To be devastated?

I found a moth infestation in a cupboard. Obviously have emptied cupboard and fortunately only two items are really affected , which I have thrown out. One was a gorgeous Zara velvet blazer of ds’s. I’d buy it again if I could. I’d buy it in every size from 3 up. He only wore it twice but I loved it! I’ve had a quick look and there’s nothing the same (satin collar, very deep navy or possibly black) and it’s not on eBay. I know this is about as much of a first world problem as you can get (and I’m glad the rest of the clothes which are much more practical are fine). But his beautiful blazer.... :(

If you save the search on eBay it is likely that you will be able to buy the exact blazer again at some point.

Some clothing really evokes memories and feelings doesn't it op.

Also had clothes moths ( carpet not clothes affected) and they are so difficult to get rid of. Search everywhere for them !

HauntedPencil · 29/11/2018 23:47

Mumsnet is such a lovely place at the moment don't you find?

That's a bugger OP.

KurriKurri · 29/11/2018 23:55

I had mice eat holes in a cupboard full of blankets once - I wasn't devastated but it was pretty minging (mice shit while they eat).

You can get some wooden ball things - cedarwood or something I think - that deter moths, also if anything is very precious you can vacuum pack it in those plastic bags you suck all the air out of with the hoover. (obviously too late for the blazer but for future ref.)

SingingSands · 30/11/2018 00:09

Bloody moths! Bah humbug to them!

Is the blazer ruined or could it pass for being rock n roll tatty chic? Grin

Lalliella · 30/11/2018 00:14

A Zara velvet blazer for a 3 year old? You have more money than sense. Have this: Biscuit

timeisnotaline · 30/11/2018 00:17

I don’t think my 3yo can carry off rock n roll tatty chic singing. He’s far too well fed.

HOWEVER , my Zara search attempt must have been pathetic because I’ve found them! I must have been too devastated distraught to work the search function (also the Zara website is oddly badly optimised for google search. They have every size except his but I can live with that Grin
This is a happy story folks.

Sympathies, it’s horrible finding something ruined.

SylviaAndSidney · 30/11/2018 00:19

Aah that’s good.

Bluerussian · 30/11/2018 00:23

Very glad.

When my kids were 3 all their clothes came from Tesco and Asda!

When my kids were 3 all their clothes came from Tesco and Asda!

That doesn’t mean everyone has to shop there.

grimupnorth1 · 30/11/2018 00:39

Some MNers really suffer from some kind of moral superiority complex...

I feel for you OP, it's just a jacket but you love it! You love the way your DS looks in it and love the cherished memories of him in it. We're allowed to be sentimental buggers when we feel like it.

drinkygin · 30/11/2018 00:50

Zara kids stuff is reasonably priced and excellent quality...hilarious everyone acting like you’re dressing him in head to toe Gucci 😂 only on mumsnet are you supposed to pretend you buy your kids clothes in a jumble sale.
OP I’d be gutted if I were you too. Hope you manage to replace it! Sounds like a cute jacket, I love Zara kids clothes.

AGHHHH · 30/11/2018 00:53

Zara is not even outrageously expensive! It's comparable to River Island. A normal high street shop.

everywhichwaybutt · 30/11/2018 00:55

You clearly don’t have kids @purpledaisies. OP I’d be upset too, ignore the naysayers. Glad you found a replacement

ThistleAmore · 30/11/2018 01:04

We had a moth problem, and my 40-something OP's high school blazer was a casualty.

I found him shedding actual real tears over it (he loved his time at school, unlike me).

Fortunately, we found somebody in our local community who was incredibly deft at invisible darning/mending.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee · 30/11/2018 01:19

Lalliella. Blimey that’s rude of you to be dishing out biscuits just because the OP bought a jacket from Zara. Maybe she can afford it and wanted to. Not sure why you felt the need to be snide and I don’t understand your motivation 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP, glad you found a replacement.

timeisnotaline · 30/11/2018 01:51

Thanks to those who sympathise; yes it’s all about the memories. Bastard moths. There was a moth repellent hanging in the cupboard.

thegreatbeyond · 30/11/2018 02:43

It's £25. You'd spend more at John Lewis!

PurpleDaisies · 30/11/2018 07:14

Why have you chosen to pick out my post everybutt? There are eight other posts explicitly saying that “devastated” is OTT, most in far stronger terms than me. Hmm

Bowchicawowow · 30/11/2018 07:19

I bought my DS a beautiful velvet jacket and he refuses to wear it. I have kept it in his wardrobe in the hope he will change his mind.

timeisnotaline · 30/11/2018 08:23

Fingers crossed for you bowchicawow
It never used to be a problem but now if he won’t wear something I leave it for the weekend and dh can usually talk him into it.

Bowchicawowow · 30/11/2018 09:05

To be honest timeisnotaline I am not hopeful now the hormones are kicking in.

HauntedPencil · 30/11/2018 09:50

Zara can be very cheap. A lot of things are as cheap as Tesco. I get DD nursery clothes from there are tops are 3/4 pounds.

You aren't morally superior if you get things from the supermarket you know.
