor on several different occasions. I never mentioned it to anyone and then my daughter said: oh mummy, don't worry. That's just the man who watches me sleep.

I'm still petrified of being in her room alone.

cricketmum84 · 02/12/2018 12:21

@Hortonlovesahoo eek no I would never be going in her room alone ever again!

My daughter once told us about the little girl who hides under her bed. That freaked me out a fair bit. I've never felt anything in this house though.

When I was little my sister used to swear she would see a monk stood in our bedroom. We lived one street away from the ruins of an old monastery. I never felt anything there either!

As a teenager we lived in an old cottage attached to a church. I was terrified of being on the landing at the top of the stairs and used to run down the stairs so fast in case there was something behind me.

More recently we stayed in a very lovely holiday apartment. Most woo experiences ever in there! I had extra faces being picked up on snapchat filters on my phone, catching things out of the corner of my eye and shadows in mirrors. My daughter was in the toilet and shouted who's tapping on the door, we were all in the living room!! Also saw a woman stood next to my DH for a split second. And the scariest was when I woke in the middle of the night, opened my eyes and there was a face on the pillow staring at me. I had my back to DH. I literally leapt around and buried my face in DHs back! Never been so happy to get back to my own bed!

I don't know if this is really Woo or just a child imagination. When I was 4 years old my 8 year old brother died. My mother told me that she used to hear me playing with him and I used to shout to her to come and tell him to stop bouncing on my bed.

n0ne · 02/12/2018 14:38

I lived in a typical London terrace for a couple of years with now-DH and we sometimes used to sit and drink and chat companionably into the early hours. One night I got this weird feeling that someone was missing - like there'd been three of us chatting and the other person had suddenly gone and DH thought so too. It happened a few more times - we felt like there was a third person there, and we named our friendly presence Scott.

Later we discovered that our house (which did look different to the other houses in the terrace) had been flattened in the Blitz.

TinselBee · 02/12/2018 15:37

So just now in my kitchen felt a very firm tap on my shoulder. No one but my 18 month old DS is here. I didn't feel scared by it but now just wondering what it was!

I often see people who suddenly vanish, pretty sure it my mind just filling gaps. But there was this one time which has stuck with me... I was driving home when I came to the zebra crossing near my estate. Suddenly out if nowhere a 11 year old boy on his BMX zoomed part of the way across the crossing, I had no choice but to swerve and having a near collision with an oncoming vehicle (which rightly beeped at me). But as I swerved the boy just vanished. I later learnt that there was a hit and run there where a young boy on a bike was hit. Sad
