Aibu to not comprehend how it can be possible that newborn baby Stanley Davies, who had been in hospital on 3 occasions with broken ribs and limbs (if I am reading the reporting correctly) was sent back home with his parents and not removed from them by Social Services? I just cannot fathom how that could happen.

Someone is guilty of failing massively in their duty of care here (I refer to the professionals, not his parents). Unless any more knowledgeable Mumsnetters can explain to me how this might have happened?

I want to cry when I see this gorgeous little boy, I honestly do. I wish his parents would have just given him up for adoption, or abandon him in a hospital. Anything but what he had gone through.

I hope his death will start such an uproar that the system gets reviewed. I am guessing nothing will happen. Ditsy parents will live in fear of social services, whilst torturers will keep going, and budget cut will only make things worst.

DaffydownClock · 28/11/2018 19:15

Utterly appalling. Nearly every bone in his body broken poor little soul.
May his 'parents' rot in hell.

SassitudeandSparkle · 28/11/2018 19:21

Shocking injuries, the very short timeframe that they occurred in is just hard to take in. Dreadful case.

A580Hojas · 28/11/2018 19:23

There's a review of failings after every case like this. Baby P for instance, and further back I remember Victoria Climbie and Maria Colwell in the early 1970s!

But three visits to hospital in less than 24 days? How was this not picked up? We have parents on Mumsnet all upset because they've been interviewed by SS after one or two visits to casualty in a number of years!

Unspeakable bastards Angry

Poor baby Sad

meow1989 · 28/11/2018 19:25

God I wish I hadn't read that, his poor little life must have been nothing but pain. There are no words.

RedPandaMama · 28/11/2018 19:27

I just read the BBC news report, horrifying and disgusting. May they both go to prison for a very long time. Makes me tear up just reading these things, it's unspeakable how anyone could act that way.

MrsL2016 · 28/11/2018 19:32

The injuries recorded after his death were believed to have happened on 3 separate occasions but I don't think he went to hospital 3 times. It did say that a health visitor noticed a bruise behind his ear but that's it. This is absolutely horrific and I hope they both get a long long time for what they put that poor defenceless baby through.

A580Hojas · 28/11/2018 19:33

Yes, his parents deserve every punishment and I can't express my disgust about them strongly enough.

But my question is about the professionals - the people who saw him in hospital on 3 occasions before he was 24 days old - how can the safeguarding system (whatever it is in this country) have failed so spectacularly?

Just as an aside, the man convicted of the poor baby’s death was not the child’s father.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/11/2018 19:35

Its like a repeat performance of the baby Peter case. I'd sack the social workers, too. No pay off no nothing. Join the Dole queue!!! How many more children are they going to fail. They're too busy taking over weight children into care.
I'd lock up the parents for life. None of this parole nonsense and i d drop the key in the ocean.
Sleep peacefully with the Angels baby Stanley. X

Augusta2012 · 28/11/2018 19:38

There’s a video of the police confronting them about an argument a few days before. The mother seems calm and competent and is trying to diffuse the situation. He is obviously off his nut and angry plus gives a very unconvincing account of the reported argument being with a friend who has now left. They should have removed him then.

CoolCarrie · 28/11/2018 19:38

I am fucking sick of hearing “lessons will be learned “ every bloody time this happens! Poor wee soul, another example of a woman putting a man before her child, and another example of male violence

Stickmanslittleleaf · 28/11/2018 19:38

There will be a LOT, and I mean a LOT of information not reported at this stage, it's in the press because of the trial. Once the inquiry takes place more will probably be revealed as to the involvement of professionals/ SS other circumstances. But right now it's about the crime, not the circumstances surrounding the poor baby's death.

Happygolucky009 · 28/11/2018 19:42

Utterly heartbreaking 💔

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/11/2018 19:43

Oh yeah that old
'Lessons will be learned' chestnut.
That's the thing though.
These lessons never are 'learned' are theyAngry

MsChanandlerBoing · 28/11/2018 19:44

It’s chilling reading that and watching that video especially because the mum seems ‘normal’. I can’t see how someone can harm a tiny baby 😭.

I may be reading it wrongly but it seems he was taken to hospital once and died a week later - the fractures on 3 separate occasions may have been dated on skeletal surveys done then.

surferjet · 28/11/2018 19:47

Your safe in heaven now beautiful Stanley ❤️

keepondreaming · 28/11/2018 19:47

I don't think mum looks normal in that video, she seems under the influence of something. And the poor baby in her arms, his head unsupported, he doesn't move or make a murmur.

SecretWitch · 28/11/2018 19:48

I am heartbroken for that little boy. How anyone could assault a tiny, defenceless baby is incomprehensible.

naicepineapple · 28/11/2018 19:49

Just as an aside, the man convicted of the poor baby’s death was not the child’s father

Surprise, surprise. It's nearly always the case.

brizzledrizzle · 28/11/2018 19:50

It's when I hear news reports like this that I wonder about enforced sterilisation.

Poor baby. He looks so gorgeous but must have been in terrible, terrible pain.

PatchworkElmer · 28/11/2018 19:50

I can’t bring myself to read about this in detail, it makes me want to scream.

brizzledrizzle · 28/11/2018 19:52

It did say that a health visitor noticed a bruise behind his ear but that's it

Apparently the consultant thought it was a birthmark Hmm

MrsTerryPratcett · 28/11/2018 19:54

Its like a repeat performance of the baby Peter case. I'd sack the social workers, too. No pay off no nothing. Join the Dole queue!!! How many more children are they going to fail. They're too busy taking over weight children into care.

If you have voted for any governments who have cut care provision or funding for health or social services, you should point the finger at yourself.

I worked for SS for a few years. You have no idea how many cases I had where there was risk of serious harm, neglect and death. Multiple cases in a big caseload. People seem to think SWs have one case. They carry so much risk and worry and responsibility. And the funding goes down, while the caseload goes up.

You're welcome to get trained and join the fight for children.

This case is horrific. But make no mistake, there are lots of desperately neglected and/or abused children. They all need support and care.
