To ask your recommendations for thin, easily greasy looking hairs

Just realised how horrible that sounds! I would be really grateful if you could share your product recommendations for the best shampoo and conditioner you might have found for fine/thin hair which goes limp/greasy looking very quickly after being washed. Mine has always been a bit like this and the Body Shop shampoo which was great seems to be impossible to get hold of now. All recommendations welcome from any price ranges. Thank you!

Why don’t you try batisse (sp) dry shampoo, to give your hair a break from washing every day.

MadCatLadee · 25/11/2018 18:23

I have similar hair and used to wash it every day. I gradually started to extend the time between washes as I dye it to maintain the colour and now wash it once a week! Obviously more often in hot weather or as required. I'm a convert to dry shampoo in between and find that it not only gets rid of the greasiness, but gives great volume.

Huggybear16 · 25/11/2018 18:32

My hair is like this. I've had good results from the clay containing shampoos and conditioners.

chocolatebox1 · 25/11/2018 18:37

Thank you everyone, I don't actually wash it every day, should have said! but it still looks awful most of the time. I'd just be very grateful of the shampoo/conditioner recommendations people have found helpful for this type of hair!

I have lots of very fine, greasy hair. I’ve had great results with the L’oreal Extraordinary Clay range. I use the pre-shampoo mask (my favourite of the three), shampoo and conditioner. My hair (I blow dry but don’t style at all) feels clean, light and bouncy- something I thought was impossible for my limp locks!

pompomcat · 26/11/2018 00:21

I have hideously fine, flat and wispy hair (I could and do go on and on about how crap it is) - I quite like Liz Earle shampoo & conditioner. Also VO5 volumising blow dry spray.

pompomcat · 26/11/2018 00:23

Its quite greasy too. I wash it every other day and use Batiste in between (the one for brunettes so it doesnt just look like I have popped a whole lot of talcum powder on my head!!! Grin)

spanishwife · 26/11/2018 00:24

My holy grail is the pantene oxygen shampoo, it's completely clear and says "clarifying" on the bottle. Wash, rinse and repeat, you can even do 3 times on bad days. Then a light conditioner but ONLY on the ends! Never on the top of your head/near the root.

Redken scalp relief oil detox and Lush’s juniper shower bar.

I have greasy hair and dry shampoo just doesn’t work it remains greasy with a dry like coating on top

Due to illness I had to go without washing my hair once for a long period, it did not learn to self cleanse, just remained v greasy. Sympathies for having greasy hair.

Pimpernell · 26/11/2018 02:18

L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay Shampoo

bloodyhellimtired · 26/11/2018 04:53

I use baby shampoo and conditioner, a gentle one with no scent etc. It's made for baby fine hair, so works for me Smile

Digestive28 · 26/11/2018 05:20

I stopped using conditioner and that sorted it. Shampoo by itself is just fine, it’s the added conditioning that seemed to add the “shine” which quickly became grease

Togaandsandals · 27/11/2018 00:21

@Digestive28, I don’t use conditioner, my hair is still v greasy.

halfwitpicker · 27/11/2018 01:04

Here's my top tips :

Wash it twice in the shower.
Don't use conditioner.
Use a silicone free shampoo : Johnsons baby shampoo, redken cleansing crème, or any mentioned above. Alberto balsam is good too.

It is good if you can wash it only every other day but your hair never resets itself and loses the grease completely. Maximum amount of time my hair can look good for on one wash is 36 hours. After that it's chip pan head.

This weekend left my hair for 3 days and it was limp, greasy strings on the third day. It does look good today though.

RumbleDoll · 27/11/2018 01:11

I've been told that if you go for a month without washing the hair DOES re-set itself... I haven't done it yet Grin but I'm going to try it some time... I'm not convinced you can change the levels of oiliness from the "outside" as surely the amount of sebum you produce is down to your individual genetics, hormones etc but the 30 day washing fast seems worth a try according to those who've done it!

pollywiggle · 27/11/2018 20:39

Agree with using a shampoo with no silicones. I have very flat sad hair that got greasy by the evening, my sister recommended Kind Natured - or any shampoo with no silicones/sulphates.
I can now get away with washing my hair every three days. Big change for me and great time saver!

LongWalkShortPlank · 27/11/2018 20:44

I switched to faith in nature chocolate shampoo and condition because its paraben and some other stuff I can't remember free and it worked wonders. It took about 2 weeks for me to see the full benefit, but now it's hard to find and they changed the packaging lol. It was cheap though.

Theknacktoflying · 27/11/2018 20:48

I use the seanik Lush shampoo - no conditioner and works well for me. I have very fine, greasy hair

Buswankeress · 27/11/2018 20:56

I have fine greasy hair and it seems to suck up smells quite easily as well so in addition to looking crap it either smells like a stable floor (mucking out horse) or an industrial kitchen (going to work) Envy(not envy!)
It's worse if I get rained on or it's windy as well.
I'm following this with interest for some new ideas but at the moment I wash mine every day in tea tree shampoo because it gets rid of the grease and the smells and sometimes need to use a dry shampoo if I've washed it the night before and then need to look half decent in the morning, I use the brunette one though as another pp said generic ones make me look like I've rubbed talc on my head!

Twotome · 27/11/2018 21:01

This stuff is great. I use it on freshly washed hair if i want a bit of volume and it stops it going greasy so quick.

is it true that dry shampoo leads to hair loss ... last thing I need

MuncheysMummy · 27/11/2018 22:02

How the hell could dry shampoo, simply a topical mildly absorbent powder lead to hair loss?! No I can safely say as someone qualified to confidently tell you... no dry shampoo does NOT lead to hair loss!
How do you imagine it did that?

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 27/11/2018 23:26

I seem to remember there was a news story about someone complaining that it had for her or possibly trying to sue them. Iirc though she was using it all the time and never washing her hair with water Envy so she couldn't really blame it on the dry shampoo manufacturers as they pointed out it's only meant to be a quick fix not a substitute for normal shampoo
