And if you have what was the first thing you spent it on?

Assholeeeeness · 23/11/2018 22:13

My elderly neighbours won 2 million about 9 years ago still stay in the same house have gave all the family money and donated a good bit to charities hasn’t changed them much tbh x

Florries · 23/11/2018 22:15

Not me but a friend won about 5k on the Irish lottery. She regularly wins £2-£10 on it. Apprently the odds are better.

I always say how I wish I'd win the lottery but I don't actually play...

Poisongirl81 · 23/11/2018 22:16

That's sad oatman 😔 money can't buy happiness, I hope you are ok x

SayNoToCarrots · 23/11/2018 22:19

I won £172 once. I always play online so counted up my emails confirming tickets. I've spent at least £300. 😔

Dowser · 23/11/2018 22:22

About 5 weeks in I won about £70 .
That was for 4 numbers
I thought this wasn’t going to be a regular occurrence

It wasn’t
A few tenners later and I don’t bother.

WineAndTiramisu · 23/11/2018 22:34

My parents won about 10k once and gave it to charity. I once won about £70 years ago, think I spent it on holiday!

That is sad @WesternOatman, I always assume that winning that much would be fantastic - you could make your friends and families lives so much better, have security, not have to work etc. Do you have any inkling of what has gone wrong?

LondonLassInTheCountry · 23/11/2018 22:37

Won £1000 at bingo.
My sister and aunt was with me so we split it. £333 each. I spent it on bills

I would treat my nan...
Then i would pay off pills and take my partner away, its been a real tough two years and going to get much tougher.

OldBrownShoe · 23/11/2018 22:40

I won just over £1000 a few years back for 5 numbers.

I re-wallpapered the kids rooms and bought them a new bed and mattress each, and I bought myself a tumble dryer

Clearthinking · 23/11/2018 22:42

Cousin won 250000 about 4 years ago, couple of cars and mortgage paid, lovely wedding now all gone!

Clearthinking · 23/11/2018 22:42

250,000. That will annoy me if I didn't correct it

MorrisZapp · 23/11/2018 22:43

I won about a hundred quid on a scratchcard. It was one of those ones with multiple games on it, and I just kept winning! It was an amazing feeling.

Think I'll cancel my direct debit though. I never win and I'd rather just buy tickets when the mood takes me.

BorisAndDoris · 23/11/2018 22:44

About 10 years ago DH formed a Hotpicks syndicate at work and they won just under £8K 3 weeks before Christmas. A couple of the syndicate hadn't paid for their tickets yet and no one knew DH had even bought the tickets but he still told all 6 ladies straight away.

The nearest Lottery Post Office was almost an hour's drive away and only open until lunch leaving DH no way of getting the money until the following Saturday without taking a whole morning off work (and getting docked for it) None of the other's would go (and lose wages) but they hounded him relentlessly as if accusing him of stiffing them. They wanted the £1100 in cash so were really pissed he gave them cheque each and only after the lottery cheque cashed. He never played with them again and they never won again.

He and I have won two £800 3 number Hotpicks in the last few years. That was nice.

theycallmebabydriver · 23/11/2018 22:46

My parents won a few thousand on the pools once and spent it having a patio installed. To me, this story encapsulates the 1980s

WesternOatman · 23/11/2018 22:46

What went wrong was that I was an introvert to start with but was forced to mingle as I had to work. One I no longer needed to work I became a full time recluse. I saw nobody for weeks on end. Just spent all my time isolated in my own little world. All motivation was gone, I no longer had a reason to even get out of bed. I don’t expect anyone to feel sorry for me but honestly, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

TonsilTits · 23/11/2018 22:48

DH's friend won 5 figures. The DW got a new car, clothes, they had a family holiday. The DH got to decorate the garden however he saw fit. He chose to do an enormous mural dedicated to his football team Grin

BackforGood · 23/11/2018 22:51

I think the massive amounts on the Euromillions are ludicrous. Ordinary folk just can't imagine those sorts of figures.

I'd do the lottery if there were a much more realistic chance of actually winning something that could make a real difference.
Imagine how nice it would be for ordinary folk to win £100 000, and actually have a real chance of winning it.
If I ran the lottery, I'd have one prize of £1million and several of £100 000 (and some £5K ones) and not have any of the ludicrous amounts. Smile

TheMythicalChicken · 23/11/2018 22:53

So sorry to hear that Oatman. Have you thought about doing something worthwhile with the money, like building a school in the developing world? It might help you to get out of your shell.

Notso · 23/11/2018 22:53

theycallmebabydriver
Grin

I won a tenner once and several free goes. I know a family who won about £80,000 and another who won just under 5 million.

LondonLassInTheCountry · 23/11/2018 22:56

Oatman
Theres so many small charities that could benefit from a very small amount.

A homeless charity or a charity where you could buy children christmas presents maybe.

notapizzaeater · 23/11/2018 22:56

Oatman could you not still go to work without letting in about the money. Sometimes you loose your identity if you don't work 😢

PinkFluffyFairy · 23/11/2018 22:57

If it's making u that unhappy oats, give it to charity.

Armchairanarchist · 23/11/2018 22:59

A friend won £1 million on the national lottery raffle thing last Christmas. She bought a sports car. MIL won the postcode lottery. I assume she's saved it but she's a tightarse anyway.

imboredtonight · 23/11/2018 23:00

We don't know if oatman still has the money...

I know nothing about having that kind of money but I do know about depression... she may be unable to work currently even if she wanted to

thenightsky · 23/11/2018 23:00

Got 5 numbers. If only my birthday had been 3 days earlier I'd have had 6.

5 got me £700 and paid for one weeks' holiday.

londonrach · 23/11/2018 23:01

Won another lottery ticket which won another lottery ticket which won nothing. Did win £25 once. Spent it on lunch out with dh. Any do it vvvv randomly. Cant remember last time i did it.
