To buy more mice??

Hated them.
I have never experienced such stink ever before, they peed in their food and water, all over their cage and one ate the face of its deceased companion. Vom.
Fortunately when DD was at school..

Was so pleased when they passed over.

My DD saw my DH taking the cage to charity shop tonight, he told her not to worry, he was just taking them to the vets.
She knows they probably aren’t coming back.

It’s been an hour and a half and she is still hysterical screaming and crying, keeps saying ‘mice’ sadly.
My heart breaks for her.

I feel like should buy more of the smelly cannibalistic little bastards but DH will go absolutely batshit...

Guinea pigs.

Curious2468 · 27/11/2018 19:10

I agree! Guineapigs! Much nicer 💕

Ffsnosexallowed · 27/11/2018 19:12

What age is she?? I would have been honest with her and told her they had died.

GeneralBallAche · 27/11/2018 19:12

You didn't tell her they died and immediately took the cage to the charity shop??!

Snappymcsnappy · 27/11/2018 19:14

Hmm.
My DH will be very difficult to convince..

I also have a complicating factor in my dog (border collie) who is very herdy, as you’d expect being from working bred lines...
Think intense, immovable staring at the mice for HOURS.
I honestly think she would give a rabbit/guinea pig a heart attack.

Tell her they died?
She’s only four!
She’d be even more inconsolable

And no, I hid the cage in our room for a couple of days.
She hadn’t noticed so my DH tried to sneak the cage out.

What's wrong with a plain old hamster?

CaptainCabinets · 27/11/2018 19:16

You only mention that one died, what happened to the other?

Yes you tell her they died!

SneakyGremlins · 27/11/2018 19:17

Four is old enough. Just do it age appropriately.

IJustLostTheGame · 27/11/2018 19:17

Rats.
Rats are mini dogs and are awesome.
I had to stop keeping them as their personalities are waaaaay bigger than their lifespans and I just couldn't take losing another. Sad

Snappymcsnappy · 27/11/2018 19:19

They both died captain.
She didn’t notice one had gone because we only ever took one out at a time and they had a little house they used to hang out in.

Wolfiefan · 27/11/2018 19:19

You need to tell her.

GeneralBallAche · 27/11/2018 19:20

Is this real? I can't believe you wouldn't mention it. Even to say they moved to a fucking mouse farm.

GeneralBallAche · 27/11/2018 19:20

They've gone to disney to worship at the great mouse father.

Badcat666 · 27/11/2018 19:21

Tell her they died then get her 2 rats.

They can be trained to go to the loo in a corner or actual "loo" bowl, never pee or poo on their food, rarely bite, will happily sit on her shoulder/ lap/ head to keep her company. Mine used to ride on the back of my german shepherd.

Hamsters are crap as pets for kids as they bite and will keep you awake all sodding night and sleep in the day when your kid is awake and wants to play.

coughingbean · 27/11/2018 19:21

I had to tell my 4 year old our cat died, she was very upset but stopped crying quite quickly.

IMO it's best not to shield them from death or can hit quite hard later on.

Flewog · 27/11/2018 19:21

I've had mice, hamsters, rats and a house rabbit.

I also found mice to be the stinkiest.
The hamsters were canabalistic.
The house rabbit was unfriendly.
The rats were the most responsibility (need time roaming outside of their cage every day) but easily the best pets.

That said, your DD sounds very young and I don't think any of the above small pets are suitable for small children.

Have never kept guinea pigs.

GeneralBallAche · 27/11/2018 19:22

Get rats and tell her the baby rats finally grew Grin

MarthasGinYard · 27/11/2018 19:23

Awful

Don't have ANY pets again.

Snappymcsnappy · 27/11/2018 19:23

You know general your really not being very helpful at all, you’ve left three comments all quite aggressive and rude actually.

Your first one about practising on mice before kids especially.
Carry on and I’ll be reporting you.

Yes, tell her they died.

Our one cat recently passed (she was only 4). My dd who is just shy of two, saw us taking care of a very sick cat in the week leading up to her passing. She would go over and pet her and cry “kitty”. She passed over night and my dp has already taken her down to the car to bring to the vet. Dd woke up, and looked everywhere for her. We told her that she was gone and the other cat needed a lot of love because his best friend was gone. She understood just fine, she cried about it, and then focused all her attention on our other cat (I had adopted them together so they really were best friends). Kids understand a lot more than we give them credit for.

We just recently adopted a new kitten and our other cat is slowly accepting him. Dd woke up the other day to see them sleeping together, points to them and goes “fweinds?” And proceed to pet both of them.

Dying is apart of life. If you lie to her, she will never trust you when you say you are just bringing a pet to the vet again.

General's comments are funny! Where's your sense of humour op?
