I know I drink way too much. Not everyday but when I do it's at least a bottle of wine. Last night I drank 2 bottles!! I love Christmas but most of it is spent hungover or feeling like crap. I've managed to quit before and abstained all over the Christmas period and New Year and to be honest it was the best Christmas I've had! But this time I'm scared.....all the parties, Christmas do's etc. I'm having major FOMO (fear of missing out). Can you inspire me to do this.....help me see alcohol for the poison it is? Thank you X

I have a lot of coffee, decaf after 12, elderflower cordial, with tonic. I do have various flavoured teas but I have to fancy those. Also water... lots of water86 days

86 days! Well Done! 🎉

I'm not fussed on coffee. One cup is enough.

Elderflower cordial..never tried it. I'll pick some up today. Can I get it in Tesco? It's not something I've ever looked for but sounds interesting. Thanks x

Tesco's have it yes, there are quite a few AF alternatives at the moment ❤️

I'm inspired. Been drinking more than is good for me for a long time. Like a PP I used it to push down feelings. Also to numb and self-medicate against my narc exDH.

That choice became a vicious circle tbh. My reactions to him worsened his treatment of me, which in turn increased my use. I can own that.

I also enjoyed it too...it 'helped' with social anxiety and being 'likeable'

Sod that. I have cut down considerably in the last cpl of months and my gaining strength has become a welcome cycle of cause and effect!
No-one else going to steer this ship for me and my kids deserve a WHOLE LOT better.

Strength to you all x

@SoCockneyItHurts How are things?

ichifanny · 08/12/2018 15:46

I gave up alcohol last January and found out I was pregnant the end of January so obviously did t drink I had baby start of September and haven’t touched alcohol , my husband gave it up too at the same time , we have more money , both lost loads of weight , I’m pre pregnancy weight already , I’ve came off sertraline . Life is so much easier without the doom of a hangover .

ichifanny · 08/12/2018 15:47

We buy becks blue beers which are alcohol free beers if you fancy the beer taste .

Good plan to stop drinking: might be good to get some support. There are some threads on here.

Sounds like your H may have a drink problem too with those bingeing levels and behaviours.

Riotingbananas · 08/12/2018 15:52

A family friend has found Club Soda an enormous support with stopping drinking. I think it's on facebook.
