Wait until the advent calendar is cheaper in price and buy that instead, then wrap each individual gift up and give her them, still all from smiggle but a fraction of the cost that way.
You may then just have to buy a purse

yumyumpoppycat · 27/11/2018 00:36

Have to agree with previous posters about the water bottles - they are rubbish. The lunch bag things seem quite good though. (My dc have been given things as party gifts or bought with their own pocket / birthday money)

KC225 · 27/11/2018 00:49

I think you just need to be clever about it. Get a backpack and a purse and a pencil case - in the Smiggle sale of course. All the other stuff like pens and pencils and hair bows and keyrings can be bought in Tiger, Primary or Wilko for a lit cheaper.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 27/11/2018 02:31

This is an excellent opportunity to teach/underline the lesson of value for money. I'm guessing that she doesn't especially 'want' Smiggle stuff, but she's just becoming aware of branding and facing the pressures that the big brands rely on to brainwash people from a very young age into believing that they're paying for quality and not just for a fancy name; and she may not even really understand that near-identical but much cheaper alternatives exist - i.e. 'a Smiggle pen' isn't a thing in itself, it's just 'a pen' that's overwritten with a shop name.

If you can gather details of the price for all of that stuff from Wilko, B&M, Aldi or wherever and then show it to her alongside the online basket from Smiggle and explain it to her in simple terms, she could learn a very valuable lesson.

Going on the unlikely supposition that you were going to spend £110: find some medium-to-big-ticket toys/items that you think she'd like (or just ask her, to be sure) and present it as two options: "Would you like these items of Smiggle stationery or would you prefer these very similar items of stationery as well as these ?"

I'd be absolutely amazed (and, tbh, quite sad) if she was so determined to have the Smiggle tat alone rather than the same items plus another biggish toy or two.

ButtonMoonLoon · 27/11/2018 08:21

Big sale on at smiggle today, just had an email full of special offers :)

Aeroflotgirl · 27/11/2018 08:23

NO it is expensive tat, now I steer the kids towards the store Tiger, a fraction of the price and much better. The death knell came, when I spent £13 on a rubber water bottle for ds thinking it would not break or leak, and it did, what a waste.

Leafy2018 · 27/11/2018 08:24

It's absolute tat.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 27/11/2018 08:31

Agree with WeBuilt.
It's so very ridiculously overpriced that even from a young age my DC have worked out that it's better to get one or two Smiggle things for show, and then bulk out with cheaper stuff. Both of mine have chosen Smiggle pencil cases, which they've then filled with Wilko gear.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 27/11/2018 08:32

oh, and I'll add to the crowds saying avoid the water bottles - DC2 got one as a birthday present from SIL. Shattered on day one of use.

Aeroflotgirl · 27/11/2018 08:40

Yes we got 2 rucksacks in the sale for £15 each, half the price of the actual ones, they have been good so far.

I fucking hate smiggle with a passion!

DD(9) however loves their shit.

I allow her to pick a back pack once a year (as they really don't last beyond that) but anything else she wants she has to fund herself.

MTBMummy · 27/11/2018 09:42

PS - their Advent calendar is ONLY £55, and has most of the stuff on your list - so maybe worth a look

Mari50 · 27/11/2018 09:52

Hate Smiggle as does my dd. She loves Tinc though which is just as expensive but seems to be of better quality, certainly the things we have bought over the years have been more durable anyway.
Dd loves Flying Tiger as well.
Tat shops depress the fuck out of me.
That said my dd’s tat filled bedroom depresses the fuck out of me and I only have myself to blame for that.....

SilkenTofu · 27/11/2018 10:30

No, it is a total rip off. I now go to Tiger and buy loads of stuff at a fraction of the price.

Lonely200144 · 27/11/2018 14:52

You do not have to be sad for her and it’s isn’t about pressure or labels at all, she lives most of her life in isolation for children etc and has managed 6 hours in total at school this year.
She chose smiggle because when we do get to the local shopping mall it’s the shop that is there that she likes to go in to she has no concept of it being a big brand just likes the shop
I have updated that I went for stuff from another shop but will pop in after Xmas to see if there is anything in the Boxing Day sales.

Hi!
Has anyone got the Smiggle unicorn alarm clock? We’ve thrown out the instructions and can’t work out how to set the time and alarm!

TheVanguardSix · 14/01/2022 10:42

Oh there's something wonderful about swanning right past Smiggle in Westfield without DD (almost 12) batting an eye, like it doesn't even exist!
But you'd think the workers there would at least wave to me as we walk past. I took out a small mortgage to afford their cheap, overpriced tat when DD was between the ages of 5-8. You'd think I'd get a free bottle of prosecco as a thank you or something like that for all of my effort, sweating in that shop while DD took her sweet time, wading through Aladdin's cave, dragging my bank account further into its overdraft.

You have my sympathy, OP. Good luck with this phase. It's not ALL bad though. Some of it is very cute and good quality.

TheVanguardSix · 14/01/2022 10:47

Just reading your posts, OP- good luck with your DD's fresh start at school!
Ironically, my own DD just started year 7 full-time this month. It's a big step for your little one. She deserves boatloads of Smiggle. Grin
I hope you know that my previous post was a jokey one. My DD adored Smiggle. We'd never walk past it when she was younger. The sirens would lure her in! It's kind of weird now just strolling by and heading straight to the Doc Martens shop. And I thought Smiggle would break me! I'm preparing to take out another mortgage for this next 'Camden Lock Meets Cosplay' phase. Confused

TheVanguardSix · 14/01/2022 10:49

I'll stop but thinking back, her Smiggle water bottle was one of the best ones she had. And she had a lovely keyring with the initial of her first name. And the pencil cases are very good!

It's things like the pens and the slime that break the bank and don't last.

Sedai · 14/01/2022 10:49

Smiggle is my friend's daughter's favourite shop so I got her Christmas present from there, and when I was in the shop I was like...this is definitely all tat 😂 thats a lot of money to spend on it!

ConsuelaHammock · 14/01/2022 10:55

But a pencil case with 5 items for £5 and maybe a few hair bows. Stop when you get to £20.

ConsuelaHammock · 14/01/2022 10:55

Buy
