Just that.

Amount spent on children, other family, any friends you buy for, any friends’ children, godchildren, teachers/TAs etc, other gifts such as one for the particularly helpful postman etc.

I’ve saved up over the year but the money just seems to have frittered away, despite trying really hard not to spend too much individually. Agh!

3 older kids 250e Ă—3
2 younger kids 750Ă—2
Dh 400
Family and friends 750
Food 300

I keep spotting something for one of the younger kids and then have to even it out with something for the other.

Funnyface1 · 27/11/2018 19:04

I really don't know. I should add it up and shock myself, then I might rein it in a bit.

So far I've got 2 things for dh and lots of things for our 2 dc. Spent hundreds already but I just keep seeing lovely things they'll love and we all love Christmas in this house.

Propertywoe · 27/11/2018 19:05

I make sure my two eldest have the same spent but it depends on what I choose to buy each year. I do regret buying too much quantity when they were younger as it sets expectations that are much more difficult when the teenage years hit. This year is going to be expensive but I am buying electronics that they need for university and 6th form. My youngest disabled child money is spent on year round activities. I know a few people who spend ÂŁ100 on the Christmas Eve boxes per child, the pressure on those who cannot afford seems to be getting bigger just in the short time of my DC growing up.

QuarterMileAtATime · 27/11/2018 19:05

2 DC - around 100 each. This might increase with age.
12 nephews and nieces up to 20 each
Parents 60
This year DP and I are buying a luxury item for the house that we can all enjoy rather than more stuff for each other. 400
Teachers, office gifts etc 50 altogether
With extra on food etc I’d say 1000 all in.

Curious2468 · 27/11/2018 19:14

ÂŁ350ish on each child, ÂŁ100 ish on husband, ÂŁ20ish on inlaws. ÂŁ20ish each on our 2 nieces.

Hosting Yule feast which will likely tot up to another ÂŁ150 ish.

Santa visit is around ÂŁ50

Will likely do panto or similar at some point too

Peaspleaselouise · 27/11/2018 19:14

yoyo

I spend the same for the festive period, around ÂŁ800 of which circa ÂŁ500 is presents.

A Christmas without presents would be fantastic.

I too feel a little bit sick adding it up but don’t think I’ve gone overboard at all, especially as similar to a lot of other posters on here.

It all feels such a gimmick and so commercial. Yes I know it’s the same every year BUT seems to have struck me more this year.

Will try and do something alternative next year. Not too sure what though!

£300 on DH. £40 on both of our mums and £25 on both of their partners. £20-30 on my brother and DH’s brother each. £20 on each of our nephews. It works out as quite a lot once we add in christmas food and other bits and bobs, but we cut our cloth based on what we can afford

NinjaGoSaysNo · 27/11/2018 19:19

About ÂŁ150 each on the kids
DH and I don't buy for each other as we'd just be getting each other something from a wishlist so it's easier just to but for ourselves and not buy any pointless stuff
Around ÂŁ75 per extended family
I will also spend ÂŁ15ish on something for my best friend

Food/drink probably around ÂŁ50 extra on top of what we'd usually buy

foxyloxy78 · 27/11/2018 19:21

ÂŁ500 on ds. ÂŁ100 on DH. ÂŁ200 on dp. ÂŁ400 on food. ÂŁ50 on teachers.

puzzledlady · 27/11/2018 19:23

depends - when my husband liked a coffee machine- about 1k, when he wanted only socks- 20pounds.

This year - im getting a new bathroom.

For the children, not much really - they get things throughout the year. My daughter has asked for a chocolate bar this year and my son has asked for more dinosaurs. 4 and 2 respectively.

Somewhereovertherainbow13 · 27/11/2018 19:24

We buy for hardly anybody - no adult family members on my side and only boxes of chocolates for in laws - this year though I’ve cut back on the presents dc are getting and have found that by buying less I’ve spent more. Probably £250 per child and £100 per niece and nephew

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 27/11/2018 19:28

Not much. DH and I don't buy for one another or anyone else.

Last year DS got a trainset from lild and some primark pyjamas- must have been around ÂŁ20.
He was almost 2.

