To think there must be a way to earn £20k a year from home?

I’m a qualified nurse. Qualified in 2016 and have had 3 jobs since then. Reason being ... I struggle socially, suspected ASD, can’t handle pressure or being around people all day - I just hate my job.
I only need to earn around £20k a year to contribute to the house. Surely there must be something I can do from home? I’m off work atm for the 3rd time this year with stress. I can’t keep doing what I’m doing.

Can you visit the careers service (sometimes they can arrange phone appointments). They will give you more career options eg side steps that you can take.

There are many good books on career changing on Amazon

BikeRunSki · 27/11/2018 08:45

How are you in 1 to 1 situations? Would you consider retraining?

Could you retrain as something like a chiropractor, physio, podiatrist and have a clinic at home? I’m just thinking of what jobs the people I know who from home do.

MrsStrowman · 27/11/2018 08:48

So around ten pounds an hour five days a week, or around £80 a day, you can earn that cleaning if you work for yourself, or dog walking, although it will take time to establish a client base. In both of those jobs you'll be alone most of the time.

festivedramallama · 27/11/2018 08:59

Matched betting can make you a fair amount, once you’ve got the hang of it you can easily earn 500+ per month, there’s a video that explains it here and long running threads in Money, the current one is here here

chocilit · 27/11/2018 09:04

Too many established cleaners and dog walkers in my area unfortunately. Dog walking is something I would love to do otherwise!
FestiveDrama ... I am very interested in your post! I’ve just checked out the video but it seems too good to be true, wouldn’t everyone do it if it was that easy? (I lost £2k on bitcoin so am cautious with these “flawless” money making ideas ... )

Can you look at doing nurse research? Or maybe ICU/HDU where your patient is less likely to be chatty? Or you could bank twilight shifts, no one tends to be super chatty because you are so busy until your shift ends.

Medical records review for personal injury/clinical negligence cases? Not sure how well it pays.

This type of thing (random google brought this company up I don't work for them/recommend them)

20k is a huge amount of money.I think if there were a way of earning it from home everyone would be doing it.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 27/11/2018 09:13

I really dont think there is....

Ive ended up looming at part time minimum wage work but that's really not where I was aiming

GaryBaldbiscuit · 27/11/2018 09:14

Why did you go into nurse training?
what else can you do with your nurse qualification?

QuickChatChange · 27/11/2018 09:17

DH does, he makes animations for a YouTube channel. Took about a year to grow, you now need 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time before you can start earning money through Adsense. But yeah, it's a relatively steady income. Only have to pay for software each month and probably upgrade his computer in the next 6 months

Prostitution
Management
ITU (though doesn't guarantee intubated patient)
Retrain as a morgue technician?

spanishwife · 27/11/2018 09:20

Most people that earn a decent full time wage (like myself) from home have had careers in an area, built up knowledge and experience there and then decided to go freelance, or have an arrangement with a business they have made a relationship with to work remotely.

I think you'd struggle to just open your laptop at home and find a job that pays £20k+ with no prior direct experience or network in that area.

Neweternal · 27/11/2018 09:21

What about training in fillers/Botox? You're a nurse that can prescribe? If you're self employed you can't be off at the drop of a hat, clients don't understand. I have hairdresser friends who went to work the day after their father died. I lost a long term client after my mother suddenly died as I couldn't fit her in. You have to be prepared not to take time off.

Agree! 20k is a go to uni, do a min wage internship, then get a promotion wage for a lot of people (outside london obvs)

maddening · 27/11/2018 09:21

Private nurse?

maddening · 27/11/2018 09:22

Second botox fillers work - can you prescribe?

WhyDidIEatThat · 27/11/2018 09:22

There can’t be ‘too many’ dog walkers and cleaners? Competition = demand, it’s evidence that those services are needed.

The only thing about dog walking is it helps to enjoy the contact with their human people too.

NoPhelange · 27/11/2018 09:24

Botox, do the relevant training, people will generally choose to visit a nurse over anyone else for this. My friend is a full time nurse and does this from home on her days off, I've been there when she has people stopping by and have seen 4 people come and go in an hour at £150+ each. Has a therapy chair she pulls out in her dining room and off she goes.

spanishwife · 27/11/2018 09:26

Working from home, for yourself definitely wont be less stressful by the way. There's a lot of pressure to keep going as a PP said. You are responsible for getting up, getting work done - if you have to have time off it's completely at your own expense. Dealing with clients can be difficult and frustrating, so can dealing with the HMRC! I wouldn't recommend it for someone struggling with mental health/social anxiety. I've been pushed to my limits at times!

Littlechocola · 27/11/2018 09:28

What areas of nursing have worked in?

SummerGems · 27/11/2018 09:29

There really isn’t a fail safe way of earning that kind of money.

There are a limited number of people who earn through matched betting but it isn’t the easy ride that some will have you believe. You may earn a few hundred at most through intro offers etc but the rest is infinitely complicated and getting harder.

I don’t know about Botox but I did find out recently that if you have Botox that will rule you out as an organ donor. Someone I know of died recently and was on the register but because she’d had Botox in the past she couldn’t donate her organs....

Ffiffime · 27/11/2018 09:32

I do a call centre job from home. My full time wage would be £20k per year plus I take home about £250/300 a month in performance incentive, full time, my incentive would be £400/£500.
It’s quite a stressful job and I’ve worked for the company a long time.

Fannyfanakerpants · 27/11/2018 09:32

I do matched betting. There are people who make serious money but thet are few and far between and you need a big bank roll to do it, but I easily make £400 a month for an hour or 2 a day whilst on mat leave with 3 kids to entertain. It really is free money, no pyramid scheme, scam etc. So don't count on it as an income but it can be a nice boost whilst you change careers.
