To want to boycott Dyson forever...

houseRefurb · 29/11/2018 11:35

So, I place this order to replace our old DC41 and though initially confirmed on the phone, and due for delivery today..
It was a straighforward card payment. But, apparently, the card is not the issue .. I had to phone and hold for ages for someone to explain this to me..
And now I learn that my order has been refused because it failed a 150 point check done by their "system"..But, they won't tell me why.
I cited GDPR and the right to ask for an explanation! Nope, its the "system" Shock

I am so furious Angry with their attitude towards customers that I want to boycott their products forever.. AIBU ?

Anyone been in a similar situation or who knows more about these things, please enlighten me..! TIA

That's crazy! Were you paying for it outright or was it supposed to be in instalments?

dogToy · 29/11/2018 12:55

"I cited GDPR"

Why?

You aren't really boycotting the products. They're refusing to sell you one. I assume that this is some sort or credit.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 29/11/2018 12:59

I wish people would stop trying to use the GDPR when they don’t know what it is

The amount of times I have heard this relating to absolutely nothing to do with the GDPR, is amazing

RibbonAurora · 29/11/2018 13:02

Obviously your card payment has been declined or your application for credit to pay by installments has. You've failed a credit check, maybe a mistake by your card issuer/bank but that's not Dyson's fault. They can't tell you why your card issuer or bank has blocked this transaction because they don't know - they just know it's been declined. Call your bank or card issuer.

Lougle · 29/11/2018 13:07

You want to boycott their product when they've refused to sell it to you? I'm sure they'll be devastated. Grin

Phone them back and ask if they will accept a bank transfer or PayPal.

TeaStory · 29/11/2018 13:09

GDPR does apply because it has a big section on automated decision-making.

houseRefurb · 29/11/2018 13:12

No, it has nothing to do with the card. This was mentioned in the email and confirmed on the phone too.

Yes, they have refused to sell it to me via their website..

And regarding GDPR, TantrumsAndBalloons, I know what I am talking about. It's the right to ask for an explanation

Be more specific in your citations (cite doesn't mean what you think it means, but we'll run with it) as to why you think your 'ritez' are covered by GDPR.

Also, I'm intrigued as to if you can boycott a product the company refused to sell you. Was it a sale or some kind of loan / credit?

toastymarshmallowss · 29/11/2018 13:43

As @Lougle says I doubt they'll be bothered by your boycott so go ahead 😂

steff13 · 29/11/2018 13:44

cite doesn't mean what you think it means

What does it mean?

UnknownStuntman · 29/11/2018 13:45

Dyson is a Brexit supporter. There is no reason not to boycott the cunts business.

fixxle · 29/11/2018 13:50

Haha calling someone a cunt because they disagree with you is one way to deal with life....

The OP should have said she 'quoted' the GDPR not cited

makingmiracles · 29/11/2018 13:50

Yanbu. Generally, dyson are shite.
Buy a shark, amazing hoover, far better than dyson imo and fantastic customer service. Also, you can pay in instalments for 6m and they don’t do a credit credit afaik and send the hoover straight away once you’ve made the first payment(mine arrived on a Sunday!)

SweetestThing · 29/11/2018 13:56

I boycott Dyson because of his Brexit stance - reason enough. I'd rather wipe my hands on my clothes than use one of his hand dryers. The one time I did have a Dyson vacuum cleaner, I was singularly unimpressed.

Want2bSupermum · 29/11/2018 14:00

Sharks cost a fraction of dysons so you probably won't need a payment plan either.

anneofavonlee · 29/11/2018 14:01

Go ahead OP, they are getting worse anyway. I was most disappointed with my cordless one.

Babdoc · 29/11/2018 14:06

I’m definitely not impressed with their delivery arrangements!
I ordered a Dyson at DD’s request for her new flat. Ticked the box (on Saturday) for delivery on Tuesday. They emailed me on Monday to say they were going to deliver on Wednesday- when I’m out all day.
I replied and they changed it to Friday, when I’m in.
Guess what- they then delivered it on Tuesday!
I can only imagine how annoying all this would be for someone who has to take time off work for deliveries. Dyson insist on a customer signing for the delivery too - they won’t leave it in your garage if you’re out. Bloody nuisance, and so badly organised.

PushItRealGood · 29/11/2018 14:30

Be more specific in your citations (cite doesn't mean what you think it means, but we'll run with it)

dogtoy and fixxle off tangent but I don't see what is wrong with OP's use of cite. At no point did she say she quoted the GDPR verbatim so why can't she use cite to mean she referenced the GDPR to back up her reasoning, paraphrasing in her own words?

steff13 · 29/11/2018 14:31

The OP should have said she 'quoted' the GDPR not cited

But, the definition of "cite" is literally quote:

cite
/sīt/Submit
verb
past tense: cited; past participle: cited
1.
quote (a passage, book, or author) as evidence for or justification of an argument or statement, especially in a scholarly work.

dogToy · 29/11/2018 14:34

Because she clearly didn't quote or cite anything as she has little / no idea about GDPR and it's relation to her failing to buy a hoover.

I have a feeling that most buying a hoover on credit could realistically quote legislation.

houseRefurb · 29/11/2018 14:54

Oh, dogToy, you have got so many of your facts wrong there.. Smile

I wasn't buying on credit. I have already said that. And I know enough of GDPR and its extrapolation to automated decision making and the rights of consumers. Perhaps its time for you to update yourself a bit. The link I posted earlier can be a good place to start.

"And I know enough of GDPR and its extrapolation to automated decision making and the rights of consumers." to, do what? Not actually explain anything, clearly.

Good luck with your vacuum and your 'ritez'.

houseRefurb · 29/11/2018 14:57

dogToy, I am genuinely surprised at how rude some people can be!!

YABU to be buying Dyson given his support for Brexit and the fact that his products are no longer the best around Wink whatever he might claim

As soon as our heavy and cumbersome Dyson bites the dust, I'm buying a cordless Shark.
