And if you have what was the first thing you spent it on?

imboredtonight · 23/11/2018 23:03

I suppose I should check my numbers 😂 I bought a ticket today

Oatman

Could you get involved with volunteering? Find a new 'purpose'?

PrincessConsuelaBannanaHammock · 23/11/2018 23:04

Won £100 once & bought a Hoover for my first house 😂
That's a shame Oatman, it just shows money really can't buy happiness!

hamburgers · 23/11/2018 23:10

@WesternOatman give the money to charity if it's making you so miserable.

imboredtonight · 23/11/2018 23:11

I could have won £4.10 if I'd picked the same numbers a few weeks ago

Oh well 😔

🤣

I haven’t won anything but every time I play I’ve spent in my head, if that helps? Lol.

First thing I buy is a Ferrari

Rufus27 · 23/11/2018 23:19

A student I once taught bought a lottery ticket just after her 16th birthday. She won £125,000. (This was 20 odd years ago). Not sure what she spent it in, but she continued to work as a care assistant and it didn’t really seem to change her at all.

Housemum · 23/11/2018 23:23

Most I’ve ever won is £25. I do £2/week on a direct debit and just hope. I couldn’t begin to imagine £millions, I just fantasy spend £1 million. Divide by four - repay our mortgage, buy a 2bed house for each of our 3 kids. Oldest can have it now, the other two to be held for when they are adult, rent it out until then.

PodgeBod · 23/11/2018 23:24

I do a direct debit every month but I don't think I've ever broken £10. I like to think the universe is saving up all my luck for a mega win.

Magenta46 · 23/11/2018 23:29

I know of a lady who received an 8 figure lottery win. She wasn't badly off to begin with , not rolling in money but comfortable and had a nice house. She would regularly come into the store I worked in and make several large orders for landscaping materials. I used to wonder why this retired woman needed to buy so much stuff . I was later told she chose to spend her winnings helping friends and neighbours fix up their homes and gardens. The money didn't change her in the slightest. She chose to share her fortune, and I think that made her a happier person .

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 23/11/2018 23:30

Barely a bean and I often play.

I know exactly how I will spend my massive win- it is going to come some day, I know it.....

Then I hear stories like Oatman and I feel really sad amd think it’s really set up very wrongly with such huge prizes

PodgeBod · 23/11/2018 23:33

I quite like the big prizes, it's more exciting. I could make my friends and family millionaires as well and not be lonely on the yacht.

Icantreachthepretzels · 23/11/2018 23:33

I won about a £100 a couple of days before Christmas last year. That was the only time I've ever got anything above a fiver. It was a nice surprise - but I remain adamant that I will win the actual jackpot one day.

KC225 · 23/11/2018 23:36

I won 2,700 on the midweek lottery nearly 12 years ago with 5 numbers. I went to collect it from the post office round the corner from work. I was told to go to a counter with stern looking older Asian lady, it felt like I was in for a lecture but when she checked the ticket she smiled, she asked me if she could call her friend over, I said yes. They were so excited for me asking me what I was going to do with it.

meow1989 · 23/11/2018 23:38

I won £26 about 4 years ago and was super excited. I also won £4 and £2 on scratch cards last week and was also super excited 😅 I don't regularly play

showmethegin · 23/11/2018 23:48

My best friend from schools parents (when I was still at school, we were 15) won 4.4 million on the lottery. Broke up two days later, split the money and by all accounts are broke again now.

This was back in the day of good interest, they were getting something mad like £9,000 each a month in interest!

IsabelleSE19 · 23/11/2018 23:49

We got tickets left for us as a table gift at a friend's wedding and DH's ticket won just enough to pay for our own honeymoon a few months later. That was very handy.

Friend of DH's won several millions - he gave up work but his DW didn't as she's in a vocational job. They seem happy enough but I don't know them well enough to know for sure!

PickAChew · 23/11/2018 23:50

I'd have to buy a ticket, first.

PFB1 · 23/11/2018 23:56

@WesternOatman depression and anxiety are so debilitating. I've had my low points too so can relate to a degree. Please don't let some sheets of paper get in the way or your happiness. Try to find a sense of purpose again. There is so much good you could do in the world with those sorts of funds behind you. You need to find a new challenge/something which forces you to get out of bed in the morning. If that doesn't work, giving the money to charity seems like the best move. You deserve to be happy Thanks

musicalmama · 23/11/2018 23:57

We won about a grand a few years ago at Xmas time. Bought an iPad then the rest just went on bills.

Annandale · 23/11/2018 23:57

I've never won anything but xh's parents were in a big syndicate that had 6 numbers. They bought their dream caravan and gave each of their kids £1000 or something like that - embarrassing that I can't remember Blush I hate caravans but it really was lovely and they had a great time in it. Seemed like the perfect outcome. I can well imagine that if I won a big amount it could ruin my life - I don't think I could make myself work if I didn't have to but I'd lose purpose pretty rapidly without the daily grind.

Housingcraze · 24/11/2018 00:00

1k but gave it to someone to save their arses and prevents family suffering more

mostdays · 24/11/2018 00:32

We won just over £100 once, £80 another time. I seem to win a lot of free lucky dips when I play online.

I've worked out the perfect amount for me to win would be about £5m. I'd hate to win a really huge jackpot, it's a scary thought.

SausageSimon · 24/11/2018 00:35

I've never won anything decent, but I play the postcode lottery and win a tenner a few times a year. Forever dreaming of one of those big cheques though!

My dream amount to win would be £250k but even £100k would absolutely change my life. I wouldn't like a massive amount just enough to live comfortably but remain 'normal'

sunshineandshowers21 · 24/11/2018 00:39

i’ve won a few £350 and £700 prizes on the irish lottery, but only ever won £10 on the regular lottery. my partner actually won £7000 on wednesday on the irish lottery! i also know a few other people that have regular wins on the irish.