DD was 16, she got a jumper and some bits for her room so about ÂŁ50.

sar302 · 27/11/2018 19:31

We end up spending around ÂŁ1000 all in on presents - that includes each other, family and friends, and now our baby who is just before Christmas, and a nephew just after. Poor timing! We also bought an early present of an iPad though... so ÂŁ2000 this year. From jan I'm setting up a direct debit each month to cover Christmas, birthdays, anniversary, valentines stc. As I'm continually surprised by how much it all costs every year!

Ninoo25 · 27/11/2018 19:34

Around ÂŁ1k. We spend ÂŁ200 each on our children (we have 2) and ÂŁ50 on me and DH. The rest goes on our MASSIVE family.

yesmelord · 27/11/2018 19:35

ÂŁ250 for my daughter (currently only child DD2 due in April so this may go down a bit next year)

ÂŁ30 each x 4 of my siblings (first year of not doing DH siblings as Just doing shopping for the kids)

ÂŁ40 my 1 niece, ÂŁ30 each for each of DH's nieces and nephews (5 of them)

ÂŁ40 on each of my parents. Not doing DH's parents as agreed were just shopping for the kids on that side.

Me and DH don't buy for each other at Xmas, we get what we need/want when we need/want it so don't see the need for gifts for each other.

It's also my DD's, my mum and my dads birthdays in December so a busy month!

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 27/11/2018 19:39

Roughly around ÂŁ200 on ds,ÂŁ50 each on parents,ÂŁ10 each on nieces and nephews,ÂŁ150 on dh and vice versa

littleskittle · 27/11/2018 19:43

I've just finished shopping and kept count for first time ever - I have spent ÂŁ770 on presents, cards and wrapping paper. That's for husband (who I spent ÂŁ300 on), 2 small kids and 23 other relatives and friends. Not got tree yet, or any trips out etc will be extra but mostly it's fairly low key / cheap / free stuff

EdWinchester · 27/11/2018 19:44

We have stopped buying for siblings and adult nieces and nephews which has cut down massively.

I spend about ÂŁ600 on dh and ÂŁ500 each on dcs. Do a hamper for parents - about ÂŁ50 each.

Then about ÂŁ30 each on 6 close friends.

Bath9000 · 27/11/2018 19:45

DH 1k
DD ÂŁ500-750
Dcat ÂŁ25
Food ÂŁ150
Agreed with rest of the family that we only buy for 18s and under so only another ÂŁ200.

Youmadorwhat · 27/11/2018 19:48

So far I have spent about 70 per child I will probably spend a bit more so approx 100 per child (I have 2 children) I will probably spend about 50 on hubby. We don’t buy for any other adults in the family only our parents. So about another 150 or less.

Huntawaymama · 27/11/2018 19:49

ÂŁ100 on husband, ÂŁ50 on each of our two daughters, ÂŁ20 each on our two nieces and nephew and ÂŁ30-50 on each parent.

guzzlepuzzle · 27/11/2018 19:56

Oh it's easy 1k if not more it's ludicrous!

GunpowderGelatine · 27/11/2018 19:58

Relatives and kids friends - ÂŁ20-ÂŁ30
DH - ÂŁ50
Kids ÂŁ150 on the 5yo about ÂŁ75 on the 2yo

All in all about ÂŁ500 on presents this year balks

Summerisdone · 27/11/2018 20:05

I've spent roughly up to ÂŁ150 on my DS (4), then my 4 teenage sisters, Mum and stepdad I've spent ÂŁ20-ÂŁ30 each, Nan & Grandad have just asked me to bake them a cake and for ex I've spent ÂŁ10 (I get him a token gift on behalf of DS).

I don't get aunts/uncles/cousins etc. because we've agreed that there's so many of us and none of us can really afford to buy each other, so instead we all try to get together some point just before or after Christmas for a night out.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 27/11/2018 20:05

I hate these threads, bringing me face to face with my spending!
2 kids: ÂŁ150 each
DH: maybe ÂŁ50
Friends kid ÂŁ15
Nephew: ÂŁ20
Mum, Dad and Sister: ÂŁ10 each
DHs family, teachers, friends, childminders etc: get a bottle of home brew wine which costs roughly ÂŁ5 to produce. So... Another ÂŁ50 there.
Thats ÂŁ475 give or take.
The disparity between my family and DH's is because we each take responsibility for our own sides of the family. DH prefers to do it by brewing rather than shopping.
