To buy more mice??

Hated them.
I have never experienced such stink ever before, they peed in their food and water, all over their cage and one ate the face of its deceased companion. Vom.
Fortunately when DD was at school..

Was so pleased when they passed over.

My DD saw my DH taking the cage to charity shop tonight, he told her not to worry, he was just taking them to the vets.
She knows they probably aren’t coming back.

It’s been an hour and a half and she is still hysterical screaming and crying, keeps saying ‘mice’ sadly.
My heart breaks for her.

I feel like should buy more of the smelly cannibalistic little bastards but DH will go absolutely batshit...

Umm, you do realise they were very well cared for, fed, watered, had toys, treats, taken out marthasginyard?

We have lots of pets, very well cared for.

Still, there’s always one.

Guinea pigs are lovely (missed point) and 4 years old is definitely old enough to know if a pet has died. It’s far more frightening and confusing to have your pets just vanish for no reason.

Ploverlover · 27/11/2018 19:27

Of course you tell her they died. Why would you hide it? Surely the point of short lived pets is to teach about life and death?

Get a tortoise, otherwise.

MarthasGinYard · 27/11/2018 19:28

'Still, there’s always one.'

Quite

Just don't find these threads funny for some reason.

GeneralBallAche · 27/11/2018 19:28

Get a tortoise, otherwise.

[snort]

You gotta rope your grandkids in for one of those.

MarthasGinYard · 27/11/2018 19:29

'Umm, you do realise they were very well cared for, fed, watered, had toys, treats, taken out marthasginyard?'

No

I'd say from your glee and how they were found you possibly neglected them.

Snappymcsnappy · 27/11/2018 19:31
Hmm Why would you think my thread is meant to be funny..?

I suggest you save your ridiculous ‘don’t get any pets’ mentality for people who don’t actually care for their pets.

The point of the thread was to ask whether in the same position people would buy more mice.

Opinion seems to be no, they would have just told the truth.

OP posts:
GeneralBallAche · 27/11/2018 19:32

Was so pleased when they passed over.

Yeah, that's how I feel about things that I love and care for.

Snappymcsnappy · 27/11/2018 19:33

Neglected.
Oh my.
If that is what you wish to hear.
It’s totally innacurate but whatever.

OP posts:
gamerchick · 27/11/2018 19:33

Well yes, the truth is better.

Isn't the whole point of short lived pets to teach kids about life and death? You can't shield them from this fact of life.

If you can't be honest, I really would wait a few years before getting any more furries. Maybe get a budgie or 2.

britnay · 27/11/2018 19:33

rats are definitely cannibalistic

Snappymcsnappy · 27/11/2018 19:34

**wish to think even.

There is a massive difference between thinking these pets stink and I regret getting them and neglect.

A massive difference.

MarthasGinYard · 27/11/2018 19:34

Your cat eats a 'pepparami condom' as you put it. A piece of plastic.

Other pets are scratching madly with fleas apparently....

FFS

MarthasGinYard · 27/11/2018 19:35

I bet you stink OpGrin

SoupDragon · 27/11/2018 19:36

Do you think being told that the mice died is worse than thinking that things that leave the house don't come back?

And no' don't get more.

Snappymcsnappy · 27/11/2018 19:38

Okay, i think I am just about done with this ridiculousness actually.

I shouldn’t have to defend myself, I have done nothing wrong, the animals are well cared for but here goes.

The cat snatched the wrapper after my four year old threw it on the floor in front of her.
I was upstairs putting my baby to bed at the time.

The dog has flea allergy.
This means that if a single flea bites her she has a severe reaction and becomes very itchy and uncomfortable.
I flea treated her with reputable ‘proper’ flea treatment that had no effect.

rebelrosie12 · 27/11/2018 19:41

Of course you tell her that they died fgs! Why would you lie?

Elphie54 · 27/11/2018 19:42

So you left the 4 y/o, downstairs, alone while eating? What if she choked?

MarthasGinYard · 27/11/2018 19:46

Also you talk about mice on another thread where you and DH are 'relieved they died'

So it's pigs and Mice?

Nice

So in answer to your AIBU
Yes you are to consider owning animals

And yes I think you thought you were being ever so slightly, hilarious talking about all this shit.

Hubby said his brother had pet rats as a child and they were quite friendly.

I cannot speak to rats specifically as we are not allowed to have them here. (I live in a rat-free jurisdiction in North America. Obviously the rats don't know where the border is, and we do occasionally get them in border communities, but there is a special rat hotline people can call to have the rats eradicated. We aren't even allowed to have pet rats here. Until we visited the UK I had never seen a rate IRL.)

MarthasGinYard · 27/11/2018 19:47

F F S

Don't encourage them to have any further pets.

Snappymcsnappy · 27/11/2018 19:48

No, I did not leave her alone eating.
She got it out of the fridge while i was upstairs.

Hiding the thread now and making mental note that mumsnet is full of absolute loons that cry abuse, neglect, LTB etc at nothing and never to use it again.

The animals are fine, as are my children.

user1473878824 · 27/11/2018 19:49

Well, apart from the mice.... (sorry OP, too easy!)

MarthasGinYard · 27/11/2018 19:50

'Hiding the thread now and making mental note that mumsnet is full of absolute loons that cry abuse, neglect, LTB etc at nothing and never to use'

Grin

Now that's what you call a super flounce.

Happy scratching

IggityZiggityZoom · 27/11/2018 19:50

You need to tell her they died or you risk losing her trust. She knows something bad has happened to them. Don't teach her to ignore her own instincts. Tell her they died and have gone to heaven or whatever you want to say. Then suggest what to get next. Maybe a cat? I think a rabbit would be terrified of the dog.
