To ask if you exercise in the morning, what time you get up?

I need to start fitting some exercise into my days.

However as it is, dh and I get up at 6.15, coffee, breakfast, dh leaves at 7am, then I get the dc up, get them ready and leave house at 7.45am for Work.

I get home first at around 5ish with both dc in tow, I then make dinner, we eat at 6.15 when dh gets home, then it's homework, reading books, clearing up and getting clothes and lunches ready for the next day.

Both dc are in bed at 8.30pm at which point dh and I both sit down until bedtime, at 10pm!

I get out of bed by 6:30, try and get on the road before 7:30. Drop baby off, then gym before work. If I leave after 7:30 I'm just sat in traffic so may as well get up and go to the gym. Baby won't sleep in so not like I can hang round for a lie in.

Sohardtochooseausername · 28/11/2018 16:48

I am hopeless at getting up for exercise but, as well as walking to and from work I have started going for a run in my lunch hour. It helps to build it all into my day as it’s usually too hectic after work with school pick up etc.

necromumda · 28/11/2018 16:50

Really silly question but ..isn't it scary running in the dark?

mommybear1 · 28/11/2018 16:53

I don't usually run in the dark so when winter hits I do HITT via YouTube I get up at 5.45, wee, chuck on clothes, downstairs YouTube on and off we go kills me to get up as PFB is not a sleeper but I feel so much better for it. If you can stick at it for 20 days the habit should form.

NamedyChangedy · 28/11/2018 17:03

I only manage this routine for a couple of months at a time because while it's the best way to fit the exercise in, it works against my natural rhythm. But at the moment it's 5.50 wake up, 6.00 leave house, 6.10 arrive at gym and set up class equipment, then warm up before 6.30 class, 7.15 head home. I can be ready to leave for work by 8am if I'm really organised about it.

ChristmasFluff · 28/11/2018 17:07

I prefer to exercise in the evenings, and do that 4 or 5 days out of 6, but one or two days a week I work late, so I get up at 5.20, do Insanity Max30, or Focus T25, (30 minutes/25 minutes respectively) shower/hairwash and cup of tea and then it's 6.20ish - my usual get up time. Beachbody has lots of workouts either on demand or on DVD - the older ones can be got quite cheaply off ebay. Or Davina does some 30 and 20 minute workouts.

babysharkah · 28/11/2018 17:25

I don't have time any more but I used to love running in the dark - we're not remote at all so there were plenty of people around going to work from 6am onwards.

violetbunny · 28/11/2018 18:07

I get up at 5.45am. On weekdays I use the Jillian Michaels fitness app, which gives you custom 25-min workouts (or shorter/longer if you prefer) that you can do at home with very little equipment. I'm done and in the shower by 6.20am! I find exercising like this has made it much easier to become a habit, plus it's harder to find excuses not to do it compared to later in the day when I might be busy/hangry....

EdWinchester · 28/11/2018 18:10

Up at 6:15, lightning shower and in spin class for 6:45. Then have another shower.

I always feel fantastic on the days I do this.

Stillwishihadabs · 28/11/2018 21:23

Up at 5:30 kids out at 7, go for a run home by 7:30 work by 8

Cath2907 · 28/11/2018 21:39

Up at 6, out the house by 6:10. Back at 7, shower and dress and coffee by 7:30. Wake DD at 7:30 for breakfast. Out the house by 8:30. My exercise is dog walking and I do it 7 days per week ( I go out an hour later on weekend mornings!)

creativeusername · 28/11/2018 21:52

Up at 5:45, out the door with the dog at 5.55. Walk until 6.35 (aiming to build to a jog and eventually run), home, shower and dressed, kids up at 7, get them dressed and ready for nursery. Leave for work at 7:25, DH drops them both to nursery at 8am on his way to work.

I always have the intention of starting the 30 Day shred dvd in the evenings but after we've got the kids to bed, tidied up after dinner, got bags ready for the next day and done any work that needs doing for the following day (I'm a teacher), I honestly cannot be bothered!

amgine · 28/11/2018 21:57

Martial arts one or two evenings a week. parkrun on a Saturday. Run on Sunday evenings and getting up one or two mornings a week at 5:15 out the door for a run by 5:30 so I’m back before DH goes to work at 630. It’s a pain sometimes but a sacrifice for being fitter and healthier (and being able to keep up with my kids)

MrsStrowman · 28/11/2018 22:01

Before I was pregnant I'd get up at six, brush teeth, straight into gym clothes, be at the gym for six thirty, 45-60 minute high intensity workout (spin/circuits etc) shower there and get ready for work (gym was on the way to the office), be in the office by 8:45-9. Once I go back after mat leave I will do the same as DH will be doing morning drop off, his work is more flexible and he often doesn't start until 9:30/10 and he works very locally

FusionChefGeoff · 28/11/2018 22:04

Drastic option: can you approach work about flexi time with a later start??

UserX · 28/11/2018 22:05

Cycle to work. Shower & dress at work so need to leave slightly earlier but it’s the only way to fit it in.

Strongmummy · 28/11/2018 22:12

6am, have yoga from 6:15 - 7:15, on train to work by 8am. I’m lucky I have a nanny. It’s the only way I could do it in the morning tbh.
Can your kids do more for themselves in the morning?

masterandmargarita · 28/11/2018 22:18

Can't you fit 'free exercise' into your day. Cycle to work? Or always use stairs not lifts etc. And run up the stairs. Or do a 1 or 2 min plank every now and then, or 10 press ups or buy a skipping rope and do 5 mins skipping every morning. There are plenty of ways to fit in exercise without commiting hours to it.

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 28/11/2018 22:21

Those of you hat are getting up early to exercise, what time do you go to bed?

Strongmummy · 28/11/2018 22:25

11pm

puppymouse · 28/11/2018 22:27

I feel tired just reading this 😢

I tried getting up to do 30 day shred before work. Turns out my body needs the sleep more than the exercise. I was exhausted...

I'd love to be more of a morning person.

MoorMummy · 28/11/2018 22:33

Up at 550 , brew throw gym gear on, leave at 625 for a 645 class, half hour then drive back, walk dogs and then get ready for work. I drive in rush hour so get to work between 910-930. I don’t take a dinner hour or work later to make up the time, but my work is flexible anyway.

It’s better in the summer as I get up at 535😳 walk the dogs and then go to work straight from the gym. We have good facilities at work for getting ready.

I love morning exercise, it’s a real faff fighting the traffic to get there at night.

I don’t have young kids though ( son at uni).

Stillwishihadabs · 29/11/2018 05:59

Usually in bed 9ish, asleep by 10

notdaddycool · 29/11/2018 06:13

Any chance of cycling to work? It’s part of my daily routine now. A lunchtime run club might work and going with colleagues puts a bit of social pressure on you all. If not Parkrun on Saturday mornings.
